A silent Area in Zelda

One of my favorite parts in the WW was going down to Hyrule Castle and it being black and White and pretty much completely silent.

I think it would be amazing if in a future Zelda there is an area or temple dedicated to silence. Like you can't hear your sword clashes no music. The only thing you can hear is the slight eerie wind and the growl of the boss in the distance. The visuals would have to be what guides you.

If it was a temple each different part would be themed like black and white or something or different color templates or themes.

What do you think? Yay Nay? What are your ideas to expand this?

That would be slick and have some monsters that sneak up behind you. Black and white would probably work the best for that.

Just mute your TV.

I however liked the "frozen" Hyrule Castle in The Wind Waker, too.

In my opinion one of the greatest things about zelda is its awsome music. Making a dungeon without music would suck. I would like to see more black and white frozen time areas though.

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

I'd like to expand on your idea. I was watching an old episode of Batman Beyond, and he went up against an enemy that could turn off all the noise in the surrounding area (but the audience could still hear faint echos of footsteps). If this were to be incorperated into a Zelda dungeon, it may very well make it harder...that is, if the Zelda games were played in surround sound to determine what direction a noise is coming from. I'm sure a few enemies will have advantages to this noise-less environment (like Wizrobes and Keese), but they'll only be advantageous until they are seen.

But the environment can't be completely audio-less (because then it would seem as if you just put the game on mute, and that's no fun). There's still got to be music in the background, or maybe a faint echo here and there (like a droplet of water falling on a puddle every now and then).

But like I said before, this type of gameplay might not take to it's full potential until it's needed to play in surround sound

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

If you ever watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer they an episode called Hush That took everyones voices away, and the silence caused everything to be a lot more creepy. I want a temple/dungeon that would actually cause me some fear.

they should do that with a shadow temple in the future. maybe a new enemy, where it's mostly silent, and you have to rely on shadows that can be seen on the wall, or, better yet, one that turns into a shadow.

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

Maybe not total silence from music, but I would like to see something where no sound effects could be heard. For a temple that tries to mess with your mind. Maybe some sort of music in it, something slow and quiet, like the theme of the Wind Temple from WW or Forest Temple from OoT.

For a final battle, I've always wanted to mute the sound effects and set the epic music to full blast, just resonating a feeling that makes the battle that much more epic.

I think it would be more effective if only some sort of ominous ambience could be heard as the background music, and any sound effects would either be very muffled (like you're listening from behind a door or a wall) or completely muted.

That takes me back to the first Legend of Zelda game, when you could hear the boss growling when you were near his room... That would be so amazing!!!

Perhaps the dungeon could have a really slow timer that gradually "spreads" across the dungeon, gradually waking up enemies and adding color and music... A really good player would be able to get very far without having to confront a single enemy...

And just to make it harder, include Floormasters to keep taking you back to the beginning

I like the idea, but I agree with BigGoron, the music should consist of a faint echo or water droplet every 15 seconds, gradually(but very slowly) building up to some creepy music...

That'd be really cool! I imagine the temple bright black and white, with a few colored objects here and there.

Yeah your right some music should be in there, but nothing to peppy, but more of a melodic eerie sounding music to mess with your head.

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

actually, i was thinking more of a quite, macabre background music that suddenly fades away as you approach certain areas (as in areas with minor bosses), to the point of where you can hear Link breath.

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

That's a great idea!

It could be not completely silent but kind of like the end of OOT, perhaps there would be an eerie song being played in the distance and as you reach nearer the end it grows louder and louder. When you get to the end, you realize it's the boss. The rest of the dungeon would just be silent. No sound effects.

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

Pan flutes. They should at least one temple (the last one if anything) have like a Native American pan flute spiritual song. Kind of like the music on the Spirit temple in OoT, the music makes you look back on what you've done in the game and realizing your journey is almost complete.

As for the silent idea, I really like it. They kind of did that on the top of the Outset summit in WW when there are like only two notes that play like every 7 seconds. But only to interrupt it with enemy music.

I agree that i would be sad and annoyed without music. Music is one of the greatest things about Zelda and it's what makes it stand out....then again, OTHER games have never gone for an idea of a "Silent" Dungeon which, also, makes it stand out from others. It would definatley be a fantastic idea from my point of view

Re: A silent Area in Zelda

If there is music in the dungeon it should be an organic sound. Kinda soft and earthy with a mix of human shrieks or animals everyonce and awhile. But make the actual music sound very distant in the background. That combined with hearing the boss like in Loz would make a very creepy dungeon adding all the silent elements as well.
