Thought: Prologue for 4-Swords = WW2?

Yeah I've been gone a while and decided to stop by again (hi, btw) to see what was going on with Zelda. Still hoping for a WW2 announcement but so far nothing I see. I will say however now that 4-swords+ looks like it has a good single player mode with a compitant interface I'll probably buy it and add it to my Zelda collection. Usually I don't bother with the gameboy ones unless it's emulated, still haven't gone through the Oracle games yet though.

One thing which struck me as odd is how it speaks of a Hero of Travels. Now to my knowledge this is the first time a prologue has given a 'Hero' title to a character which was in the backstory when no game exists. One thing we do know however is that only the Link characters have ever been given such titles. Hero of Time, Hero of Winds ect... and now we have this mysterous Hero of Travels. Certainly a poor title but think about it some more. The next game is exploring for a new country to make into the new Hyrule. Over sea, over land and possibily by air given the vast distances that the cel shading engine we saw in WW was capable of.

It's not a huge stretch to imagine that WW2 will have various forms of transportation and play out this backstory with the Four-Sword and the original battle against Vaati, the Mage of Winds. If so we STILL have that hole between Ganondorf being turned to stone and the new Zelda games. Also consider the tradiation whereby recent Zelda titles have had a 'Triforce legend' story for the original followed by a sequel that has no connection to the Triforce legend. Alot of the facts seem to suggest the WW sequel was planned in advance here, I'm not sure if in an interview one of the developers actually said that development started on WW2 before the original WW was released.

The concept of having 4 Links active at once in a 3D environment using the cel shading engine seen in WW is very appealing I must admit, the times when you had to escort and control characters in Wind Waker (Medli and the 'lil *****er' Korock) would seem to suggest they were building up the system for something more advanced. It was annoying switching characters like that however the combat AI in Wind Waker for enemies was quite advanced so I don't see why you couldn't have you controlling one of the four Links while the others were controlled by the AI. Maybe you set them to certain combat modes, attack, defend and support. Certain RPG games have been doing this for years calling them AI scripts.

This could be very interesting indeed, assuming all of these observations are accurate.

What do you mean "the tradiation whereby recent Zelda titles have had a 'Triforce legend' story for the original followed by a sequel that has no connection to the Triforce legend."? Only Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have done that so far.

But, I do think that you are right in that 'WW2' will be connected in some way to Four Swords. It seems a little too coincidental how similar the Hyrule Castle in FS+ looks to the one in TWW, that the FS+ Hyrule is surrounded by water and the Link in the FS games and WW look the same, when all previous Link's which have looked different (unless their stories fit in with each other).

Maybe you don't actually play the 'original FS legend', but at the end of the next WW, after Hyrule has been found/made/restored or whatever, the start of that legend is suggested, like Link finds the Four Sword.

Arrgh, too much speculation!!

Re: Thought: Prologue for 4-Swords = WW2?

OoT had MM, ALttP had Links Awakening. That just leaves the first two Zelda games which are ancient. However all of the recent Zelda titles since ALttP was followed by a non-triforce based story using the same engine as the original. The other clue about it being connected to WW2 is the graphics and sounds, notice in FS+ that they were very careful to capture the same styles of things like the smoke swirls and the new spin attack.
