Link, the journeyman

What if Link was on a trip from one Kingdom to another. During this trip, Link would be riding Epona on a trail through several other kingdoms. Along the way, Link runs into soldiers from countries that don't like Hyrule, bandits, and a group of enemies who cause a lot of trouble. The group of enemies would be the main antagonists in the game. Link goes through many villages, each of them different.

That group of enemies that I mentioned earlier are kind of like a crime organization. They're trying to cut off pathways between kingdoms, which will reduce trade and communication. They've also taken over several towns in the process. They charge high taxes on the people of the towns that they've taken over. All throughout the game, Link learns more and more about these people. It turns out that they're after some kind of magic power thing. At the end of the game, Link fights the leader, who has grown in power because of the magic thing.

Many of you may think that this game would be linear and I did too. But then I found a way for it to be less linear. There would be multiple pathways in the game that Link could take. Here's an example of what I mean: Let's say that a man agrees to clear a path for Link by destroying a boulder. There happens to be two paths each with its own boulder. Link can only choose one of them for now. Each path leads to a different village and dungeon. Later in the game, the Link will be able to choose the other paths. The enemies in the other paths however would become stronger than they would have been if Link had chosen their path. There would be many scenarios like this throughout the game.

Some parts of the game wouldn't be a dirt road. Link would also be traveling through dense forests, deserts, and open fields. This will increase the exploration that can be done. Some of these wide open places would lead to other towns that don't have a roll in the story but do have sidequests.

This game would take place between two other games. One of those games would take place in Hyrule and another would take place in the kingdom that Link was traveling to.

As long as the main antagonist isn't Ganondorf and he isn't involved in the game in any way then this idea is sweet! The next LoZ game needs a new villain for a change.

Don't worry. The main antagonist wouldn't be Ganondorf. Ganondorf is more likely to appear in Hyrule, where the Triforce is. I'm glad that you like this idea. Although I still must brace myself for harsh criticisms.

This idea= gigantic overworld= me like if done right. Zelda overworlds suck as of late and something huge like this would be great.

If that happens then Link should get to use Pegasus boots.

Re: Link, the journeyman

It would be cool if 1/2 way through the story, Link had to cross an ocean with a magic boat that was fast and could change direction without wind assistance. The boat would also come with cannons. This ocean would have many islands with their own villages and stuff. Exploring these islands would be more valuable than exploring the great sea in WW. Link would even be able to use the boat to find a new continent that would be full of rewarding sidequests.

Re: Link, the journeyman

If Project Deluge was real, then there would have been a train system. This game should have that. For every new place that Link reaches, he needs to free the local train station from enemies. After that, he can use the train whenever he wants for free.

Re: Link, the journeyman

That's a really intriguing idea. D'you think you could draw a model of this overworld and show us examples of the "non-linear gameplay/boulder" idea? Just a suggestion.

Re: Link, the journeyman

I like this idea. Something different putting Link against an entire organization of criminals. As long as there's plenty to do along the way in such a big overworld. Like in Assassins Creed, the overworld was pretty big, yet it was such a pain to ride through since there was absolutely nothing to do.

Re: Link, the journeyman

I did a similar idea to this but it had seperate worlds. People called it a fan fic. I like it original plot ( a villian less like a supervillain and more like terrorists). A Great overworld and nonlinearity.

I'll try it:

--D--VS
/ \
S--VD O-
\ /
--D--VS

Key:
S-Start
V-Village
D-Dungeon
S-Sidquest
O-Some huge overworld like a field, desert, or ocean

The map of this game would be like this but more complex with even more branching. After the first Village and Dungeon, you get to choose a path. I hope that was enough explanation.

Re: Link, the journeyman

Makes sense. That'd be cool if we could collaborate to make an overworld map or something.

Oh, darn! I just realized that the "map" that I made came out wrong on my post. It looked different when I was first putting it together.
