Lightbulb Idea for Zelda sequel

What if hyrule when steampunk and the world consist of floating islands high in the sky? I can imagine airship battles with a Zelda feel in it.

No...just no...

What would destroy the world of Hyrule that would shatter it so much? Ganondorf wouldn't shatter it. He would want to rule it.

And Zelda is not an airship type game...if you really want an airship type game that is like Zelda in a way play Baten Kaitos or Final Fantasy.

Re: Idea for Zelda sequel

A world of floating islands? Have you been watching a show called Skyland or something?

It sounds pretty unique. I like the idea as Final Fantasy 3 on DS was played on a world of floating islands and it was one great adventure and storyline to follow and witness.

The trouble is, if this was the case, how would Link travel to each island if floating ships never existed? Would Epona become a unicorn? Or would be have something else in the aids of flying? This is where I start to doubt and dislike the idea.

That is a strange and unusual idea. It's intriguing, but strange. Don't get me wrong though, I like the idea of floating islands, but I just don't think I would ever want to see that in the Zelda series.

Re: Idea for Zelda sequel

Maybe have the land still intact but have some floating islands here and there. Maybe reach them by beanstalk (using Magic Beans of course, haha.) or by some secret staircase...or something else...

Better recommendation: Skies of Arcadia. One of the best airship type games which in fact takes place in a world matching Chaobreaker's description.

In fact I highly recommend that everyone on the board who likes the premise of exploration via Airship buy the game Skies of Arcadia Legends released for the Game Cube (originally released for the Dreamcast but we all know that story). GO! Go and find it! I promise, the game will have you wanting the sequel that Sega has yet to deliver!

As for the idea of a Zelda Game...I'm not sure it would work. But I'm sure people scoffed at the idea of a Sail Ship Zelda Game before TWW.

And people scoff at it now.... Boring traveling is not liked much by many gamers. There needs to be action. I wouldn't mind a Zelda where you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery, but others would. As long as there is a lot of action to keep you up on your toes (like a PH-style plan route, then fight) with not only a cannon or gun, but some close range attacks with Link running around the ship to defend it. In fact, just set a time limit for the ship to travel, and give Link normal control to run around the ship. He can use his own bow and arrows, or walk up to the cannon, which is slower but more powerful and accurate.
