Next Zeldas to take from ideas that never got in?

This proves true a lot. Zelda games start with many many ideas. The Zelda team takes the ideas and tries to figure out which ones will stay and which ones can't.

In Ocarina of Time it was Miyamoto's dream to have Link attack with his sword on his horse. And in beta OoT Link is seen doing some flashy flip jumps and twirly sword combos, and there is another bird companion that could be called with the ocarina for warping. Unfortunately it was all cut from the game.

But if you'll notice, a lot of this stuff goes into the next games. Majora's Mask has the flipping jumps, Twilight Princess has plenty of things that Ocarina had to cut, infact TP is based off of all the things OoT couldn't do.

And after TWW was made Eiji wanted to make TWW2, but that was completely cut in order to make TP, but then the idea of TWW2 was carried on into PH.

So, assuming future Zelda's continue carrying old cut-out ideas into the next Zeldas here are potential thing the Zelda team would consider (Taken from many interviews)

Quote:
"Famitsu: What happens when your hitpoints go down?
Miyamoto: Your speed will get slower, and it will be easier for you to be defeated."

-Miyamoto, during an early interview with Famitsu about OoT.
Seems realistic, I don't see why they didn't hold on to it.

Quote:
"There are six types of magic, including fire, wind, darkness, and light. I'm thinking about mixing the different types of magic. Truthfully, you can use magic in conjunction with Link's bow and arrow."

-Miyamoto, talking about an early version of OoT
Darkness and Wind? I don't remember those ones. >_>

Quote:
"I think it would be fun if small enemies would come out of the wound of a larger enemy."

-Miyamoto, talking about an early version of OoT
...Maybe they've already done this? It seem Zelda-esque.

Quote:
I was wondering maybe you might incorporate something like that, like a cooking mini-game, into a Zelda game in the future? [laughter]

EA: To tell the truth, I’ve been thinking a long time about how I could work cooking into a game somehow. [laughter] But the fact of the matter is that cooking is, if you think about it, pretty boring.
Twilight Princess Snowpeak Mansion anyone? Ordon pumpkin and cheese. xD (FSA interview)

Quote:
We asked Aonuma why Twilight Princess didn't feature an orchestral soundtrack.

[Omitting that] was actually a conscious decision we had to make because of development timing," said Aonuma. "It's something that Kondo-san [the game's composer] is very frustrated about -- he really wishes we could have implemented that. So I'm hoping you'll look forward to that in future Zelda games."
He makes it seem confirmed...(TP Interview)

Quote:
EA: I mean, it’s interesting to use voice in games. But using voice obviously leads to challenges in the localization process, because obviously you have to change the voice from one language to another. But in this case, with Tetra’s Trackers, what we had was voice work that was used in the game not only to just convey story, but really voice work that was integ—inte…

Bill Trinen: What am I trying to say? Inte…

Others: Integral.

Bill Trinen: Integral! I can’t believe [chuckles]…

EA: It was integral to the gameplay and was intricately connected to the actual gameplay. And so when you do something like that, what you really have to do is think through not only how the voice is going to connect to the gameplay but how the actual language is connected to the gameplay. Because in changing to a different language, and changing language structure, that can affect how those are linked and how things get linked up in the game. So I think it is definitely interesting and has possibilities, [but] it just leads to lots of challenges and a lot of very careful thought processes that you have to think all the way through.
WHat do you know, it's all because Nintendo hates localization. xD (FSA interview)

Quote:
Iwata = Ocarina of Time from a first-person perspective!?

Miyamoto = I thought that might surprise you! (laughs)

I thought that the FPS system would be the best way of enabling players to take in the vast terrain of the Hyrule Field. Besides, by not having the player’s character on the screen, we can spend more time and machine power on creating enemies and the environments.
Glad they dropped it. @_@ (LCT interview)

Quote:
Iwata = Yeah, an FPS Mario game doesn’t seem to fit either! (laughs)

Miyamoto = So we figured that Link was the logical choice. Then we argued that it would’ve been kind of strange for us to give Link a gun, so I proposed a sort of Terminator style story about a time warp from the future, but…

Iwata = Terminator!?

Miyamoto = Yeah, they vetoed that idea immediately (laughs).
ROFL...that's the best Miyamoto. xD (LCT Interview)

Quote:
EGM: We love how a second player can play via a Game Boy Advance/GC link cable—where'd that idea come from?

EA: In the early stages of the development, Mr. Miyamoto asked us one question: "The Zelda games so far have all been single player; isn't it possible to involve another person who could cooperate with the player to solve riddles together?" I had already been thinking about using some type of online manual, where hints and supplemental information would be provided to players online. So, we realized we could [combine the two ideas] by involving another person on a linked Game Boy Advance.
Woaaaaaaah! They just patented that! (TWW interview)

Quote:
Q: The graphics in the game are beautiful. Will the game feature high production values throughout? To be more specific, will we see detailed cinematics, major story developments and will characters speak with acted voices?

Shigeru Miyamoto: I actually don't want Link to talk very much. Maybe I'll record my own voice for when he talks, or maybe you can record your own voice [laughs].
Lol, he jokes so much, or is this an early hint at WiiSpeak? (Early TP Interview)

What do you think about Nintendo's cut ideas?

Some of those ideas would actually work out in a very respectable manner.

Re: Ideas that never made it will go to future Zeldas?

I think it's kind of funny how the Zelda team has thought of a lot of the same ideas as us. If Miyamoto did persuade the team into making a "Terminator-esque" Zelda game, could you imagine our reaction after that April fools video back in 2007. (I think) xD
