I'd say the wii could do it if it used pre-rendered environments.

I really don't think Nintendo is going to remake games in that sense. Super Mario 64 DS was a little different because you could be different characters and other features. But it wasn't a remake of what it looked like, so really there shouldn't be much hope for games like that.

The Wii vs "Next-Gen" discussion is a bit silly IMHO.

I don't think anyone is objecting the fact that Wii graphics don't come close to xbox360 and ps3 graphics, but Wii graphics don't suck. Unfortunately a lot of people underestimate the Wii's capabilities due to crappy 3rd party games (Not you, The Conduit. Not you ) that want to make a quick buck by adding shake-controls to every action.

Nintendo proves that Wii is a graphics powerhouse, if used right, with Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3. I am sure that Wii Zelda will blow everybody's mind as well. Deadly Creatures looks very good as well and we have The Conduit on its way which looks like a very serious title.

So I don't understand why this discussion comes up all the time? Everyone knows that the Wii can't produce graphics that match the xbox360 and/or ps3, it has been a fact since day one. Anyone who thinks differently seriously needs to read up on the specs for the three consoles.

Also, there's no question that the Wii could produce something like in the OP. We've seen all kinds of titles on the Wii with awesome ideas and worlds, why wouldn't it be capable of rendering a relatively simple top-down world with nice textures and some effects? Again, silly.

I would love the next console Zelda to be like this, Senap, and I do know the technical specs. It just wouldn't look like the picture on modern televisions, due to the 480p predicament.
As a pro Wii argument, Castlevania: SotN was done on the PS1, which had less than a third of the Wii's RAM and processing power, and it still looks beautiful today.

Think about this: Resident Evil 4 had amazing graphics, and was almost on par with early 360 games. It was only behind those because of the resolution restraint. Guess what system it was for? Gamecube.

Now, RE4 used fully fledged 3d graphics, and gorgeous textures, without a hint of lag on a last gen system. If that's the case, then a 2.5d ALTTP remake imitating the caliber of the fan art in the OP can be easily achieved on the Wii.

You're right. The picture wouldn't be sharp and smooth like in HD games

The picture doesnot need to be in HD. Its cartoony, not realistic. And the rain effect would look gorgeous on 480p.

Compared to what is capable today, no it wouldn't. Because of the resolution of the Wii, the Image would be stretched across your television, making it much blurrier.

I don't know about you, but TP in widescreen looks perfectly fine to me on sub 40" screens. It's not much to look at compared to native HD, but unless you have some cheapo TV, it shouldn't be too blurry or pixelated.

Yeah, but once you have played a game in full 1080p, nothing compares.

Actually, if they made something for the new handheld system that is coming*, It would be a killer app.

*the DSi is basically the DS version of the Gameboy Color. Just lke the color, it has improved hardware, but not much else.

As much as I LOVE the idea of having a Link to the Past remade, I really would hope it would be on the DS and have Link's Oracle series design.

Lol, it's not, it's Links house in ALttP...

Now I haven't played TMC but besides that the scenery is a 1:1 copy of aLttP the fact that it rains speaks for the latter as well.

I've seen MSG4 and various xbox games on HD TVs of various sizes and I must say, it looks good. I never got the "OMGz I CAN NEVERZ LOOKZ AT LOW-REZ TV AGAINZ" feeling that a lot of HD-fans speak of though.

I mean come on, if everyone were to think like that, no one would play handheld games on DS or PSP since the graphics aren't über. Games come out for the DS and PSP that aren't even close to Wii graphics and they can still be beautiful. Same with the Wii. Wii is capable of producing beautiful graphics, even without the almighty HD resolution.

It just wouldn't look as good as it could on a graphically modern console, and the picture in the OP is in 720, unavailable on the Wii.

There is an interview somewhere where Aonuma admits he'd love to remake his favorite Zelda game: ALttP.

It's not impossible, and it would be kinda sweet if it were made with the same visuals as in that fanart (and yes I know the fanart is for TMC)
