Lightbulb Health meter vs. hearts

I was thinking today, and I considered how cool it would be to have a health meter rather than hearts (an option would be nice). Rather than having such a restricted range of damage that enemy attacks have, each attack performed by different enemies do different amounts of damage rather than each attack causing 1/2- 1 heart worth of damage.

You could still get heart containers from beating bosses and collecting heart peices, but rather than giving you another heart, it'd add a little more to your health meter.

What do you think?

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

It doesn't really matter to me.

I'll just pick one for the heck of it.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe...

Keep the hearts for the sake of some kind of repetition/familiarity.

Instead of worrying about attacks that could chomp away half your proposed health meter, why not have attacks that could just take away more than one heart?

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

Well, the hearts, if all 20 of them, are divided by 4ths (depending on the enemy that attacks you), meaning if the weakiest enemy attaced you, it'd do 1/4 a heart of damage, meaning link would have to get hit 80 times.

With a health meter, there's more room for different attacks, which means a more diverse challenge.

(off topic) I hope they bring the magic meter back)

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

That's the problem.

Zelda needs to be more difficult. TP was so easy, a retarded monkey could beat it

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

I always just considered the hearts a form of a meter. But... what can a meter do that the hearts cant? You seem to want the enemies to do more damage, well why cant it happen with hearts?

I guess i am just confused on why you would even need a meter?

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

It's also easier to get your hearts regenterated by picking up hearts. Also, how would you get more of a meter. As of now, you can raise your hearts by beating bosses and picking up heart pieces. It seems like a good idea but i stay stick with the hearts.

Hearts, but don't keep them to 1/4 pieces (except when it comes to pieces of heart), make them... flowing, you know, like a health bar but encapsled in hearts

Okay. You all don't have to get all pissed off at me. I made a SUGGESTION. You don't have to agree with me, but you certainly don't have to be jerks about it.

A heart meter would make the game a lot harder, which is what it needs sorely.

*just a thought*

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

*Laughs*

Instead of putting gameplay preferences at the inconvenience, the right way to make a game harder is to make the level design more challenging, and the enemies tougher. When you're looking for a challenge, you'f find something harder to do, not close your eyes doing it. xD

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

That was a mistake, and you know it.

What's so wrong with a health meter? would it kill you to have the option, when you could just play with hearts, while other people want something new and harder?

Nintendo needs to make the next game a hell of a lot harder than TP. A health meter, along with more tough enemies and more difficult puzzles would all make that happen

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

Keep hearts, just have enemies that do I dunno... 3 5 or 10 hearts damage like the should. (If Link gets hit by a 20lbs darknut sword, methinks he should take more damage than 1/80th of his life)

Re: Health meter vs. hearts

Keep the hearts. Make harder enemies. Simple.

As Tally said, if Link fails to block a swing of a Dark Nut's sword, he should be prepared to lose 7-10 hearts, not 1.
