Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
It would be great. I'm thinking something like this.
![]() The midevil setting has just been worked to death. MM started the basis for a steampunk zelda, they just need to add to it. FF has done great with it, and it would bring a new depth to the series. Note, I am not suggesting link pick up a Uzi. Link would still use a sword, bow, shield, etc. His items would simply be reimagined in a steampunk style. It would still be the same hyrule, just 500 years of technalogical advances. |

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
I'd like an advanced zelda IF its not the only option. By this, i mean, is that you "time travel" to the future (where everything is advanced to a moderate degree (still medivel-ish)) and uses future tools from the future in the past to help you solve puzzles.

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
Personally I would like to see a Zelda where Hyrule flourished its technology with the assistance of magic, so things such as swords, bows, etc are still in use. This could be due to how Something like a gun would be harder to infuse with magic power, due to its complexity in design. Swords and bows are simple and straightforward, so they can be enchanted without much difficulty.
Throughout the course of this game I would hate to see Link packing heat and tearing down bulblins with his new P90 and blowing up heads with the Barret he just found in a treasure chest. The whole objective point I made in the above paragraph was to use simpler technology as a better means for using magic, and so Link would strictly be using magical weapons. He could fight enemies using guns, possibly creating a new way to play Zelda - since the magic can't quite match the speed of bullets, Link can use ways to distract and sneak around his enemies, altering the play style for the game as well as stacking some serious replayability.

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
Hyrule could go by an evolutionary rather than revolutionary tech system. Instead of discovering new inventions like guns, they simply continue to upgrade their current ones. So they still have bows, but they now use magnets or compressed gas to fire rather than a string. They still have swords, but now that vibrate ultrasonicly for more damage.

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
It's not so big a deal for me to change the setting of a Zelda. Futuristic skyscrapers, industrial cities or high-fantasy villages all suit me, just as long as it feels like Zelda; there's adventure, there's puzzles and there's swordfighting.
And futuristic guns wouldn't necessarily mean that there's no swords. As I've said before, how are normal bullets going to work against shadow-creatures and other magical beings? That's a job for the Sword of Evil's Bane. And I can totally imagine Link riding a motorcycle named Epona in a ruined, apocalyptic city, with a low-grade rifle and Master Sword strapped to his back. Oh yeah!

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
Changing time period is a cheap fix to a deeper problem - the staleness of recent Zelda gameplay. Making it futuristic/steampunk would temporarily make Zelda feel rejuvinated, but it would be shallow and skin deep - the real problem lies in the need for gameplay structure change.
And of course, if you were to change scenario and change gameplay structure in one game, it would feel far too different and they would simply be better off turning it into a brand-new IP. |

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
I'd like to see them create some sort of system to have a plot-based (ala TP), yet free-roaming (ala LOZ) Zelda title. That would be something really special.

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
Meh. I'm no fan of Oblivion. I felt there was absolutely no direction to the game. I like open-ended games, but there comes a point where it feels a little too loose for my liking.

And rifle = GTA? Just as the post-apocalyptic thing is mine. And I can see most people don't see it that way, heh.

Re: new zelda futuruistic/steampunk?
Steampunk Zelda? Would that be awesome?
-Steampunk Zelda Items- by ~Alyxium on deviantART Hell yeah it would! Personally, I think that type of setting fits an advanced Hyrule perfectly (with lots of magic involved in the technology, of course).
