Future charcters? Former characters?

Of course we know that Link will meet new characters along his great adventures, but what would happen if he met his former friends again or how would the new characters help Link?
new and old collide??
weird or cool?
How will this affect the series?

Umm it depends on where in the Zelda timeline is set but I think it would be cool to meet some people you've met before but older. I'b like to see some poor beggar with a ferret with a shining personality.
