2-player Co-op. What would it do?

Basically, I'm asking what 2player co-op would do, because I sorta enjoyed playing 2 player with an extra 'mote on Mario Galaxy. I think there should still only be a lone remote for the 2nd player, no nunchaku.

My idea:
I think the pointer should be a red fairy, as opposed to P1's blue fairy. This fairy could be used as a distraction for enemies by moving the fairy around said enemy.

Also, P2 would be able to use arrows and bombs. A button for arrows, B for bombs (easy to remember, no?) When aiming, P2 would hold down one of the aforementioned buttons and the fairy would turn into a crosshairs for aiming. Release the button, and said arrow/bomb would be sent flying toward the enemy. Assume that arrows have enough range to shoot as far as Link can see, while bombs travel in an arc.

Also, "down" on the d-pad would change A and B from arrows and bombs to different spells. What spells would be used would be decided on the items menu screen. Of course, this would require the co-operation of P1, but, whatever.

Post your ideas or thoughts (or questions) about a 2player co-op system.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

I'm sorry. I don't quite understand. If p2 can throw bombs and shoot arrow, does this mean that the fairy is doing this, or is link going to grow an extra two arms?? Maybe I didn't read it well...

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

I hated the co-op in Galaxy. It felt so tacked on and artificial.

Anyway, I'd prefer that co-op be Four Swords, or that there would be no co-op at all.

I think there should be full two-player coop, not that bull about player 2 getting the shaft. Set aside specialized coop dungeons that aren't a part of the main quest, too.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

Honestly, outside of foursword's, co-op has no place in zelda. If they could make a FS style co-op game that didn't require 4 way link cables and/or GC-GBA connectors, 4 GBAs, and 4 FS copies to play that would be great, but anything like your suggesting would be terrible.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

I could accept a 2 player co-op, If the second character actually is one that I'd want to play as. So that means it can't be Tingle.

maybe that would be Link's new companion.
(see any my thread for details)

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

Here's an idea for how a co-op Zelda could work:

Early on in the game, you meet a companion character and you each recieve a stone called the Soul Stone. There would be points in the game that Link could not reach, no matter how hard he tried. The Soul Stone would switch Link out with the companion character, who can make the unreachable... reachable.

There could also be a 2 player version in which both Link and the companion are played simultaneously. The Soul Stone in this case, however, would serve only for purpose of the storyline, and be completley useless.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

Maybe the co-op would work in two different modes. In singleplayer mode (adventure) the co-op would work similar to the one in galaxy, and during the adventure you would unlock special co-op dungeons which would really be played by two players properly.

Trying not to be offended at your lack of reason but...

... seriously, there would also be a choice as to whether or not it's used. Hardcore gamers would just avoid it, while casuals would use it, I'm sure.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

But if someone is playing Link, and 2nd player is randomly shooting arrows and bombs which is coming from the 2nd player pointer...like the whole idea just sounds bad.

This might work as a bonus dungeon demo, as an addition to the main game.

Re: 2-player Co-op. What would it do?

The Wind Waker had Co-op...it was optional but it was there. 2nd Player has the joy of playing as Tingle...sort of. xD I think it would be cool if they expanded on TWW's idea. But without the Gameboy Advance...and without the Tingle.
