Female Link or customazible Link?

[rant]There is no pleasing anybody on these forums. They either complain that the hardcore fans won't like it, or the new people won't like it. There is a happy medium that nobody has posted about. You want to keep your "traditional" Link? Make him like you think he should be made (given the game lets you customize Link/Linkette ). You want girl Link? Make her. Like stated before, there are about 5 Links in the whole franchise, so why not get to choose who the next Link is? It wouldn't take from the story at all. I also don't see how this would take away from the character development. You are just developing a different character than I am is all.[/rant]

Well Link is from a family bloodline of the superior Hylian Knights of the past and I would guess that they are all men.

Perhaps the bloodline is similar to the Gerudos giving birth to one man every hundred years or so. Only a male can become a hero. There might have been females born in this bloodline, but they only carry the trait. Only the male is affected by it.

Well, we have no in-game proof of that. If you can't prove that statement, then there is nothing that says a female hero couldn't be the main character of a new Zelda game.

How about we go down the Pokemon route and have both Link and female Link in the same story? That way you both save the world, but the character you play as beats the final boss. Two incarnations of the same soul at the same time? Who knows, this isn't the real world, a lot is possible. Could be a problem with the Master Sword though, they could share...

I was saying that it's better to have a female character that isn't just Link with boobs than to... well, yeah. You get the point. That's why I'm saying to have somebody more along the lines of Aba being the female hero.

Also, I like that two-hero thing. Maybe the one you control gets the Master Sword, and the other gets something else that's a really cool weapon? That could work instead of sharing a sword, which is pretty weird...

And bosses that take both Links to defeat!

Unless it's co-op, I don't see that working in 3-D.
In my opinion, that splits the middle too much. I've had to play a male Link in every single game to date, why shouldn't the people who somehow despise playing as a girl, have to put up with a change for once? (I'd think the males would want a girl MC, honestly)

Co-op? The game would have to be built for it, not all Zelda games turn out like Four Swords

No, I think Link should stay as Link... a youngish elf with either blond or brown hair, a tunic, and an odd hat. Although he is supposed to be an extension of the player, the fact that he isn't customizable gives him a bit more of a mystique.

It's kind of like Gordon Freeman off of the Half-Life games; he wouldn't work as well if he were customizable.

Thats because Gordon is one person. Also Link isn't meant to have any mystery (how would looking the same most of the time be mysterious?)

You see everything through his eyes. It's an FPS, it doesn't really matter what the character looks like.

I wasn't thinking of a co-op, I was just thinking of the character just attacking. OK, how about just switching between the two at different points, female Link goes into the places such as hard to reach places (she can probably jump quite high, as she would be lighter), and places where Link can't get through, Link can do the running in screaming and not thinking about the consequences.

Co-op Zelda would be cool, I think I posted some ideas about that some months ago. But I would prefere Zelda & Link Co-op rather then some unexplained "Link twins".
