P1 doesn't depend on P2, but P2 helps anyway.
Now how can this work in a Zelda game? This is my idea: Link is an adult and he has a younger brother that he carries on his back for some reason. This younger brother has a slingshot and an unlimited supply of seeds that he can shoot at enemies. These seeds would do a small amount of damage. The screen would be divided into two halves. The top half would be like normal 3-D Zelda game and the bottom half would be a 1st person view of what the younger brother is seeing. Player 2 would aim (probably with a Wii remote) at the screen to shoot. If the younger brother gets hit, Link will take the damage.
If you have a younger sibling who thinks that Zelda is too tough but still wants to play, this game may be for you. And if you don't, then you can still play alone if you want. Anyone else got any ideas for a game like this?

I like this entire idea. The Wii was supposedly named after "we", and yet most games are pretty much single player affairs (I could also point out the poor online play here, but that is somthing for another day). So, yeah, I like the idea that other players coud just hop right in. It likens to co-op games where a 2nd player just had to press Start and they could drop right in.
It would be hard to implant this in Zelda, but what you describe would work very well. The brother thing is a little odd, but having a toddler with a sligshot on your back in some ways actually fits in with style of Zelda, when you picture it. Might be seen as a form of child abuse to leave him behind whenever a 2nd player isn't there, however
I also respect what you have to say about younger siblings playing but finding it too hard. Me and my 7 year olf brother play Mario Galaxy together somtimes, and it is nice having that 2nd player imput where I can help him out of the harder levels.
