Is it time for change?

The Zelda formula has been the same for the past years. Ever since OoT, games have been pretty much the same except with some gimmick (masks, sailing). It always follows the same basic formula:

1. As Link, get 3 special objects, collecting items along the way.
2. Get the mastersword.
3. Get 6 or so more special items, collect more items along the way.
4. Defeat Ganon.

This formula has been worked to death which brings me to tell you: "Is it time for Zelda to change?"

Re: Is it time for change?

Overall, yes. Fundamentals, no. Keep the medieval timeframe and the unsung hero, but do away with Ganon and Zelda having little to no character development.

The medieval timeframe has been broken already with TWW and PH. It's not hard to break away more or completely from there.

But, yeah. Almost everyone is convinced that the series needs to take a different road.

Re: Is it time for change?

The Zelda forumla I don't mind. I'd like them to change the series into a more open world that would be fun and challenging to explore, but they can keep the formula for all I care. And never get rid of Ganon/dorf. He's an icon.

Re: Is it time for change?

The way the game plays out should change, but the time frame and character should stay the same.

Maybe add voice acting (as long as Link doesn't talk).

While I agree with you there are some small corrections I want to make.

More so since aLttP, as that's the game which started the trend.

While sailing was in fact added to a standard Zelda game, the masks were focused on in MM, a very non-standard structure for Zelda.

While that is the formula used for all the main storyline console games since aLttP, many games have used a different structure. MM, OoA, OoS, tMC, LoZ, and AoL, among others.

Anyway, I don't want to be playing the same basic game forever.

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN

Anyway, I'd like every game to not use the formula, but Zelda should keep the same setting and gameplay.

Re: Is it time for change?

LoZ FPS FTW so many letters

but they rly do need to change, add some voice acting too
i think Zelda needs a bigger part in teh story, make her a playable character or somthing.

Am I the only one to think that sailing and masks make a much bigger difference than a differently structured set of goals?

Re: Is it time for change?

i think they should make it more like final fantasy games.

now i'm not just saying "i want final fantasy XIV, zelda", i mean this:

- longer gameplay, two discs?
- a lot more side quests which would be useful
(eg. modern day zelda equiv. would be "do some trading then a temple for a SQ)
- like the second post says, a much better developed zelda - it's names after her.
also the main reason why new players think they play as zelda, not developed.
- more land to explore, but still structured. none of this oblivion random stuff.

those are my views
of course, don't change the heart of zelda to and RPG like FF.

Re: Is it time for change?

Even though i love OoT it is tiring seeing the same thing almost every time (even though technicly it was Lttp that started it) I want to see something brand new. Something a little bit more advanced technology-wise but no where near modern. And more character development. That was some thing that was awesome in MM.

I liked them, and thought they were cool, but others just call them gimmicks. I don't understand why.
