A Link to the Past: Cel Shaded

If any of you know me, you'd know I was never the biggest fan of the Wind Waker. I think it is great now, not my favorite, but it gets the job done. Honestly, I didn't think adult Link would look good at all in a cel shaded style. I still love the realistic (TP, OoT) version more than anything in the world, yet I saw something that made me really become interested in a cel shaded adventure in Hyrule.

Many of you have probably already seen this:

I wonder, what would a remake of A Link to the Past be like in this format? I know what most of you are thinking, "No, remakes are a bad idea," but give it a thought. The Wind Waker-- to me at least-- had that amazing old-timey ALttP feel to it, in fact, that's probably the only reason I liked it. If they made A Link to the Past in that format, I think I would honestly enjoy that adventure quite a bit.

Discuss.

Okay. Since you want us to NOT say how "remakes are bad", I'll refrain from saying that this is a near impossibility as they wouldn't remake this game.

But for discussion's sake? Sure. :] I like discussions.

Now... If it were to be remake in a Cel-shaded style? I'd like to see it in a more PH or Windwaker style. Now, there could be two kinds of remakes.

1. Graphics Update. This is where it keeps the same dungeons. Same patterns. Same everything. It just gets a graphic update and some improvements in the menu. This would be best for Phantom Hourglass style, and would be thusly a DS game. It'll keep the top-view, and they can retain the original map details and everything that was in the original game.

2. Complete Revamp. Keep the story, keep the ideas of the dungeons, but everything else is different. This is assuming that they'd go for a more 3D Wind Waker style, rather than the top-view of Phantom Hourglass. The dungeons don't translate so easlily over from 2D to 3D like that, so some serious re-design is needed for it. But if done right, and the story is kept the same and slightly improved... it'd make a good game.

What do I think? I'd go for a revamp of the original graphics. In Phantom Hourglass style. 2D. DS. That's what I'd go for, for sure. They could certainly do some interesting things with it.

Re: A Link to the Past: Cel Shaded

Oh, I know they would never remake it, but if they did, I think it would be fun to play. I never really advocate any sort of remake of a Zelda game, but I really loved the feel of The Wind Waker for the reason that it reminded me of ALttP.

I don't personally like the idea of it being a 2D top view. For the DS I wouldn't really care for it much. If it were for the Wii, it would definitely get my vote.

I think a complete redesign of the dungeons are in order. Keep the same feel, but in order to transition from 2D to 3D they would need to be completely redesigned.

No Remakes!
Think of it like this, most players call a lot of these different zelda games remakes. So eventually there will probably be some cell shaded zelda game that will really remind you of LTTP.

Re: A Link to the Past: Cel Shaded

i loooovvveeddd WW! it's my favorite zelda game. i hope they do make another cel-shaded zelda sometime. if it were a Alttp remake, it depends. if it were just a graphics update (something like PH style) meh. but if it were a complete redo (ala 3D) that would be awesome. but im with dark-hero i would prefer a brand new zelda game.

I liked TWW. They picked a good graphical style. That, however, would not do well with ALttP, which needs a more somber tone.

An ALttP remake would be the best thing since...well...TP.

Link's Awakening in 3D with the cel-shade style would be amazing.
