Ambidextrous Link
The Wii version of TP was mirrored just so Link could be right-handed like most of the population. This idea, however, does not satisfy left-handed people, or fans who want to see Link being left handed. The next console Zelda title will probably have one-to-one sword control, since they're putting that it Wii Sports resort. How can both right-handed, and left-handed people enjoy this?
My solution is for Link to be ambidextrous, that is, being able to use both hands. The player would choose which hand Link would use to wield his sword. Nothing has to be mirrored, which is a good thing. The player could also choose which hand Link uses to shoot arrows, but I don't think that really affects gameplay. All throughout the game, however, I would prefer if Link's ToC always appeared on his left hand, like always. |

Re: Ambidextrous Link
Why be ambidextrous, when you can have one sword in each hand?!
It never really bothers me. Heck, Link could have three hands, and have two swords in each for all I care. People who use the opposite hand get over it...usually. |

Re: Ambidextrous Link
You do realize the reason they mirrored the game when they changed him to be right handed is because of what hand the enemies hold their weapon in?
Two right handed people fighting have the chance to block the others' attack with their shield. However, if one is right handed and one is left handed, when facing each other both shields would be on the same side (as will be the swords). This means that shields are practically useless, and swordplay would be difficult. Furthermore, the entire game was mirrored i'm guessing because it would take too much work to just flip every single enemy. So they'd have to stick with one hand, normal and mirror mode, or spend a LOT of time making a mode with normal handed enemies, then the alt handed enemies. The latter would delay the game's release a lot.

Making Link ambidextrous is actually a good idea. Therefore lefties can have the same advantage as righties, and Zelda purists can play the "canon" game.

Re: Ambidextrous Link
when you think about it, link is already ambidextrous, to an extent
even though he holds the sword with one hand, he uses both of his through out all of his tools

Re: Ambidextrous Link
I never heard of the game being mirrored because of how the enemies were. If that was so then how come the GC version of it wasn't mirrored? But still, with what I predict will be one-to-one sword control, Nintendo should allow the player to choose which of Link's hands should hold his sword.

Re: Ambidextrous Link
I like Link left handed, but that's probably just because I'm left handed...
Anyway, when playing TP, I hold the remote in the right and the nunchuck in the left cuz that's how I learned it, and it doesn't seem awkward to me. I say make the new Link a lefty and let people hold the remote however they want. I just want a new Zelda game soon. Power to lefties!!!! |
