Killing People

Killing people is wrong. Lol. Many games have lots of people that are enemies, Zelda however likes to make sure every enemy is a monster, mostly. So heres a random question. Should a future Zelda game add more "human" fights? I personally love fighting Ganondorf, and I enjoyed fighting the Gerudo in OoT/MM almost more.

Course I'm not talking like the GTA's killing by-passers type thing or anything like that, lol. And I'd rather believe humans are more likely to be KOed rather than killed in a Zelda game (with the exception of G-dorf)

Sooo, yeah. When I played A Link to the Past I was always persuaded that the soldiers that chased Link around were real people...since most castles are run by real people. =\ others like to make me think otherwise...but...basically I wanna fight some more people who have real personalities and real motives and blah. What's your take?

(I made this same exact thread on the IGN boards. )

Re: Killing People

Well the closest we've gotten to fighting "humans" are the darknuts from TP I suppose. I wouldn't mind fighting regular humans/soldiers or anything but somehow seeing them explode would be really awkward compared to lets say a moblin. Maybe have them just faint like the Gerudo, or flee.

Re: Killing People

Fighting more people like the Gerudos in OoT would be far more like a Zelda game, to be honest. I wouldn't want to kill anyone. That would just seem too morbid for this series.

Re: Killing People

To be honest I think the lack of human enemies is Nintendo's way of showing a world where good and evil are definately defined and are immediately recognizable. It's refreshing to be able to see a creature and easily being able to say "that's evil".
But maybe I'm overthinking things.

Anyway, I think that for Link to kill humans in a 3D game the story would have to be appropriate and the deaths should be seen as necessary.

EDIT:Wait, I just realized. Doesn't Link kill soldiers in ALttP?

Re: Killing People

Yeah, Zelda has always shown a huge gap between good and evil.

But everytime they mix it up, like for instance Midna and the Twili...who I initially thought were all evil actually turn out to be nice.

Or in Link's Awakening where the whole time I was convinced that Link was helping to save Koholint and then I was harshly told otherwise.

Or the time in Majora's Mask when you enter the evil, life-consuming moon and find out that it's a beautiful place with children playing inside. The kids ask you questions like...
Quote:
The right thing...What is it?

I wonder...
If you do the right thing...
Does it really make...
everybody...happy?

Your true face...
What kind of...face is it?

I wonder...
The face under the mask...
Is that...your true face?
Closing the gap actually adds a lot more depth to the storyline and also makes the player question their own morals. I actually like it when Zelda games do that, and I think it should be expanded on.

Oh yeah, and Link does kill guards/soldiers in ALttP. 'Twas rather fun.

Re: Killing People

I definately agree. I would like more depth as well. However I was just commenting on the fact that in the past humans were good and several races were bad.

The mixing of good and evil has always given an interesting storyline (Starwars, Harry Potter, Lost...). That's why I see Dark Link as such an interesting character with so much untapped potential.

Well, I guess we'll see in... a year and a half?

Re: Killing People

Fighting a human mini-boss sort of thing would be awesome. I'd really enjoy it.
Gerudo fights were extremely fun during the N64 days and it'd definitely work in these Wii days.

Lol, yeah I thought the same. But everytime I got a game over from one of the soldiers (which was often) I'd end up going back for some vengence.

Speaking of which...Four Swords Adventure had a CRAP load of soldiers. Sometimes armies would appear outta no where to kill you. O_o How could I forget about that!

After you killed the soldiers you'd be sucked into the dark world and then had to kill the already dead sodiers that truned into stalfos! And then after that a ghost of a Knight of Hyrule would tell you how Ganon corrupted everyone. Seems a bit morbid for such a color-coated game...a realistic Zelda probably wouldn't go that far. xD

Re: Killing People

It's good vs. evil. You gotta kill, plus its fictional creatures you are killing, and you shouldn't take it too seriously. If you want peace you better prepare for war. Besides, its not as bad as GTA.

And there is nothing wrong with that. It's the manner in which they die that gives it a rating, not the dying itself. Every game has something that "dies". If the guy gets squished and puffs into oblivion, that's not very violent at all and most Zelda guys are like that. Now, if he gets stabbed with blood and guts squirting out from every opening.... yah.... that should be M.

Re: Killing People

I'd like a bit of blood, but not like Fallout 3 or No More Heroes. Just enough blood for a T-rating. Anyway, I think the bodies should either fade into nothing, or just stay there.

A little blood doesn't bother me either, and I'm all for bodies disappearing. Dead bodies can tip the mature scale.

Re: Killing People

I guess it wouldn't matter actually, killing people is just like killing creatures. If you knew that person killed your family and an entire village would you still not kill him? Its all just fictional characters, I'd say if you start feeling guilty, your getting too attached.

This.

I say let's not kill to many humans. And if we do, no blood and gore... it's ZELDA.
