I like designing games, and I like coming up with new game mechanics, and Zelda is my favorite series. >_> So, I might make up a bunch of these topics.
This one fits in with a Zelda game I came up with. The game is sort of a dungeon crawl. There are, according to my text document, uh, 19 dungeons (yeah), and 10 mini-dungeons (Ice Cavern-esque dungeons), and 1 optional dungeon. >____>
Uh, so, this game is very structured, and so is this item system.
So, let's imagine that you have 10 main items at the top of your screen:
Tunic
Shield
Boots
Bow
Boomerang
Hookshot
Holy Cane
Bombs
Hammer
When you click on them, a Triforce appears around the item. Each item has a Courage form, a Wisdom form, and a Power form.
Now, there are 9 elemental essences, 3 to Triforce form. The Courage ones are Lightning, Forest, and Fire. The Wisdom ones are Water, Earth, and Wind. The Power ones are Light, Shadow, and Spirit.
So, let's put it like this: the Tunic has a Courage form, from the Fire Essence, a Wisdom form, from the Water Essence, and a Power form, from the Shadow Essence. The Fire Tunic does what the Goron Tunic does in
OoT. The Water Tunic does what the Zora Tunic does in
OoT. The Shadow Tunic makes Link transparent and invulnerable to physical attacks.
Each item can be in one of the three forms at any time. So, for example, all of your items can be in Power form at once if you want.
This way, there are 30 (yes), 30 items. In fact, there are actually 36 items, as the Sword would be able to weld with any essence it wants.
Boots Boots are pretty cool. Link can get upgrade his Boots to L-2 for a short while at a shoe shiner's, which will blind enemies when they see how shiny his boots are
C - Pegasus Boots: Forest
W - Heavy Boots: Earth
- - -Iron Boots
P - Hover Boots: Shadow
Shield I think you should be able to "use" the shield again. He gets three levels of Shields: Wooden, Iron, and Steel.
C - Thunder Shield: Lightning
- - -Can hold Electric Charges
W - Wind Shield: Wind
- - -Can reverse wind directions in the area
P - Mirror Shield: Light
Clothes Link actually obtains the Hero's Tunic in the 8th dungeon, sort of as proof that he's the hero
C - Flame Tunic: Fire
W - Water Tunic: Water
P - Shadow Tunic: Shadow
- - -Makes Link transparent
Bombs The bombs in this game would be more or less like grenades, to explain how Link can hold so many, and to make them more convenient for him.
C - Climbing Bombs: Forest
W - Water Bombs: Water
P - Blinding Bombs: Light
- - -Blows up into a blinding light, illuminating a room for a long while, and blinding enemies. Kind of like a supercharged Deku Nut.
Bow Still an important item, Link should be able to get a HawkEye sniper thing again
C - Fire Bow: Fire
- - -This makes more sense than "Fire Arrows." The Arrow is shot from a Bow that enchants the Arrows.
W - Ice Bow: Water
- - -See above.
P - Light Bow: Light
Boomerang Can target up to 4 objects at a time. There has to be a way to make the Boomerang more useable in 3D games, though.
C - Double Boomerang: Forest
- - -Kinda like the Zora Boomerangs, doubles the number of objects targetable
W - Gale Boomerang: Wind
P - Ghostly Boomerang: Spirit
- - -A Boomerang that can track invisible targets
Hookshot Still a useful item, but it should be a cross between the Grappling Hook and Hookshot. I'd imagine Link grappling and swinging sort of like Samus.
C - Electro Shot: Lightning
- - -Can attach to stuff and carry a charge through it
W - Switch Shot: Wind
P - Transparent Shot: Shadow
- - -A Hookshot that goes through walls, can pull Link through....
Hammer The Hammer needs to be a bit more useful, maybe it should be able to make temporary craters and I dunno
C - Bombos Hammer: Fire
- - -Bombos spell!
W - Quake Hammer: Earth
- - -Quake spell!
P - Ether Hammer: Shadow
- - -Ether spell!
Holy Cane An ancient rod said to have been used by an ancient sage. Link uses it in an ingenious way; as a pole vaulting rod.
C - Lightning Rod: Lightning
- - -Can redirect Lightning towards Link...or towards something that can hold charges.
W - Creation Cane: Earth
- - -Creates these little statues
P - Control Cane: Spirit
- - -Controls statues and stuff
Sword Link gains a L-1 Wooden Sword, L-2 Iron Sword, L-0 Rusted Sword, L-3 Magic Sword, and L-4 Master Sword by the end of the game. Link can only transform his Magic Sword/Master Sword with elements, and the sword has access to all elements.
C - Burning Sword: Fire
- - -The sword's blade becomes red hot, doing extra damage to things weak to fire. It also burns stuff, but causes an explosion if electricity hits Link.
C - Electrical Sword: Lightning
- - -Electrifies your sword, more damage to weak against electricity, but does no damage to earth and hurts Link if used against fire
C -Vine Sword: Forest
- - -Can absorb various elemental attacks to make it stronger, but does no damage to armored foes
W - Earth Blade: Earth
- - -A heavy sword that requires two hands to wield, swings slowly, and swings even more slowly in bad weather.
W - Wind Blade: Wind
- - -Swings somewhat slowly, but buffets enemies by the wind, but makes plants and fires stronger
W - Water Blade: Water
- - -Hits fire enemies hard, but helps plant enemies
P - Spirit Blade: Spirit
- - -Not very powerful against living enemies, but has more reach and does more damage to spirits
P - Shadow Sword :Shadow
- - -A shadow envelopes the sword, giving it more reach and power, more damage to light-based enemies, but takes Link's health away
P - Light Sword: Light
- - -The sword does more damage to undead enemies, glows golden, and has no real drawbacks
FIRST FEW DUNGEONS:
This is mostly linear, and Link goes through each dungeon one after each other. This is about 25 hours of gameplay right here. In fact, this could make a game all by itself, but eh.
Mini-Dungeon 1: Bulblin Forward Camp
- - -Bulblins are attacking Link's village. Link joins a contingent of militia with his Clothes, Boots, and a Sling to attack their forward camp. Link gets in and fights a young, Bulblin Ammo Boy. After the militia defeat the Bulblins here, the camp can still be entered, but is empty.
- - -Dungeon Item: Wooden Shield
Dungeon 1: Bulblin Camp
- - -The contingent attack the Bulblin Camp, which is the first dungeon. The Bulblin Camp is fairly well fortified, and the "walls" of the camp are made up of tents, random barrels of supplies, etc. Basically, imagine an expanded version of the Bulblin Camp in Hyrule Castle in
TP. Link fights the Ammo Boy from before in a rematch, and then sneaks into the Leader's Tent, and defeats him.
- - -Mini-Boss: Ammo Boy Rematch
- - -Dungeon Item: Wooden Sword
- - -Boss: Bulblin Commander
- - -Prize: Heart Container

There are many pillars coming up on the top of the ravine, and Link must engage an especially skilled Bulblin Archer, Sling vs Bow at differing points on the Ravine. After beating the Bulblin, he gets the Bow, and must face a classic Zelda boss on a massive pillar in between the Ravine; Lanmolas.

- - -A bunch of Knights have decided to hold a bunch of important people hostage at Hyrule's Coliseum. They take hostages, and threaten to kill the hostages and release a King Dodongo on the population, unless they get the body of the Hero, and a million Rupees. In short, this is a sneaking dungeon, and a parody of Metal Gear Solid. Link finds an ancient and holy rod and uses it to polevault instead of respecting it. He fights the lead assassin on top of the dead King Dodongo carcass at the end of the dungeon.
- - -Dungeon Item: Holy Cane

- - -Dungeon Item: Hero's Tunic
