Question they need a new kind of temple

I think the next zelda should have a different kind of temple like a electricity temple or a underground temple or something

Electricity is too "high tech" for the world Zelda is set in (which is roughly the medi-evil ages). The only electricity you'll see is from enemy attacks (like Agahimn or Chu-chus). Sure magnetism has been involved (not only in TP but also in OoS), but it wasn't involved soo much that it was centralized throughout the whole dungeon.

And yes, there have been countless underground temples in LoZ. I know you're trying to look for something new, but the truth is, there are very few elements to base temples off of, so things will be repeated: Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Ice (aka: frozen water).

How about this idea?
-Boss dungeons: Where the whole dungeon is the boss itself! Remember Facade in LA & OoS? Well he took over control of the whole room, why not have him extend his powers by taking control of the whole dungeon (and maybe even talk/taunt Link while he's going through). If Facade isn't your taste, then why not another Mazaal (from tMC) like boss?

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I think when he meant electricity... he meant thunder. Like there could be a very tall tower (dungeon) on a mountain peak that is constantly having thunderstorms 24/7. Some of the rooms could have open windows and *gasp* puddles that are dangerous when water is struck by lightning. A tool could be something like... the Thunder Rod or something, which sucks in lightning bolts for energy and can obviously fire bolts.

Four Swords (the one only available on the ALttP remake) had a dungeon set entirely in the clouds. While it may have been used before, it would be nice to see it return. Especially since not everyone has enough friends with ALttP remakes to experience Four Swords themselves. Myself included.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I think they should just trash the whole element theme behind the temples, maybe give them psychological themes behind them. I wouldn't mind seeing the next temples being based around the 7 stages of grief.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I'd love to see more dark temples like shadow temple, full of redeads, stalfos, wallmasters, stalchildren, gibdos, and maybe some new ones, like hands that come out of the grond and grab you by the legs. You need to shake the 'mote to get them off, or they'll pull you undrground, taking you back to the begginning, or just hurtin' ya.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I think if they redesigned the dungeon formula, it should be based around very diffrent things, like so:
Mind Temple: The whole point of this temple is physcological, it could even end up being a dream.
Pain: This temple would focus on pain. The more hearts you lose, the harder the temple gets, or maybe the floors could be electricuted, you couldn't walk without getting hurt.
Misery: Giant Maze, almost impossible to complete. The boss walks around the maze instead of being in one room, it would probably be a minotaur.
Sound: The entire dungeon is pitch black, and no lantern or light works. You have to follow noises that sound through the blackness, and the enimies would be Poes.
That's about it.

Cool, cool.

It's already harder to go through a temple when there are fewer hearts. If you want an emphasis on pain, it should be the other way around: a temple that rewards you for getting hurt.

Well, I give you this: it does sound miserable. So much so that I'm against it.

Unless you have Metroid Prime style sound-vision (and, of course, that would ruin the atmosphere), this would be hard to make work as a video game. You can't have sound play such an important role when it's not certain whether or not the person playing will be able to hear the game, for whatever outside reason.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I would despise a dungeon that wouldnt allow you to see at all.

The maze sounds interesting... but i would probably try and map it out. Once I think I have done just about everything, I would just stand in one spot and wait for the dumb boss.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

Nintendo needs to realize that though dungeons need to have themes, those themes do not have to be restricted to elements.

Hero's Tomb: Link travels into an ancient catacomb, said to be the burial ground of the Chosen Hero. The temple is constucted like a deserted monument, it was once grand, but has since fallen into decay and is now infested with monsters. As you progress through the temple, you learn about some of the trials faced by the Ancient Hero, and the puzzles reflect that.

At the end of the dungeon, you reach the hero's grave. His sword has been stabbed into the top of the headstone. The stone has no name, only the inscription "Here lies the one true Knight." This is where you fight the dungeon's boss.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

Would be cool with a temple that's really tall and stretches up to the skies. It would begin at land and when you get to the top it'd be very cloudy and you would be able to see Hyrule in it's entirety. Cool? There should also be a very epic boss there too :p

I see where your coming from. Your idea for the pain dungeon sounds way better than mine, its like you can't progress without hurting yourself on purpose, but you need to mantain your heart levels...
And yes, I now realize that a sound dungeon would be hard to pull off and would be impratical.
Thanks!

I think that if the next Zelda game has more temples like the Yeti's Mansion in TP, it would be awesome. That was one of my favorite temples I've ever seen and it was very unique.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

I just thought up the layout of the Mind Dungeon!
The dungeon starts out normal enough. Your underground, and the whole ground is sand. As you progress through the dungeon, odd things start to happen. The walls of the cavern start to fade away, and a sky begins appearing overhead. Then, the enimies start freaking out instead of attacking, and then attack you in desperation. Water begins flowing out of the ground through cracks and it floats upwards, slowly becoming a large pool of water. Then, a sun rises out of the water as a moon rises out of the ground. Later, the sun and moon begin heading towards eachother as the water "rises" out of the cieling. The sun and moon smash together, making the sky pure red. It begins raining meteors out of the water as it approaches. Soon, tentacles reach out of the rising water and grab at you. Eventaully, you make it to actaul doors. They stand with no walls, and you can walk around them without anything happening.
But each door leads to somewhere completely diffrent, each with something very creepy happening in it. As the world keeps becoming more and more insane, you reach what your map says is the boss door. Just then, the water rises over you and you find yourself walking in pure blackness. As you keep walking, a face appears before you.
It opens its mouth, and inside you can see the sun and moon crashing. You are then sucked into this vortex and find yourself surrounded by mirrors. They begin smashing, revealing a void beyond them. You eventaully reach a mirror where your reflection is Dark Link. He grabs at you and pulls you in. You fight him while floating in a crystal void, and you eventaully destroy him.
The crystal then explodes and you find yourself in a "normal" room like the first one. You think you can just walk like normal, but then the camera flips completely upside-down and you fall into the sky. As you reach the faroff cieling, it fades away into sky and the sun and the moon smash together, hitting you as you begin seeing the face from before appear above you. You wake up outside the dungeon entrance. The entrance then explodes and instead of a dungeon, all that's left is a pit. If you fall down the pit, you find yourself in a dirty room with a small child in it. He's dressed a bit like you, but he has the disturbing face from before. If you look around the room, there are childish drawing that show the diffrent rooms and stages of the entire dungeon. There's also a mirror on the wall, and if you look in it, you can see dark Link standing in the sandy room before you fall out. If you angle the mirror towards the child, you can see dark red energy spilling out of him, and his reflection looks ten times creepier and he's smiling instead of frowning. As you leave the room by opening the door, he says " Come back and play, Link..."
You then turn around to find him looking like his mirror reflection. An eiree laugh fills the room and you find yourself outside the pit again. This happenes whenever you go into the pit, by the way, its not a one time thing.

^^^ That's an awesome idea. I love it.

I don't have any ideas for a new dungeon yet, when I get one I'll post it up.

By the way, the face would look a bit like Majora's Mask's Moon, THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A GAME CONNECTION, it's just really, really freaky looking, and I'm cool with creepy. As shown by my mind temple. I admit it is a little...disturbed.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

As BGS mentioned...there are not many options when dealing with the elements. However, why not improve what has been done?

I think (Going on some of the Janitor's ideas) that having another shadow dungeon would be interesting. The whole purpose of the dungeon would be to illuminate the shadowed rooms. When I say shadowed rooms, they would be rooms that could not be explored until certain criterias were meet to illuminate those rooms, revealing key items and eventually corning the boss into one final room of darkness which you could then use the key item to enter and defeat that boss.

I also like the idea of an improved sky temple. TP had the right idea but they could have done so much more. I liked how the wind affected some aspect of the temple but your in the sky...why not thunder and lightning. I mean the whole time I had no feeling of panic or fear...the sky was just to peaceful.

Looking at the ideas of a different approach to dungeons. How about disorder. Im talking an insane version of the OOT water temple but with no water based them. Everything would be misconstrued, floors crumbling with no idea where they may fall in, doors on the roof which must be reached (bring back the fake doors from OOT that would hurt you.) So many possibilities.

Re: they need a new kind of temple

How about a mechanical dungeon? Where the entire place is a labyrinthian maze of moving gears, and even the positions of entire rooms can be uncertain as the machinery re-aligns the pathways. Where you can visibly see the normally-hidden workings that binds doors and traps to their respective switches hard at work as they are activated.

Basically, think the rotating room in the basement of the Forrest Temple in OoT meets the Tick Tock Clock level from Super Mario 64.

Ah, the Tick Tock Clock level...I remember spending many hours as a kid in that level, to this day I still think its hard.

I like your idea, you could go around collecting gears which have been stolen in order to fix the temple to its original self. Perhaps there could be several mini bosses that would hold the core gears.

Your idea also reminds me of the water temple in MM.

Maybe when you "fall" into the sky, if you look back the "sand" on the ground could end up being clouds! So, its like for the whole dungeon you where walking upside-down...
