Re: Sandbox Zelda

God, you guys are so closed minded.
*facepalms*

It doesn't have to be a Zelda title, I'm just stressing the idea of a sandbox type game in Hyrule. Right now, we only know of Hyrule in Zelda titles, so that's what I used.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

Hyrule really isn't interesting.
They would need to first introduce a much larger world in a main narrative game before they could even think about releasing a "walk around Hyrule doing pretty much nothing important" game.

i hope they do this

hyrules always been an open world anyway, so why this thread?
they should never let you affect the main storyline, or choose a path of good or evil, that just isnt zelda.

why would hyrule be in anything other than a zelda title?

Re: Sandbox Zelda

Maybe if Hyrules such a big deal they could expand Termina and put the sandbox game there.

Because it's still part of the Zelda Universe. Duh.

See, now this guy thinks.

Really, are you people so scared of playing a Zelda that isn't just fight evil and do side quests? It doesn't matter if it has an established narrative or not, a sandbox Zelda would open up new possibilities for your 'regular' Zelda.

but what would the spin-off be?

its not about hyrule, its about the zelda franchise
we havnt seen a good non-tingles rosie rupeeland spinoff, have we?
so sure, sandbox hyrule
but its already sandbox
what you want is one that lets you have choices in the story
and i cant see nintendo doing that
so talk about it all you want, i just know its not going to happen

Re: Sandbox Zelda

I wouldn't like to be allowed to choose your allegiance, because, as Ichabod Lark said, Zelda is about good beating the stuffing out of evil.

It would kinda destroy one of the purposes of the series if Nintendo did that.

But I would really like an open, maybe even sandbox-style areas of the game.

The game would certainly last longer. :)

The first thing I thought about when I saw this was the concept of the first Zelda game.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

I think they could do this in Hyrule, but during the time of the war before OoT. You choose what side to be on for the war, and then there would be no "Zelda is about good beating evil", it would just be a persons different view of who's good and who's evil.

We have no idea who the hyrulians fought with during the war. I doubt it was ganondorf though.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

Hey, a Sandbox-style Zelda game would actually be a nice push to bring casual gamers into the Zelda universe. It may not have to be part of the main storyline, and it wouldn't have to star Link, but being set in Hyrule would be fun. I'd play it. Sure, you may say its sacrilege...but I don't care. The Zelda games SHOULD broaden their horizons a bit, and this would be a good way to do it.

Think about it. Fable 1 was very similar to Zelda in that you had very specific areas that you could explore around the world of Albion. Now, in Fable 2, Albion is more open, and it's done up more like the Elder Scrolls games, or like Grand Theft Auto. If Fable can change its formula a bit, Zelda could too. Of course, it wouldn't keep the Sandbox formula for all the games. Hardcore gamers would assassinate the game producers.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

What I hoped for, is at least some sort of open world in the next game. Where you don't have to follow A to B. And where you never, or rarely, are forced to go somewhere NAO. *points to the Midna is ded! sequence* Catch my drift?

OR how about having a Story Mode and a Sandbox Mode? So we all can be happy. Story mode covers the next chapter in the Zelda story in regular fashion, and Sandbox is a non-canon game where you can choose forces and be with good or evil, make your character, help or hinder other people's fates, shape the game etc.

Getting more people interested in Zelda would be nice, but I hope Nintendo won't design the next game, sandbox or not, with casuals in mind. Make it accessible, but don't bring the quality down please.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

No IMO. Idea in theory is good, world should be open, however I wouldn't get the feeling of "The Legend of Zelda" playing with any random protagonist. I prefer a game straight in my face, doing puzzles, and getting some awesome end credits.

Actually, if they had other heroes that are contemporary with Link in any Zelda era, that would probably do well to expand the Zelda universe even further. It would become an immersive world and more Zelda staples would be set.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

That would ruin the point.

The story is about the spirit of heroism manifesting itself in a single person to defend the world against the rise of evil.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

No, Link?. (?)

I don't think I said that I would prefer a random hero over Link in my post.
That's why I said I'd like a Sandbox Mode with the next Zelda instead.

Sandbox Mode would be for just goofing around with a character you make, perhaps online, and generally wouldn't really occur in the Zelda canon.

But if I had to choose between a Story or a Sandbox in the next zelda, I would have to choose Story. I can wait for a more open zelda, or a zelda with some sandbox qualities.

(though I'd rather an open zelda nao. >_<)

Re: Sandbox Zelda

Story will always take precedence.

The hell is the point of walking around Hyrule doing nothing?

Nothing stops people from doing it now, except for the fact that it's boring.

Re: Sandbox Zelda

Agreed.

I'll take story over sandbox, mainly for the reason that I would like to know what will Ganon do next, and thwart him using Link.

...and if there's a hookshot in it's water-related temple.

BUT if I could have both, then sandbox, if implemented, should have lots of things to make you WANT to run around Hyrule!

...I has no cake nao, it seems. :<

Re: Sandbox Zelda

There simply is no reason to do sandbox, wouldn't make sense.

In a game like Fable it makes perfect sense, because they are one shot games, no continuing overarching storyline, no main characters.

Zelda is simply too established.
