Speech

Well, we know Link shouldn't speak in any of the Zelda games, but what about the other characters? Should they be allowed to speak? Would that ruin Zelda for us? What do you think?

Ya, I think thats what they wanted.

And it did work for Metroid Prime 3, but there wasn't that much talking.

Re: Speech

Well I don't think that there is much use for Link to speak. Afterall, Shigeru Miyamoto did say that he wants to limit Link from talking because they represent the player. Link is a link of the person playing him.

He wants us to imagine the way we want to imagine Link to be without giving him his own personality. That's why he hardly speaks, but shows facial expressions of how we would react in those situations.

Re: Speech

I like the idea for voice acting. Perhaps, though, it should be limited to cutscenes or other important dialouge, otherwise it really wouldn't feel quite the same, always listening to people talk instead of reading text.

As for Link, I wouldn't mind him saying little things like "Yeah" or "No" or "Uhhhh..." or "Hey!" or anything little and/or insignificant like that. I mean, he did verbally say "C'mon!" in WW, and that didn't ruin that "link" with Link for me.

He said Link shouldn't talk, I agree. Though all others can talk, fine with me.

^ Yeah Link did say a few words, or should I say mumble. But it doesn't really bring out a personality of who he is. It's more of how he reacts to his environment.

In WW, "C'mon" was the only English word that he said. But then again, it doesn't reflect a proper personality for us to examine of who Link really is as a person.

^ I suppose leaving them out for voice acting too. The only thing that I want to stay with Ganondorf is his famous evil laughter and Zelda's gasps.

The thing is, sometimes when there is voice acting, not everyone is satisfied and sometimes they can do an awful job that can ruin everything.

So, you're saying there should be no voice acting?

I always get bored having to read all that text. I don't know why they haven't implanted voice acting yet. I want to hear talking, not just grunts and weird noises.

Re: Speech

Having witnessed the voice acting as implemented in games like Assassin's Creed and others, I can say with absolute certainty that no Zelda game has come as close to immersing me into is world as well as games that liberally employ voice-acting. Hearing characters' conversations in the background and being able to pick up on information without an obligatory cutscene/text box dictating it creates a more "real" environment, and I'd like to see how well this would be employed in the Zelda universe.
