ive seeen this idea mentioned quite a few times, but no threads devoted to it. so: do you like the idea of a steampunk zelda?
personally, i think nintendo has proven to us that it can introduce new things to the series without completely screwing up, so yeah, i would like it. zeppelins and trains and steam engines and that sort of stuff. itd be cool

Re: steampunk zelda?

The Gorons in TP were quite developed when it comes to technology in the mines, so it would not be complete strange.

Re: steampunk zelda?

I'm not a big fan of this. I actually like the mideival feel that the games give, but if implemented properly, it could be ok. But it would have to be very primitive. I don't ever want to see a zelda game that takes place now with all different guns and stuff...

Anyway, I'd like a steampunk Zelda game among my other preferences. It would be interesting to see how it would play out.

Re: steampunk zelda?

obviously, a steampunk zelda wouldn't have modern technology, Great Panda, i'm just saying that if they're having Hyrule develop slightly further in time, who's to say that they won't take it too far, y'know?

and if i missed your point, then woud you like to clarify a little more?

Re: steampunk zelda?

the more i think about this idea, the more i like it.

at first i thought no no no. but i'd absolutely love steam engines in this.
to see a railway track with old trains would be amazing to see, i think.
it would give it a happier feel, and if not i'd want them to bring that/
not some dank old trains that look ruined, it'd have to be uplifting.

also, musket's might be okay. maybe something like this, but more zelda:

http://craigslistchina.org/arts_craf.../Craft_Gun.jpg

i'm kinda going for a "short-musket" with some gold metal kinda thing.
i'd be happy with that in zelda, sure but keep the swords! haha

No? Who had? Linebeck were a steamboat. (steam! It's already steampunk!)
Also, Steampunk is not that they simply move forth in time, but rather that steam and technology is not the same as in our world.

Steampunk is weird. It's basically taking some of the technologies of today and making it to where they're powered by steam rather than electricity. What I was getting at is that Nintendo wouldn't take Zelda that far into the future. They're not stupid, and they know good and well that Zelda + Guns = Doing it wrong. I don't think they'd take the Zelda series far beyond steampunk. (Of course, this doesn't go without saying that I wouldn't play a Zelda game with guns. I wouldn't want it to be that way, but I'm a Zelda fan, and if it has the Zelda title on it, I'm playing it.)

Re: steampunk zelda?

I've always been a big fan of steampunk, and I think Zelda set in a steampunk universe would just be phenomenal. I just love the dual technology concept.

Re: steampunk zelda?

well, it's a fine line with guns.

i'd be kinda fine with it if it was like perhaps..
a wooden gun, and it shoots bullet 'things' more like a slingshot, not like light speed.
and for the love of god, no moderns guns. omg lol, the legend of matrix: zelda reloaded.

uh uurrrhh.

Re: steampunk zelda?

^^^ haha yeah i'd love that. and even a crossbow alone would be fine.
but another idea, like in that fake interview, a deku mullet shooting deku nuts.
i don't really like the idea of gunpowder though, baah.

fair enough. i have to admit, I'd likely play a zelda game with guns in it too, although i probably wouldn't be overly happy about the decision. But you're right. its not like Miyamoto is going to be dumb about it and let them take that kinda thing too far.

still, I can't say I'm in favor of the idea, but I don't have too much of a problem with it either as long as they don't get too carried away.

I dont think you will ever have to worry about Nintendo getting to carried away.

i am liking this idea alot, i keep thinking it would be cool for zelda to be set farther back, or a little ahead, timewise.
