Originally when there were supposed to be three oracle games,
OoA was supposed
to be about colors. This is just a bunch of ideas that I decided to write
down whenever I was bored.
The story isn't all that great either, since I was trying to base it
on the way the original Oracles games were set. Feel free to leave any
suggestions or whatnot.
Also since I wouldn't mind being a writer/designer for future Zelda fan games
that anyone may be working on, you can call this practice. So yes, feel free
to comment and suggest.
LOZ: Oracle of Shades (Title could use some work..)
While traveling through the vast fields of Hyrule, Link was beckoned
by an odd force that drew him closer to a castle which housed
the Triforce. When he had finally reached the Triforce, a strange light
glowing in the seven colors of the rainbow surrounded his body as his
surroundings began to spin uncontrollably. Suddenly the Triforce began
to speak to him.
"
Link... Link... Accept the quest of the Triforce!"
And suddenly, Link had vanished from the land of Hyrule. When he had awoken,
he found himself in a field unlike the kind from Hyrule. Looking up he saw
a town in the distance and began to head for it, But he grew more weary
and finally collasped in front of the town, not without catching a glimpse
that the townsfolk seemed to be preparing the town for a special occasion.
The next moment, he awakes to some music outside and finds himself in a
villa with many pictures and paint buckets. A young woman notices his awakening
and hurries to his side.
"Welcome to the Town of Hues, This is Spectriom (Honestly, I need better names).
My name is Perilet, the local town painter."
Link soon wonders what the hustle and bustle is outside, and Perilet
leads him outside. There is a huge festival with all sorts of colors
on show. Perilet explains to Link that all of Spectriom think of colors
as a gracious blessing from the gods. Every year they hold the annual
Rainbow Festival to honor the gods as well as the blessing of color.
Link is invited by Perilet to stay for awhile and to enjoy the occasion. Link
decides to stay a bit longer and even reunites with Impa again, this time
claiming that she is a mere tourist who came to see the festival. Everyone
is having a good time, when suddenly a great disturbance is felt.....
The skies suddenly turn black as night, and all sources of light seem
to vanish! Without light and without the ability to see color in this
sudden darkness, most of the villagers become very frightened but are
scared stiff. Suddenly strange auras appear from thin air and morph into some
sort of humanoid demon, with physical traits of bats. (I couldn't think of
anything else that fitted with the theme. It's sometimes hard to think up new races.)
Although he seems child-like in appearance.
"Perilet!" It screecbed. "You had hidden yourself well as a painter, but
even your disguises cannot fool my senses! I am Rafulin, Child of The Black
Dusk! Now reveal yourself, Oracle of Shades!!"
Rafulin's back suddenly grows bat-like wings (which weren't there before) and
he flies up. Link moves in front of Perilet with the intention of
protecting her, but Rafulin only laughs and gathers auras from around him,
powering up for an attack.
A sudden blast of what appears to be sound waves are suddenly fired straight
at Link and Perilet, but Perilet pushes Link out of the way at the last moment.
She is hit by the powerful blast. She falls to the ground, her body darkned
and shadowy. Perilet was now in a coma.
Rafulin laughs again. "The Oracle of Shades has finally been captured!
My goal of my people ruling Spectriom will soon be complete!"
Link tries to go after Rafulin again and Impa follows, but Rafulin only screechs
again and releases a powerful gust of wind with his wings. Both Link and Impa
are sent flying away far from the Town of Hues. Rafulin laughs once more
and flies away with the unconsious Perilet.
Rafulin soon arrives at a tall tower far in the west, which is surrounded
by a ring of nothing but pits, providing no access to anyone without wings.
With another powerful flap of the wings, the child demon soars to the
very top of the tower with the Oracle still in his claws. Raising
his arms in the air and taking all of the aura from his surroundings, he
sends them plummeting down upon Perilet, surrounding her
in a completely black orb, which then releases its grasp and returns
to Rafulin. Her powers had now been stolen from her.
"With the Oracle of Shades captured and her powers now in my possession,
I now have complete reign over all of Spectriom's colors!" He screeched
in triumph. "This world is far too bright for my kind. May all of the colors
of the lands fade away and darkness consume all! No longer will we have to
hide in the shadows!!"
And with those very words, everyone within Spectriom began to see a disturbing
change. First red turned to black, orange to grey and yellow to white.
Eventually all of the colors of the lands have suddenly faded away. Everything
was monochrome. People and creatures alike began to panic. Without colors,
many of them also grew very depressed.
Meanwhile, Link awoke to find himself in a forest grove. Impa was there
with him. Impa already knows what is going on and explains to Link. Impa
is also in fact Princess Zelda's nurse who came after hearing that darkness
was slowly approaching Perilet, and had came with the instruction to take
Perilet to Hyrule. Unfortunately Impa had flew into the bark of a tree
and had ended up injuring herself quite badly.
"Link, if the Triforce on your left hand is real, then you may be the hero
chosen by the gods to save Perilet and Spectriom. Please go to the Maku Tree
near the Town of Hues and deliver my message."
Link was instructed to take the path through the rest of the maze-like forest
to the Town of Hues, with the warning that several of the paths were blocked
by tree-like doors. As he ventured through he managed to find a few keys
needed to unlock the 'tree doors' and also found The Woodland's Blade. It was nothing
like the Master Sword, but he knew that would need a sword to get pass the
tests and trials that awaited him.
When Link had arrived to the Town of Hues, he found everyone there still in
shock and afraid of the colorless darknesses, others very depressed as they
took their time to take down all of the decorations they had earlier. The Maku
Tree is supposedly near the town, but Link discovers that the Maku Tree is
beyond a river and the bridge is broken. After solving a puzzle of sorts,
Link crosses the now fixed bridge and finds The Maku Tree - a male sproutling.
The Maku Tree, like many others, had grown depressed over the loss of colors.
Yet he still has hope and is glad to see that Link has arrived. The Maku Tree says
that Rafulin is the young prince of The Keeslia, bat-like people who dwell
in the darkness and hate the light more than anything else. But with the
Oracle of Shades now captured, the land of Spectriom has lost all of its
colors and the light that provides these colors. The only things that haven't
been touched yet are the eight Essences of Color, which will return some
of the light and color when in the possession of one with a pure heart. And as
always, it is up to Link to find them and to save the day.
When Link retrieves the first Essence of Color, he sees a change. The outside
of the dungeon is now in color, and so is himself. The
Maku Tree explains that some of the color is returning thanks to the retrieved
Essence, but the only way to fully return color would be to get all of the Essences
and rescue the Oracle of Shades. The Maku Tree forsees the next essence
calling and gameplay continues normally.
After getting the second essence, The Maku Tree this time forsees something
within the heavens. Once Link arrives there, he discovers a tall tower holding
up a glass-like orb at the very top. A Wind Tribe who lives in these cloudy
tops explains that this is The Prism Tower, which stands in the east where
the sun rises. When the orb is wet from rain drops and the sun raises, the
prism shall produced beautiful rainbows which can then later be seen in distant
lands. However with Rafulin's hold over The Oracle of Shades, the sun no
longer produces light for the prism to create rainbows. The Wind Tribe,
like everyone else, is depressed but then they suddenly notice that Link
holds two Essences of Color and has the sacred mark on his left hand, and
suddenly they are filled with hope. The elder of the Wind Tribe explains that
the prism is actually the top floor of the tower, and within it rests a sacred
object that may aid Link. They give him the key to the tower and Link has
to climb it up. The tower works similar to the Savage Labyrinth/Cave of Ordeals.
At last, Link finds the sacred object. The Bell of Shades. This sacred bell
has the power to instantly give the world a single shade of color, but only
for a limited time. However the bell is dull and will not ring. The Maku Tree
suggests that Link takes this object to The Wind Tribe elder. The elder says
that the bell needs to be blessed with Essences of Color in order for it to
produce certain sounds. But the bell can only be blessed in the Glass Temple,
which rests on the far east back on Spectriom.
When Link arrives there, he gets the bell blessed with the two Essences.
Now the bell can produce two shades of color, Red and Orange. This means that
later on, the bell will be able to produce seven colors. The Bell of Shades
will be used mostly for puzzles involving the changing of colors, and will
even have to be used in dungeons. How these puzzles will work, I'm not sure yet.
