I propose a drastic change in Link's character.

Incidentally, Zelda is third-person, Link reacts to things differently than I do, Link is his own person.

He has extremely basic reactions like surprise when something surprising happens. Deep character.

And if they want me to suprise, they'd have to try harder.

Personally, I like Link the way he is. He's a fictional character. I think that Link's the one PERFECT aspect of Zelda, let's not ruin it.

In all seriousness, though, So long as these are purely atmospheric I'd have no problem with this, but I don't want realism interfering with my gameplay.

As far as giving Link a voice goes... I've always just thought they should make Link mute/autistic. That would add A LOT to the character, in my opinion, and would keep him from talking.

I always just kind of assume that he's autistic/mute when I play the games. It makes Link seem a lot deeper, and it makes the games feel a bit darker.

Right, we just want realism that enhances the game-play. That which hinders goes out the window.

I agree 100%. Since Link already has his own VA, implied speech, and spoken dialogue anyway, I never understood this whole Link is ME AND MY VOICE theory. I don't recall in any of the interviews from Miyamoto and Aunoma that said they were giving the green light to Zelda fans to make up badly thought out personalities for him at all. I think what you see in the games is what you get in Link's character/personality in the 3D games at least.

Though I would like Link to be more like Kratos from God of War or the guy from Assassins Creed, I think too many hardcore fanboys and girls alike would be outraged if something like that were to happen. Therefore I think its best to keep Link as a generic pure hearted nice guy who is more likely to be gentle spoken in social situations.

Generic, though it can be done well.

*for want of a better example* Look at Superman. He's soft spoken in social situations but in combat, he's the Motha F***ing Man of Steel! Respect him!

Link in Wind Waker seemed to be aware of his surroundings and display many emotions, such as fatigue, sadness, dread, fear, shock, contempt, confusion etc.

Link in Twilight Princess would either grin stupidly or look mildly suprised.

Link was in shock at seeing the cat steal the fish and seeing Armoghoma's eye running around, not to mention he was visibly sad after Midna leaves at the end, and he was enraged at Ganondorf when he saw Ganon crush the Fused Shadow, showing that he "killed" Midna, and was furious when King Bulbin kidnapped Colin.

TP Link had a ton of personality.

And he never grinned stupidly. I believe the character you're looking for is Naruto or Ash Ketchum, and Link is nothing like either one of them.
