Lightbulb Difficulty modes. (hard mode, easy mode, and normal mode.)

Do you think that there should be levels of difficulty that you can select before you start your game?

I say yes. Simply becuase TP and WW were too easy in some areas, (combat, and in TPs case puzzles). It would solve the problems of both the casual and hardcore gamers. The Casuals could pick the easy setting where for example, enemies take less hits to kill; while the Core gamers could pick the hard mode.

In the hard mode you magic meter uses more energy. Arrows, bombs, and hearts are harder to find. Bosses and enemies deal more damage and are harder to kill.

But what do you think?

Yes.

Tp, for example, was too easy. And since they are supposed to appeal to the casuals too, Nintendo can't make the games harder.

In Master Quest, Nintendo made OoT a lot harder, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to add difficulty levels to Zelda. However, it might make Zelda games less traditional to gamers.

I figure that the old games should have difficulty levels because they are way too hard. I have died many times on the original LoZ, but I only have died a few times in OoT.

Difficulty levels would be awesome, and easy to pull off with minor tweaks. Simple things like enemies doing more damage and being more aggressive, fewer items dropped after kills or cutting grass, higher prices in shops, and maybe some other things.

You could have easy, normal, or hard. Or you could rename them farm boy, hero, and legend.

This. I don't think I EVER got down to three hearts in TP (much less, a game over). The bosses and the Darknuts didn't do enough damage for me to worry about.

I think they should start the game of easy and slowly get harder until its really really hard.

I agree, I think Zelda games need difficulty levels. Easier levels for casual/beginning gamers, and higher difficulty levels for more hardcore gamers (enemies are more difficult to defeat, dungeons are redesigned, puzzles are harder, kinda like a second quest, except the second quest would be even more difficult).

Master Quest feature is pretty much what all Zelda games need. You got your regular all around Zelda difficulty. Then you have your Master Quest difficulty which would make things more difficult for the more experienced players. It's pretty much a perfect match.

Either difficulty levels or a 2nd quest/Master quest. If it has a 2nd quest, make it like the original LoZ 2nd quest where its harder and new puzzles, not that stupid WW 2nd quest with little changed.

Uh, second/master quest is basically just an unlockable (very) hard difficulty.

And personally, I don't like unlockable difficulty levels. As additional content it's fine, but rather let me choose the hard mode straight from the start, instead of having to beat the (easy) game first.
There can be a Second Quest of Challenge and Stuff, but it should coexist with the difficulty levels.

I have no massive grudge against difficulty levels, but I do think that it's unlikely Nintendo will implement them.

Like I've said twice before, Nintendo, with their Wii and DS, Nintendo have stated that they want to "break down the mental barrier between non-gamers and gamers". With difficulty levels, this mental barrier is reinforced. With difficulty levels, you're basically saying: "All casuals go WAAAY over there, and you hardcore gamers come over here." MASSIVE MENTAL BARRIER ALERT!!!

I'd rather like if they acknowledged that the different groups of players with different skills do exist, and harcore gamers maybe wont enjoy games like Wii Music, heh.

I agree. The fact is that you can't please everyone with just one difficulty. I see nothing wrong with difficulty settings, and I'd rather them be available from the start, rather than beating easy before hard, or naming your character a certain name in order to do it faster.

The problem with you people (Chad, Otuz) is that you think Casual gamers aren't capable of learning how to play a game, especially considering that Zelda games always have reasonably intuitive controls. Making a game appeal to the casuals is not merely "making it easier". There are other ways to make something appealing to the mainstream.

The problem with Nintendo is that they don't think so either. They make their games too easy even though the controls have a small learning curve.

Hey, all I know is that newer games are easier than older games. And it's not just that I've been getting better at playing Zeldas. That can easily be fixed with difficulty settings.
