Re: Patent by Shigeru Miyamoto: Hint system in next Zelda? (unconfirmed)

Being a hardcore gamer and a huge Mario fan, I have to disagree with you there. But moving on.

Also, I don't think Zelda games really appeal to casual gamers. But then again, the Wii console is all about casuals.... so....

Re: Patent by Shigeru Miyamoto: Hint system in next Zelda? (unconfirmed)

After reading this over, I think this is probably the best thing to happen to Zelda, ever.

The hint system is optional. Example, for those who want a traditional game without any help have the freedom not to use the hint system, while for casual players/new to Zelda, the hint system can be used with the help of the digest mode, which demonstrates how to get pass certain points of the game. The scene selector sounds pretty cool, that means we can play over any cutscene or instance we want. This may finally mean we have the freedom to redo puzzles and boss battles.

EDIT: Press "A" to win? I'm sure it's not like that at all. The demonstration probably resets the puzzle for players to try themselves after it's demonstrated in digest mode.

Of coure, it's just a patent, but it all sounds absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to see this unfold.

EDIT: I think it is for Zelda. In the picture describing the system we clearly see a drawing of Link.
http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/69...scription.html

Now I'm even more convinced this is for Zelda, this patent is way too detailed not to be used. It even goes over the details of using Motion Plus.

I worded that wrong.

I meant to say the hint system is optional for those who want a traditional game without any help.

Re: Patent by Shigeru Miyamoto: Hint system in next Zelda? (unconfirmed)

Very interesting. It's great to finally get a glympse of what the next Zelda is about; however, I don't like the idea too much. I'd say that it's pretty much a built-in youtube channel filled with other people's videos projecting their performance on how to get further. The part I don't like is the option to allow the game to advance by itself (if there is such option)-- it's screaming "This game is for the Wii Fit crowd, too!" Looks like Zelda has become victim of the casual appeal as well.

In any case, as long as none of this is forced on the traditional players like myself, then I have no problem with it. Heck, I may even try looking at a few videos once in a while. Now, based on these pictures of the male-looking figure wearing a shield and sword, does that mean that the following possibilities are dead?:

-Futuristic/Modern-esque
-Main character Zelda/Female/Some other person not reminiscent to Link

Wow, we finally get to speculate. Also, is that all there is on the patent? Could there be something more than that?

Eh, I don't know. . . It's better than making the game generally easier, but what's wrong with normal difficulty levels? Does Nintendo really have to pamper the casuals so?
I remember someone joking about a button that plays the game for you. I thought the idea impossible and silly.

But hey, the most important thing is that Nintendo is making money, right?

Interesting concept, though I probably won't use it.

Though if they pull **** like OoT's Water Temple, I might eat my words.

You know, this might just be for game testing purposes. Just saying. ;D

EDIT: The digest/scene selection thing seems to be for replay value. If the digest is what I suspect it to be, we may be able to watch the bulk of the game as a movie.

Computer-readable storage medium patent by Shigeru Miyamoto - NeoGAF

Theres another forums opinions on this. Just posting it cause some people may still be confused and it helps to look at what others see from this.

What are you talking about?

If I held a sword and a shield, would I be Link? No. Those are just some very quick sketches that show the system, and isn't supposed to be about Link. For all we know, Shigeru may have decided to use Zelda as an example to show this, but this system may very well be designed for a different game.

That and the Link has no hair or a hat, so. It's still too soon to assume anything.

Re: Patent by Shigeru Miyamoto: Hint system in next Zelda? (unconfirmed)

I think this would actually be a good idea (as a person who has found some of the puzzles too hard... Water Temple I'm looking at you) or ran around for hours trying to figure something out. It would also give people who might not ever play Zelda a chance to play Zelda. I started wanting to play the games when I was about 10. That is way to young for some one like me to figure out what to do, my brain just isn't there yet. So for people like me back them or even a little past that this? IS PERFECT.

Also if they could come up with a way to fight bosses... again? That would just make my day. The best part of MM was going around and kicking the butts of the bosses over and over again.

Not a bad idea. It'd be neat to have something similar to Brawl's SSE mode where, after reaching various points in the game, those scenes exist as scenes in a movie that you can go back and watch at any time--and when you beat the game, you can watch the whole thing as a kind of movie.

But if you were able to do this before beating it, then yeah, that would be uber cheap--comparable to what someone here said as "press A to win" if you get stumped. Completely contrary to the feel and spirit of Zelda.

Re: Patent by Shigeru Miyamoto: Hint system in next Zelda? (unconfirmed)

Here's my interpretaton:

Quote:
I saw it as a sort of recording system; it records what you do as you play through (recording button presses, etc). Other people, when they're stuck in a section of the game, can watch a recording of another person solving the puzzle/area (implying that the game is hard enough, to casuals at least, to warrant a "built-in youtube walkthrough" of sorts). This recording could also be watched through (and sped up) yourself in Digest Mode, to a point at which you would like to play through, at which point you can stop at that point and replay that section of the game without burden of save files and what have you.

Oh, hey, I just noticed this.

Remember when Miyamoto said that he wanted people to communicate with each other to solve puzzles in the first Zelda game ever? Could this be a revival of that idea? Seems so to me.

Dang, I was just about to post this. I think this idea sounds absolutley brilliant: Give the Casuals a "Win" button while the rest of us can play it the normal way.

If the digest thing is for replaying levels and what not.. Then I say, awesome. However it should only be for levels you have already completed.

I don't care for the hint system at all. That's just moronic. If you can't beat the game.. go buy a manual.

Sorry to interrupt, but when i saw this a few minutes ago in some wii-news sites, i noticed you missed a pattern image. I think it is the most important of all pattent images, it really convinced me this is for the next zelda.
