Lightbulb Play as Zelda?

Nintendo should make a game where you could play as Zelda, and please don't bring CD i into this because just because those games sucked doesn't mean a Nintendo game would.

Re: Play as Zelda?

we've had a topic about this already, but this is a bad game idea, because if you had to play as Zelda it would be boring and pointless, like the CD-i games where you played as Zelda (thank god they weren't made by Nintendo), and they were horrible. What could Zelda do that Link can't anyway? Apart from prevent her dress from getting dirty, which would make the game horrible.

Thats what I"m sayin, I've been hoping for a Zelda game to actually place as the character to what the franchise was named after. After these past ten years Zelda has proved to me that she can hold her own and deserves a quest either by herself or side by side with LInk

.....hate the fact that some people think that just because she's a girl that she isn't capable. I say thats some bull crap if you ask me.

Re: Play as Zelda?

No its a great idea. The only problem is what the storyline is and how did Zelda become the main character? As long as Link is not kidnapped I am fine. He could be somewhere else doing whatever. Just as long as the main goal in the story is to save Link.

Maybe it could take place in the Adult Timeline a decade or so after OoT. Some uprising takes place. For the most part you play as shiek. No one other then Link and Ganondorf and maybe Impa know this. So its a good disguise.

But then there would be times where you need to be just Zelda. Most fighting would not take place while you are as Zelda. However at some point the Castle could be breached by enemies. You get to use some cool magic and such to help defend the castle.

Shiek could be more of a platform kind of character. Think Prince of Persia SoT.

Do not dismiss the idea just because you play as Zelda. It could be made into an interesting game.

Re: Play as Zelda?

Umm... no. Why? Zelda is a freakin princess. Putting her life for what...

Unless, well this isn't really Zelda type but the only reason I can think of for playing Zelda would be if Ganon
has kidnapped Link and Zelda must run-away or something.

Re: Play as Zelda?

I agree with Tazryl on this one. Place it after OoT on the adult timeline (which would explain why Link can't do it, as he doesn't exist on that timeline until WW), and have it be so that you can transform between Zelda and Shiek, as you will need both to complete the game. I think it would be kind of cool to have a ninja, sneaky kind of character, rather than the brash hack and slash format of Link. Having a hero that uses darts and a chain as weapons, and ninja Deku flash balls to move from place to place as defense would be great. It would keep old elements of a Zelda game while adding new ones. Superb idea.

Ok, seriously, this is but another closed minded post with very poor reasoning. I don't know how many times I've written this, but a lot of people here are very closed minded and can't really make a good argument against things.
Just because there was this cd-i game that wasn't even made by Nintendo doesn't mean that if Nintendo decides to make Zelda the main character, then game MUST suck like it did with the cd-i. That's just oversimplifying things.

Anyways, I think that Zelda as the main character would be a great idea. Not only would she break the monotony of being the same silent, almost lifeless hero but also introduce a new storyline or quest. Zelda also has a lot of potential as a character in both personality and gameplay. Think of all the things you can learn from Zelda who is often vague in most games. And also think of how you can run around playing as Zelda and using all sorts of bizarre spells and attacks. I'd be more hyped than ever if they announce Zelda as the main character for the next LoZ installment. In fact, I'm up for any character that is not Link. Seriously, are you guys not sick of all the monotony? After playing TP, all I want for the Zelda series is to break free through change. A big change.

Re: Play as Zelda?

What would be the point? If you're playing as Zelda then what is the story? Did Ganondorf capture Link? It wouldn't work at all as far as storylines go. Remember CD-i? *shudders* Plus, what new abilitys could Zelda possibly possess? Would she kick or something? And how would fans react to this? Getting used to playing as a whole new character would take some time, and getting used to a completely new set of abilitys wouldn't be fun. It's just not a good idea. Sorry, but this will never happen.

No, it could take place on the adult timeline just after OoT, when Link doesn't even exist because Zelda sent him back to his childhood.

Which wasn't made by Nintendo. If Nintendo made it, it would be much better.

Um, maybe darts and a whip. They obviously found enough new moves to give her in Super Smash Bros. I'm sure they could do it in a Zelda game.

Quote:

Who cares? They can grow up and accept change, or they can complain about it. That wouldn't stop it from being a good game.

...What? Are you saying that every time you pick up a new game that learning a new set of abilities isn't fun? How did you ever like games in the first place then? Part of what's great about new games is learning to handle them. I fail to see how learning a new set of abilities wouldn't be fun.

Re: Play as Zelda?

I'm all for it, thats why I added a Sheik section to my OoT remake. Its set in the 7 years when Link's locked in the Sacred Realm.

Sheik gets missions and quests from the Sheikah of Kakariko Village and the Sheikah Citadel (these are obviously additions made by me XP). She has 3 'tunics', one based on Stealth, one on Combat and the other on Magic. As for equipment and items, we though of double daggers, katars, a katana or a staff. As well as a chain, shuriken (needle, star, and exploding), we even gave her Zora flippers and the fire and ice rod. She even has 6 'dungeons' and bosses to face!

So, in terms of 'what could Zelda have/do?' Nothing?! Are you people serious? There's no reason she can't kick butt! She has the Triforce of Wisdom for the goddesses sake! If my brother and I can come up with a way for her to fit into OoT, then there's no reason Nintendo couldn't finally give her her own story. TP and WW showed her using Light Arrows. She even posed as a Sheikah in OoT and as a pirate in WW and PH! So there could be plenty of ways to bring her into a new game and make her playable!

Personally, I've always loved the idea of co-op Link and Zelda, mostly cause it means my brother and I could play together, but the possibilites are endless!

And as for 'ruining Zelda' if you mean, ruining the established 'Link is the hero of time, he must go save Hyrule' which the previous games have followed, then yes, it might ruin that (though thats arguable, as I've said above!). But there's no reason Nintendo couldn't make a new style of gameplay, new storyline and such based around the games' own namesake!

Aralith I thank you very much for supporting me on this topic. All I am saying is that Nintendo could make a game where Zelda can actually do more than she did in the other games. Playing as someone new MIGHT add a little more fun to the game series. Although I follow traditions, I just think maybe atleast once. Playing as Zelda might be kind of fun in many ways!

I hate it when people use this argument for why Zelda shouldn't have her own game. The CD-i games weren't even made by Nintendo, so just because those games were bad doesn't mean Nintendo couldn't pull it off. Also, the CD-i games didn't suck just because they starred Zelda. They sucked because the people who made them couldn't program to save their lives. Heck, one of the CD-i games starred Link, and it was bad as well.

If Zelda was the main character, I highly doubt she'd be wearing a dress. She can change her clothes, you know. There are lots of things Zelda can do that Link can't. Link doesn't have magic powers. He can't create or break seals by himself. Zelda has magical spells at her disposal, and she also has the ability to transform into Sheik. If Zelda was a frail, helpless girly girl like everyone makes her out to be, I highly doubt she could have avoided Ganondorf and protected the people of Hyrule for seven years while Link was sealed away.

Congrats, you earned yourself an Epic Fail. We could use a different enemy with different motives. How many times can you play out the damsel in distress? How many times does Zelda need to be captured? It worked great for awhile... now its just boring. I would hope that we would see a different villian soon. Ganondorf is fun, but he gets boring after awhile. Damn I am sick of hearing about Ganondorf's attempt to steal the Triforce. let the story idea die... we dont want this to become something like the incredibly lame Team Rocket and their never-ending quest to steal pikachu do we?

A Zelda game doesnt need Ganondorf. Thats just boring.

Quote:

Wow... 2 epic fails in one post!

You are seriously closed minded. That is by far the lamest most pathetic excuse EVER. Nintendo never made the CD-I games. If Nintendo wanted to, they could get a brilliant storyline going.

Hell I could make a better storyline then that of OoT had using Zelda/sheik as a main character. Of course its really of an opinion in general, but OoT didnt have that big of a story to begin with.

Quote:

Never played Melee/Brawl? Well I never played Brawl, but I played Melee.

Zelda/Sheik has those Needles, which are pretty cool. Then there is that chain she could use as a main weapon. Then there are her melee moves. Then Zelda can use Spells, which could provide some cool spells.

Then there are the variety of weapons you could obtain in the game.

Quote:

I would love a game where you play as Zelda/Shiek.

Are you even listening to yourself? Is Zelda the only game you play? The majority of players play more then just Zelda. They are used to different game styles with different gameplay. Its just something they get used to.

Besides mastering the gameplay of a game you never played is part of the fun. You start off barely knowing the basics, but you learn to masterfully take down the enemies before they know whats coming.

You have yet to provide any good reasons why this is a bad idea.

I think it's entirely possible that they can follow traditions in a game where you play as Zelda. For example, keeping the idea of a large, open overworld that you can explore almost all of at anytime. That's actually one of the traditions that they haven't been keeping with some of the newer games. Anyways, point is that they could do it, and it would be wonderful.

Oh, and you are most welcome.

Re: Play as Zelda?

I am surprised by how popular this thread is! But ANYWAYS maybe it could be a great game! Either boys are so sexist that they hate playing as girls or they just hate the fact that a girl can do more than just be pretty and stay in the background and do nothing. Yea, Zelda can transform into sheik whenever the player is in a tight situation. (Do some major ninja butt wuppin) Maybe Zelda can transform into Sheik any time and can stay in the Sheik form for as long as they like. But there could be some puzzles that you can only solve playing as Zelda and Sheik. Like if their is some long gap that Zelda can't jump over... Sheik time... And whenever you need some sort of sheild... Zelda time and use Nayru's love. (Isn't that what its called?)

Re: Play as Zelda?

Keep it to Smash Bros. Or maybe as some sort of cheat or hack, but not in principal gameplay. Though she does have considerable power, I just don't see a scenario where a quest game, with her as the playable character, would work.
