Western Zelda

What would you guys think of a Zelda game that took place in a Hyrule version of the Wild West? I just randomly got the idea when I was reading some thread about a steampunk Zelda. I'm kinda joking, but just imagine it: Link's cloths a bit more earthy colored, a bit of 5 o'clock shadow, and two revolvers made from a melted down Master Sword. It would kinda be like the Forgotten Village thing in TP where you had to kill all the goblins, but a whole game. I know it will never happen, but I think it would be kinda cool.

No. That would be going down the modern futuristic road which we don't want.

Zelda needs to stick to its medieval formula. Its not a Western game at all. Its a fantasy type of game.

If you want to play a Western game play some cowboy game instead of wanting to make Link into a cowboy.

Re: Western Zelda

Considering how I feel about westerns and how I find them completely generic I'm gonna have to say no on this one. I'm not totally against a futuristic zelda game(the wild west is far from futuristic). It just feels like an unnecessary turn.

Re: Western Zelda

Sorry, but my good friend Kishiro Diablo already made this thread :

http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...est-zelda.html

I'm not a big fan of wild west themes, but it seems Aounuma is fond of it. In Wind Waker, some of the music sounds like it was ripped from a wild west movie. The ghost town part in Twilight Princess features a wild western moment.
A wild west theme may not be something completely impossible, and it may actually work out in a way we can't simply imagine.

Please don't write "we." Many people, including myself, actually want go down the "modern futuristic road."

Also, I'd like you to prove that LoZ has always had a "medieval formula." Also, you seem to be implying that since it is the case that LoZ runs with a "medieval formula" then it is a fantasy game. Is it the case that a wild western or futuristic setting would immediately turn it into a real game?

I think skeletonband was saying that, it's always had a more medieval feel with swords, bows, ball and chains, horses as transportation. There's no cars, electricity, guns, computers. So.... you can't really PROVE it has a medieval formula, it's just its technology is closer (but not the same... the canons for example) to medieval times than to modern. And you can argue that if you want, but I wont bother.

There is electricity in Hyrule. Some games have featured phones and jukeboxes, which run on electricity.

i was actually a bit offended when he said "we"
i really want a futuristic zelda
just to clarify things, when we say 'futuristic zelda,' do we mean futuristic from our time or links time? because i mean from links time, which is why i usually say 'steampunk zelda'
which is kinda what i want

i havnt got any sources for it, but links crossbow training was originally meant to be western themed
so suck on that haters
also, who said western themes were generic? are you crazy!
the medieval fantasy formula is a billion kazillion times more generic! there have been like 5 big time western games in the last 3 years
i wonder how many fantasy/medieval style games there have been in that time?
and you know what, untill oot there hadnt been a 3d zelda game. it was a 2d game with a 2d formula! and look how that turned out!
untill ww, they hadnt had an island theme, and that turned out pretty good. the best games in the zelda series are the ones that have experimented! look at all the zalda games, and tell me that isnt true!

EDIT: to clarify, i dont want a western theme just because i personally dont like westerns
i cant think of an actual reason for not having one though (it might limit the appeal or something)

Wow, I had so much fun reading your responses. Most of you hate me so much I'm sure, but this was hilarious. This is such a stupid idea, I just wanted to see what everyone would say, and it was so worth it.

But seriously, steampunk Zelda, that would be kickass.

And Light Knight, yeah I do kinda rock, thanks for noticing.

There's a reason I feel westerns are generic. It's because I've been exposed to A LOT of western themed media. It can and has gotten pretty generic. I agree that the medieval theme is also just as generic though. So really why jump out of one generic setting to another. I also feel it's just an unnecessary shift. Just my opinion.

Re: Western Zelda

Seriously, LOL.

Wild west is my least favourite setting for anything. I'd rather Zelda went over the top sci-fi, and that idea wouldn't be on the top of my preferred list.

fair enough
i personally have been exposed to very little western media in my life, so i havnt got that feeling
so lets not move to another generic setting. how about steampunk or something different
thats what i always wanted anyway

Re: Western Zelda

If they are to use Wild Western effects in Zelda, at least they should not try to overdo it.

Next thing, Link will have revolvers and his famour green hat will be replaced by crocodile dundee leather hat.

He already has the horse and the Hidden Village was more of the Wild West than an abandoned Sheikah Village.

I want them to take a step back into the magical worlds of the forest and everything else that made Zelda games to be this famous since the day they released the very first game.

Re: Western Zelda

MM had enough modern-ish technology junk. That's the kind of tech I'd like to see in Zelda.

I'm currently in the state of lulz with idea of Clint Eastwood playing Link.
We'd have the Good, Link.
The Bad, Ganondorf,
Don't know who the Ugly would be. I guess it could be a new character. We couldn't make Zelda the ugly... Maybe Tuco really could be in Zelda!

Anyway, no. I wouldn't like to see a Western Zelda. The hidden village in TP was enough Western I needed in Zelda.

Exactly
I even had enough time once to put together a little collage of modern touches in Termina
It's kind of freaky when you realize this stuff.

Re: Western Zelda

Indeed Termina's technology was great to add in a Zelda game.

But for the western environment?

No.

Re: Western Zelda

Western Link = ew. I'd rather eat a shoe.

If Nintendo made a modern Zelda, like, modern as in 21st century Zelda, there would be a lot more fanboys/girls at Nintendo's door.
