Who wants Magic back?

What happened to magic?

In AoL, Link could use magic for everything; it could give him better defense, let him fly, turn enemies into blobs, all sorts of things. In ALttP Link could cause earthquakes, turn invisible and create blocks of magic. In OoT and MM, there was Din's Fire and Nayru's Love. In WW, there were magic arrows and the Mage Armor. But after WW, the magic meter disappeared.

I would like to be able to do magic in the next Zelda game, with a magic meter. Who thinks that magic should be brought back, and what new things could be done with it?

Or do you think that the magic system is outdated, and shouldn't return?

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Absolutely. It'd add a nice bit of magic to basic gameplay, hoho!

I love Kitty Magic

Oh, wrong thing...
Yah I'd like magic to return. It seems there was supposed to be magic in TP but it got scrapped out at the last minute.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

yeah, they removed the magic meter in TP. In the PAL version of TP for wii you can see the magic meter on a pic (on the package)

There are two timelines(Child timeline and adult timeline) and one extra parallel world(as we see in LA(Koholint),MM(Termina) and PH(Oshus world). It's possible to get (e.g.) from the Child Timeline to Adult timeline by passing another portal that leads to whatever(LoZ for example).

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Sure, magic could come back if they bring useful spells into the game.It doesn't really bother me too much, though.

I'd like to see magic back. As long as it doesn't have ridiculously short time spans.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Since most of us seem like we want magic back, how much do you think there should be in the next Zelda game? Should it just be magic arrows and a few spells, or a whole bunch of spells you always need to use, like in AoL?

How are some other ways magic could be used ? (Spells, weapons, etc.) Brainstorm and share a few ideas.

For example, I think it would be cool to have an optional sword that is very powerful, but uses up magic with every swing. Or perhaps a spell that can allow Link to shoot a slow-moving ball of energy that is stronger than a bow.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

I think TP was perfectly fine without magic. I didn't notice its absence really at all. I actually liked how it managed to change the formula a little for the 3-D games.

But I would like to see SPELLS again & maybe some new ones, not just the same old uses of magic, like the special arrows, spin attacks, & etc. I liked how MM made magic more practical, like when each form of Link had its own, practical use of magic: regular Link's spin attack, Deku's bubble, Goron's rolling, Zora's electric shield, & Fierce Deity's sword beams. You could rely on these skills throughout the game rather than in limited cases like the magic arrows or the Lens of Truth so I'd like to see magical skills more like those in future games.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Magic, yes. But only in sense of ALttP.

ALttP required a heck of a lot of magic, where sometimes you would be forced to go into a dungeon with a green potion. I liked how 'difficult' it was to conserve your magic, unlike OoT and TWW where you lose little magic from using something and where you can find potions laying around almost anywhere.

I want magic back. It makes sense to add more things to Zelda, but not to take away from it. TP should've had magic.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Magic should definitely make a comeback in the next Zelda; there just hasn't been enough use of magic imo.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

It should be brought back, but I think the whole spell system needs to be redone. They should have spells that you use in conjunction with normal weapons, not instead of. No more insanly overpowered spells like Din's Fire and Nayru's love that discourage using weapons. They could maybe have a "magic button" that uses magic to temporarely enhance whatever you're doing when you press it. If your currently jumping, you will be able to glide temporarely. if your swinging your sword, it lites the sword aflame. If your swimming, you'll temporarely be able to breath underwater. Etc.

Of coarse, you would still have fire, ice, and light arrows, and a few newer stuff, but I don't want magic that discourages weapon use, but encourages you to use weapons in new ways.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

Yes magic should be brought back.

but I hope that if they do bring it back it doesn't take over. what i mean by that is that you still have to rely on your sword and all your other tools, so magic would be more of a side ability.

Re: Who wants Magic back?

This might be a bit radical, but how about have magic required ridiculously frequently, but slowly recharging? That way, you won't have to refill during non-fights and you also wouldn't be able to recover quickly during fights.
