Online Petitions
Today I was thinking of something. Obviously, there are many of us here on the net who want certain things in a Zelda game, and there are some ideas that almost everybody would agree one (harder difficulty/difficulty settings, for example). So I was thinking, if ever we were to start an online petition for a certain idea, would it ever reach Nintendo, or would it fail? And if it does reach Nintendo, would they listen?
I'm honestly unsure about this. If the petition was big enough then it could have a chance of reaching them, but Nintendo's Japanese-based, and they obviously have a casual mentality going on. So, what do you think? |

Worth a try, I suppose. We haven't seen anything yet.

Re: Online Petitions
Online petitions never work, it's pointless to bother imo.

Re: Online Petitions
Someone needs to find Miyamoto and talk some sense into him. Zelda needs some more difficulty/difficulty settings or some other innovative method to challenge both casual and hardcore player. Its just been getting easier and easier since MM in my opinion.

Re: Online Petitions
worth a shot imo. Petitions can work...Jerico, Serenity, etc. for TV, and I'd bet online blogs, posts and petitions had a hand in "designing" TP--perhaps to the point of having TP pander to OoT fans and online groups, as some have mentioned (complained about).
I'd sign. |

Re: Online Petitions
Miyamoto's already listened to us. We're not getting a difficulty setting option. But the new Patent will almost undoubtably be in Wii Zelda. Allowing Nintendo do make the game as hard as it can be while still making sure no casual gamer gives up.

The only thing that scares me now is the Digest system that allows anyone to watch the entire game's gameplay/all scenes without doing crap. On the day of Wii Zelda's release someone will spoil the ending or something. It's like reading the last chapter of a book. Yuck. (Unless I'm not understanding this concept) What excites me is the scene selection thing. I'd love to go back to a certain spot of a Zelda game and do it over and over again. (Legend of OO) ![]()

Re: Online Petitions
I doubt a petition would work. I mean, we are gamers, they are developers, so naturally they know what would be better. If they do what they want, they will create a game they feel will do well (and make them the most money), whereas if they listen to fans they would be taking a risk.
Also, if they listen to the hardcore fans that want a harder game and such, they feel they would alienate new gamers, thus leaving the series in the hands of the more veteran players, and not gaining new fans, thus not getting as much money. I think if they really want to appeal to all gamers they have to do it in a smarter way. Maybe make console games difficult, and handheld ones a bit easier (though perhaps put a difficulty setting on those to not completely turn of hardcore gamers).

Re: Online Petitions
Do you remember the guy at the claw shot place in Hyrule city (been to long to recall it's name)? That was Tingle in a more mature setting. It's in an interview with the big man himself (I'd misspell his name). I think it was with IGN. They ask why he didn't put Tingle in, and he asks them to recall that guy.

Re: Online Petitions
I'd sign a petition depending on what it was for. It might be our only hope. I haven't been keeping up 100% with the video game world lately but it's look like Nintendo is completely oblivious to the fact that they're getting steamrolled financially and technologically by Microsoft.
Each time they put out a game about raising a baby, grooming a pony or release something like that new pulse calculating device, it's like they spit in the face of people who just want an honest-to-god Nintendo game. All these things are fine to put out as a way to rake in money for more ambitious projects, but it looks to me as if they have lost sight of such things. Although with the new Mario and Metroid games that are coming out perhaps they've heard our pleas after all, and I have my fingers crossed that they don't botch the next Zelda game in the name of a larger audience. I have a feeling they'll deliver the goods though... the most disappointed I've ever been by a Zelda game was the Wind Waker, and I still enjoyed it very much. As for this whole "bigger audience" ordeal and listening (or not) to fans, I think a consistent flow of good games would bring in just as much money as the tasteless glut of shovelware they've thrown at us since Wii's release. I know I'd be eagerly waiting in line for a decent Donkey Kong or a new Kirby if they ever decide to release one... just my two cents. End rant! ![]() |

Re: Online Petitions
I'd capture Miyamoto and tatoo what I want for Zelda on his back... yes I would. That would make him do it.
But basically the next Zelda must have this: -Hard difficulty that challenges us - forget about casual gamers they have enough games. -Smooth storyline revised by good storywriters that focuses on all characters equally -New "imaginative" artists working on the monsters -Less weapons and more useful ones -Original soundtracks -1:1 battles with MotionPlus This is pretty much what Zelda needs right now. No matter what. Before anything else.
