A twist on the Gerudo Desert

Do you think that in a future Zelda Game, that the Gerudo Desert could be an ice wasteland, like Antarctica, which is also considerd a desert. The Gerudo Desert is always a clichéd sand deset, why not an ice one?

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

It wouldn't fit well. The Gerudo are known for skimpy clothing, Liama goddesses, etc.
They have adapted to the sand desert, so their land shall always be a sand desert. If they weren't their, and there was no proof of them ever existing, it might be something else, but as long as the Gerudo are there, it shall be a sand desert

Yeah, the Gerudo desert should be sand. I'm all up for an ice wasteland too, however.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

The Gerudo Desert is a warm place. It would require a drastic climate change to make it an ice desert. Hyrule is capable of some pretty unrealistic stuff when it comes to environment, but freezing a place like the desert would be quite an accomplisment even for them.

I like winter, so I'm all for more ice and snow themed areas in games. But the Gerudo Desert should be what it is, a sand desert, and let the ice be its own area somewhere else, like Snowpeak. Though an ice desert instead of a snowy mountain... is actually sounding pretty cool.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

Actually, I wouldn't mind a place in Zelda reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau.

Obviously, this would be an area entirely different from the Gerudo Valley.

Why would you want the gerudo's to bundle up and wear big bulky snow suits?

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

I don't think theres any need to completely get rid of the Gerudo Desert and replace it with an ice wasteland. There could easily be an ice wasteland or something similar in a seperate place in Hyrule.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

The Gerudo Desert should stay as it is, although an arctic area sounds interesting. It could be combined with Snowpeak for example, that it may be like an area before reaching Snowpeak.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

Antarctica is considered a desert because of its lack of water. Just because both Antarctica and the Gerudo Desert are both deserts, doesn't mean it would be a good idea to completely change the climate of what is already a good place with plenty more potential into an ice area which we already have (snowpeak)

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

A frozen wasteland Gerudo Desert would be cool, but only in a game where there's some kind of weather disaster.

Then, you could have all sorts of crazy stuff, like Death Mountain being inundated with water, or Hyrule Field becoming a swamp, and the forest being perpetually on fire, or something.

That's the point. That's snow/ice. It isn't a desert, it has precipitation. What I mean is it never rains or snows. Not like snowpeak, but an actual wasteland.

And I agree now that Gerudo Desert should stay the same. But I really like the idea of an ice desert. Any idea's for good names?

If they were to make an Ice Area, It should be Death Mountain, or something related to the Gorons.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

There's already a race associated with ice and snow - the Anouki. I'm not sure whether or not I want them to return, however.

The Gorons did live in a snowy environment in Majora's Mask. However, they did not take naturally to it at all, since it was a particularly cold snap that they were entirely unaccustomed to - they possibly would have all died if Link had not defeated the boss of Snowhead (disregarding the impending doom brought on by the moon, of course).

Once again, snow plays a role. And also, why does there have to be an exsisting race living there? Why not our own new one? They'd have to be pretty hardy to liveout there though, in fact, maybe they can only manage to survive on the outskirts. The temple in the middle will prove a challenge and a half, and bring Link to the brink of death. Why ot make it, there is only a very specific path to follow, and if you wander off, the wilderness will kill you.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

The mountain idea is wearing thin I agree. How about glacier/tundra type environments? I would love to see a dungeon floating in the Aurora. =D

I think the Gerudo Desert could be expanded on somehow. Maybe the Gerudo could move out of the fortress and have a town in the desert, possibly inspired by Arabic/Indian buildings?

I was coming up with an idea for a ice race, one inspired by the Yuki Onna (snow women) of Japanese folk tales. I had the idea that they had bloodless white skin and deep black hair, as well as blood red lips. They wear white robes and thrive in extremely low climates, but high tempetures will cause them to become ill/die.

Re: A twist on the Gerudo Desert

if you think about it, why shouldn't the gerudo desert stretch far to the north of hyrule as well as west. the middle east basically blends into the tundra of siberia and kazahkstan to form one giant desert in the middle of eurasia
ive alwasy thought of the map we see as being part of a mauch larger continent, so why shouldn't the gerudo desert continue north untill it turns into frozen tundra

on a side note, i'd like to see a "zelda" game set entirely in the gerudo regions (it would obviously have to be expanded on) featuring either a young ganondorf, or a later 'only gerudo male'

Sounds like the description of an enemy to me.
