Online Zelda Announced?

So yes, the possibilities are pretty endless. It could be anything from a full out MMO to maybe just a little online game they're thinking of including in the next zelda....DISCUSS!

Ooohh, Lovely!! It's about time if you ask me, but thats my opinion. In my opinion although an online would flop as a Zelda game, unless it was a major event in Hyrule's History (Hylian War?). Though trademarks get registered for the future, look at the Chrono Series, they registered a trademark and it got dropped. So you never know. But I look forward to it. Whatever it may be.

Hrm.. that's a really interesting find. I doubt that Nintendo would do something like that though... Then again... Link's Crossbow Training...

All right I cracked the code its probably something dumb the official Zelda website (The Legend of Zelda is also called Zelda universe) is making. Also would explain why it's online.

There is a possibility that it's part of the official website, then again Smash Bros Dojo is not on the ESRB website and it was much more user involved than the Zelda site.

Yes, there's us and then there's the link that you posted.

What I was saying is that while there is a chance that the announcement might just be a new component to the other Zelda Universe, there are other official Nintendo websites that are much more user involved than that site and those websites aren't on the ESRB board so I don't see what would make that Zelda website in need of an ESRB rating. I mean not even Camp Hyrule had an ESRB rating.

Hmmm...I don't think they should make an entire Zelda devoted to online play, but it would be cool if there was a fighting online mode in a future Zelda. Create a charecter, choose their race and weapons. Fight other players!

If there were to be an online Zelda, I'd be pretty worried. Nintendo has little experience with online and they have practically no experience in the MMO field. A four swords like thing could work out pretty nicely but if a MMO were to happen, I would hope Nintendo gets some help from someone who has a lot of experience with online.

i think they should make it rp offline and then have the option of online

I'm cool with the idea of an online 'duel' mode, as well as something similar to PH's online, and maybe even friend code co-op, (as there's no point in co-oping with people you don't know) but Zelda is not the game I want to be turned into an MMO. Everyone wants every game to turn into an MMO, the idea is always, "the more players, the better!" but that's not always the case. MMO's tend to ruin:

Gameplay- transfering information via Internet creates a lot of lag which would comprimise good real-time gameplay.

Story- An MMO creates a world where everyone gets to be the hero, and therefor no one is. There can't be an epic battle between Ganon and Link because no one could play as Link. There could never be any quest which would set you apart from every other player.

Level design- Zelda prides itself on its mix of challenging fights and engaging puzzles. Puzzles would be difficult to pull off in an MMO environment. How would the game react if someone other than you hit a switch to open the door? Even if the door didn't open for you, you could easily watch someone solve the puzzle and follow in their footsteps.

Atmosphere- The Zelda atmosphere is one of seclusion. This can't exist in an MMO. You'll never be the lone adventurer in a dungeon. Also, the atmosphere will be destroyed when someone solves a puzzle and walks through a door way that, for some reason, you cant get through until you solve the puzzle they just solved.


Though Zelda would be a bad MMO, for all of these reasons, if Nintendo decided to make any of their games MMOs I would go for Pokemon. It's perfect. The combat is turnbased, so you don't have to worry about lag, there's already basically no story, the puzzles aren't super important, so it wouldn't matter if someone ran you through them, and the game is supposed to make you feel like you're just another trainer who rises up, so it would actually add to the atmosphere.

I know Nintendo is so lame this is impossible, but the next game should be X-Box Live style. Their could be capture the flag mode and then a everyone for themselves free for all. Their could be a leaderboard for the top 10,000 players with points for battles won, lost, and tied. You could play as Link, but maybe Ganondorf and Zelda could be playable too. You could have transportation using a horse, creating horseback battle scenes. Swords, Bombs, Arrows, Boomerangs, Hookshots. It would be great!
