"The Quantum3 engine"

Now I'm not much of a technophile, but I've red stuff about this quantum3 engine and how it is supposedly one of the most powerful in the industry. They're already using it for the upcoming Wii game, The Conduit. Supposedly, it is able to rival PS3 and 360 visuals (but I'm guessing that they're only talking about Standard Definition TVs, which the majority of the population have)


And it got me thinking: What if they used this for the next Wii Zelda?

To my eyes it doesn't look much diffrent than a really good original xbox or PS2 game. Maybe if I saw more than just a bunch of stuff sitting on pedastals I might change my mind ex. a person running through a forest or something. Anyway, I doubt it can match PS3/360, but it defintly shows promise.

Ahh, but you're comparing it to graphics on another console. Since the thread is about using this engine for Zelda Wii, try comparing it with other Wii games and then tell me what you think.

Its better than most Wii games (which isn't saying much), and is about on par with TP and Metroid Prime 3. But like I said, I need to see the game in motion handleing complex things before I pass final judgement.

Are you kidding? TP was a Gamecube game!!!

I also remember something in the video about all of the things in the video done "before rendering or post-effects" or something, if that helps at all.

And it was just a demo, so the real thing ought to be better.

It has the graphical prowess of an early 360 game, I'd say.

Mix those engine capabilities with the artistic variety of Zelda and you've got an absolute winner.

The only Wii games, in my opinion, that look as good as this, are Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3.

The first two don't look much diffrent than Halo 2's grafics, and the third looks like an early 360 game. Still not deeply impressive, but better than 90% of wii games.

The easiest way to argue that they should use this engine is when Conduit comes out and people can see it in motion. The game looks amazing for a wii game, and better then prime 3 IMO, yet im sure i'll win the power ball before nintendo uses a third party developed engine for a first party game.

I... actually don't care, really. TP looked good enough as far as graphics go, a little polish on that will be good enough, for sure.

My biggest issue with Zelda is the difficulty level.

yeah like i said those graphics really aren't impressive compared to other consoles and apparently thats supposed to rival that of the 360 i highly doubt it

Hmm... Is this a bad thing? Considering that the Quantum3 engine is apparently one of the most powerful graphics engines on the Wii...

I mean, is there really anything wrong with Nintendo using a 3rd party engine for a first party game? Just asking, lol.

And Hombre De Mundo, TP had Gamecube Graphics. I'm actually hoping for Wii graphics this time around. If you think I'm a graphics whore, just remember that there are hardly any Wii-lovers in my country, and I'm one of them.

Considering that TP's engine was just a modified engine of Wind Waker, I'd say it's high time to create or incorporate a new engine.

I'd hope they'd just take the graphics engine of TP, make some of the textures less blurry looking, and apply some fancy Galaxy-esque lighting and some more vibrant colours.

Next Zelda is going to take more time coming out than the last ones because they are sure to make a new engine for it (or why not use super mario galaxy engine).

I think engines are developed with a specific genre in mind. So, while they can be versatile, like the Unreal engine and the Source engine, they always work best for that particular genre. So, I don't think using Quantum3 would be a good idea. As others have already said, I think that the SMG engine is a pretty good one for a Zelda game.

Oh certainly, I want them to really push the hardware in every area, graphics and physics alike. On a scale though, graphics are really low. TP looked great and is still one of the best-looking wii games (ironically) and if they just polished those up a little, I wouldn't mind it, It wouldn't be a huge loss or anything.
