Future console Links Right or Left Handed

I looked and looked for this subject and I couldn't find it, so if you know I'm starting a thread that already exist feel free to let a mod know and they can delete this.

I just wrapped up TP on my Wii. I loved every aspect of that game, every bit as good as WW or OoT!

The question I came up with was this:

If, in new Wii Zelda titles, you have to use the controller to swing your sword like the Wii version, which was mirrored for the majority of people who are righ-handed, will Link be right handed in future Wii games?

If so, does this ruin people's ideas of Link or Nintendo for changing that?

To me, it's not a big deal, but I can see where other people would be upset by this. I was curious how you ll feel about this.

Big deal. The Links are obviously different, and left-handedness/right-handedness has very little to do with genetics. I honestly would not care.

Re: Future console Links Right or Left Handed

I doubt that it'd ruin the game, but I do know some hard-core fans will be dissapointed to see Link be right-handed over being left-handed.

I wouldn't care too much. It's Link. It's a Zelda game. That's enough to make me happy.

It'd be interesting to see if they just keep him south-pawed, since it shouldn't REALLY effect the gameplay.

You swing your arm right. The sword goes right. Swing your arm left. The sword goes left. That's all we really need.

They better not. That's all I have to say. I really feel like Nintendo took the easy way out with TP and made the expirience worse, at least for someone like me who has played through the Wii version a bunch of times. Instead of just flipping his hand they went "Image > Flip Horizontal" Haha but I really think it didn't have to be that way. I don't like it.

The reason they completely flipped the whole thing, is I think that Twilight Princess was so close to being completed, that reversing Link would have some serious programming issues. I really can't fathom what it could have possibly been, but the programming might have been so ingraned, that unwrapping it and fixing it would have been a major headache. Flipping it seemed the easier option.

If they do make Link right-handed, it'll just mean Link is right-handed. The game itself probably wont' change.

They should make an option to make Link right or left handed. For those players who prefer to see a right-handed character when playing on a Wii. And for those who just don't bloody care, and want Link to be as he should be.

And since the problem of whether Link is left or right handed has now been realized (even if that meant they realized that near the end of the production of Twilight Princess), then that means they could plan the ability to HAVE that option. It's way easier to work from the beginning, than unwrapping from the end.

Let the player decide Link's handedness. A few problems and balance issues might arise, but nothing that can't be fixed.

Re: Future console Links Right or Left Handed

You know, in my infinite wisdom (yeah right), I didn't even consider that Nintendo would foresee this and make handedness an option. That would be great, so they wouldn't have to worry about leaving anyone out.

And to those of you who do care if Link is a lefty:

Why is it a problem if he is a righty? If Link can be different people throughout time, as proven in WW, why then would it not be possible that one of them is right handed?

I'm not trying to start anything, as I said before, I don't care either way.

I'm not going to buy it if there's no option to play the game normally (left-handed)
That is all.

Yeah. I totally agree. A Zelda game is a Zelda game. And I hightly doubt which hand Link uses will really effect how the game is played. At all. I doubt that Link being righthanded will make it so the plot sucks more. I doubt him being righthanded makes the models less appealing. I doubt it will make the characters shallow, or the bosses weak. I doubt it'll make the game easier in a bad way. I doubt it'll ruin the game in any way. Shape. Or form.

But that's me.

I don't want to start anything either. But I really don't believe that this is a REAL problem concerning the Zelda games. We should be more concerned if they start throwing around that they want Link to be a robot and he beats bosses by lobbing cardboard boxes at them and the main badguy is Tingle, whos main mode of attack is spinning whilist giggling gleefully, all the while tossing rupees at you.

I mean... THEN we should be concerned. Or amused.

... I'm not sure which.

Give them an option to let them play it with their left hand or right hand, that way everyone will be happy...

This.

But not like in TP where you had to buy it on either GC or Wii.

Wow, thats just sad. Not much of a Zelda fan if Link using a different hand to use his sword would put you off the game. I take you you don't care about the gameplay or the story or anything at all then?

BTW, Link is ambidextrous, he uses both hands but favours his left for swords

Re: Future console Links Right or Left Handed

Link shouls stay left handed. I always liked how link was a different character in terms of personality and handedness from any characters in most other games. I like the uniqueness. Besides, what hand your character uses with his sword isnt gunna screw people up swinging there wii remote. It didn't mess me up when i played TP. Also, Link was made a lefty for the later released brawl. I think the only reason he was switched for tp was simply because they flipped the game.

Re: Future console Links Right or Left Handed

It's not a big deal to me, since I'm right handed. Any time I imagine him in my head doing stuff, he's right handed. However, I feel for any lefty out there who's disappointed that Ninty favored the righties with TP Wii. Even though most people are right handed, lefties probably related to him more for being left handed.

Like I've said, Link is ambidextrous, he just uses his left hand for swordplay. It doesn't make a difference what hand he uses

Re: Future console Links Right or Left Handed

I remember playing TP and thinking that it just looked awkward fighting, like every other game where the guy uses a sword, and it took me a little bit to figure it out. It's not that big a deal if he goes right, but it's nice to have one cool character that you can relate to being left handed. But, again though, not the end of the world...

Why not simply be given the option of being left handed or right handed in the next Zelda Wii title? It'll make everyone happy, including players who are indeed left handed.
