New Sword Techniques
For the next Zelda, I'm guessing that Link will be doing some fancy stuff with his sword at some point. So while we're waiting...what are some ideas everyone has for new sword techniques (or all-around combat techniques)? The ol' Spin Attack is kinda getting old just by itself. Here are a couple of my ideas:
Fury Sword: Link imbues his sword with magic, allowing him to swing it faster. For every time a button is pressed (or the Wiimote is swung) Link slashes with his sword twice in the same amount of time it'd normally take him to attack once. This effect drains magic as long as Link uses it. This move could be used to quickly overpower tough enemies who simply can't block fast enough. Horse Leap: While Link is on Epona and charging toward a mounted enemy, at the right moment the player can press a button and Link will leap off Epona, kicking the monster off its ride. Link can use this move to jump from Epona to monster's mount, and back to Epona again. Two Weapons: Link holds his sword in his left hand and a dagger in his right. With two weapons, he can do more damage, but it's much harder to defend himself without a shield. The dagger is controlled by the Nunchuk. Blade Jump: This is kinda similar to what Dark Link does in OoT. Whenever a monster tries to stab you, Link hops onto their weapon, pinning it to the ground and allowing you an easy hit. Be creative. Maybe one technique requires for a certain secondary item to be equipped in order for it to work. Alright, what ideas do you have?

Re: New Sword Techniques
- Run towards the target, stab the sword towards the ground and push to vault either over the enemy and surprise them or right into the enemy, knocking them back
- Sword beams, basically just stab when hearts are full - Pegasus dash: With the pegasus boots, dash towards the enemy with either the shield or sword in front of you - Quickly crouch and stab upwards past the enemy's shield |

Re: New Sword Techniques
All i want them to keep is the Finishing Blow, the Spin Attack (it's always gotta be there), and that one charge up jump attack.

Re: New Sword Techniques
Even if 1:1 was possible, it should not push away learnable techniques.

Re: New Sword Techniques
I always thought different fighting styles would be cool. For example, There would be the basic style (Hylian Knight, Normal sword and shield) but you could also learn styles like Darknut (Large sword, small buckler shield) and Weakened Darknut. (Rapier, no shield)
I have ideas for several styles, if you want to hear them. |

Re: New Sword Techniques
I would personally like to see Link use different sets of items in either hand. The next Link should be ambidextrous, allowing for different styles that allow the player to get more immersed in the gameplay.
Equip: 1-H sword in one hand, Fist (or knuckler) in the other: Allows fast combos of hits and defensive techniques to parry attacks and disarm foes. The sword should be used at an initial range, and then as the enemy nears closer, the player can use a combination of the fist and swords to disarm the enemy and gain massive combos. The fist deals less damage, but can supress a foe more easily. 1-H sword in one hand, Throwing weapon in the other: Allows for some amount of ranged attack. Throwing weapons can be Shuriken or throwing knives, which can be pulled out of an enemy upon defeat or have a limited amount. 1-H sword in one hand, Shield in the other: Allows for a sturdy defense against most attacks. The shield can't be used for much more than shoves as far as attacking is concerned however. This is the most traditional setup. 2-H sword, occupies both hands: Allows for massive attack and increased swinging range. This setup can be a bit slower than a 1-H sword and can throw Link off his balance if enemies manage to parry. However, Link has a superior range and power against them, so he should be able to take out many monsters before they can near him. The sets could be further customized, allowing for setups such as a Shield and a Throwing weapon, or 2 swords when 2 are acquired.

Re: New Sword Techniques
I kinda had this idea for...
... let's pretend that there's this enemy charging at you at a high speed. Swing the Remote left or right at the right time and Link would sidestep and knock the enemy with his sword, while said enemy was still moving.

Re: New Sword Techniques
Heh, well this sounds fun. I wouldnt really suggest anything major...just slight little additions. Like... when you jump attack close to an enemy, instead of jumping, you simply do a two handed slash. Perhaps it would be a little more efficient that a jump slash.
I'd also like to see a side hop slash. You side hop from the enemy, and press A in mid hop to counter attack with a sorta mid air spin. A nice dodge and retaliation. Quote:
A random lame one, a charged stab. When doing a stab attack, hold B and eh...well...he charges and stabs. xD Another nice defense piercing attacks, made perfect for cutting darknuts down to size. But obviously, a slow attack. It would leave you wide open. Then last, a retreating slash. When your backing away from the opponent, link swings his blade upward, catching charging enemies off gaurd quite easily, or if the mechanic was added, to ward the enemy off from you. Then maybe...JUST maybe, the two handed slash could be stringed with the retreaiting slash to do a nice up down combo...just my thoughts. |

Re: New Sword Techniques
I know this will never come to pass, but I always thought it was lame that no enemies ever showed any form of wound, and that every single enemy that dies simply "blows up" into a harmless puff of evil magic or whatever.
I think that the mortal draw should decapitate the enemy. Or at least sever the jugular vein. It doesn't have to be overdone or anything, just at least show some wounds. A sword throw technique would be cool. If the enemy is somewhat far away and unsuspecting of any attack, Link hurls his sword at the enemy, plunging the blade into the enemy's head. Of course, it becomes a hassle having to retrieve your sword every time, so don't do this against multiple enemies. |

1. Maybe, when you do a "jump attack" when you're really close to enemy X, you would do a helm-splitter instead, jump-attacking over enemy X, slashing its head in midair, and landing in a normal jump attack on the other side, slashing anybody behind the enemy X. 2. Hmm... instead of sidehopping and pressing a button, they could make Link do an automatic inward slash whenever you side-hop (Z + Side + A) Incase people are worried about the back-slice, it would work like this: The sidestep-slash (from idea 2) would stun the enemy, then the next quick sidehop would be a roll (like in TP), during which you would shake the wii remote to back-slice the enemy. Basically: (hold Z + left/right on c-stick) + A + A + shake remote for two quick slices.

Re: New Sword Techniques
when me and my friend play zelda we always seem to end up talking about what would be a cool move for zelda games heres some of our ideas.
1) being able to sneak up behind an enemy and do some sort of stealth kill (there isnt alot of stealth in zelda it could really use some) 2) since the sidestep jump attack in tp is pretty lame we thought it would do much more damage if instead of a weak horizontal slash he did a jumping spin attack to the side 3)being able to use a gods power such as din to set your sword on fire to give you both light and an advantage over ice enemies =] 4)this one is a bit different because since fighting with the sword can sometimes get a bit tiresome how about being able to use punches and kicks (it could happen =( ) 5) finally how about being able to do a backflip off of a wall or somekind of wall jump attack anyways mull it over and reply saying what you think =] |

Re: New Sword Techniques
TP's sword style should be maintained with some improvements.
There could be an option that would allow more accurate sword swings and such, but if you didn't want to exhaust yourself, TP-style ( a simple Wiimote swing) swordfighting could be set.
