The Legend of Zelda: The Shadow Cowl

This is an idea I've had for a while. It has evolved a lot, but I think this is final. It basically starts in a seldom-heard-of sea named Kiyerulia, on a little island named Worokanti. The island is under the dictatorship of Vaati, who (big secret coming up) RETURNED FROM THE DEAD AS A VAMPIRE!!!

It begins when Link is sent into the Mysterious Forest north of Tarune Citadel (where he lives) by his mentor, Rigol Niru, in search of a mushroom. Traveling deep into the woods, Link meets a strange monster named Dargrasai*, who guides him to his goal. But they are cut off by Moblins that chase them away. Link then finds a large stump with a sword imbedded in it. Link draws the sword, combats the Moblins, picks the Mushroom, & returns to the citadel. However, when his mentor sees the sword, he is shocked & orders Link to go south of town to the old dungeon. There Link finds a secret organization who call themselves the Fairy Blunts. The Fairy Blunts' leader, Gildore, upon seeing Link's sword, summons Gaira (the Blunts' scholar) who tells tells Link that the Silver Sword he carries could only be fould by the Hero prophesied to deliver Worokanti from Vaati. She tells Link the truth about Vaati, & that the sword Link carries (the Silver Sword) can be fused with 7 artifacts known as the Silver Shards to create a legendary sword called the Dragon Blade. This sword, they say, is the only object capable of destroying a vampire. Link joins the Fairy Blunts, receives the Blunt Shield, & is ordered to the Tamaranch Mountain Range to the north, where the first Silver Shard is hidden.

Which takes us to our first level, Firesand Tunnel! It's a big, monster infested dungeon. In it, you find the Worokanti Bow, & fight Hot Head, the dungeon's mini-boss. At the end, you must face off with Dongazzo, the Boss. He's similar to all the Dodongos before him, only this guy's undead. So, get the Silver Shard, return to the Blunt's base (incidentally named Tail cave) & get your next orders to the eastern portion of the Tamaranch Mountain Range, were the next Silver Shard is located. To get through some hard spots in the mountains, you are given the Blunt's latest piece of technology, the Bombchu.

So, make it through the mountains to the 2nd level, the Nimbus Tower. You find out that it used to be used for collecting energy from lightning & translating it to power, but a giant flying monster took over the tower. In the dungeon, you will find the Megaton Hammer, which can be used to fight the dungeon's mini-boss, Kholdstare. After you complete the circuit, bringing energy from the tower's power resivior to the rest of the dungeon, you gain access to the tower's turret, where you fight the Boss, Raisolos. He is similar to the Helmaroc King in shape, but not in behavior. Knock down his perches using the Megaton Hammer, then bash him with your sword.

Grad the Shard & return to the base were a new task awaits you. The next Silver Shard is in a Haunted Mansion in Ukuku Prairie. You are given the Zora's Flippers to help with the quest. You must swim in the river east of the prairie, where you meet the Zoras. They don't have much to say on your mission, but they give you a shovel that washed into the river. so, return to the prairie & enter Seashell Mansion, where the shard is. It's a simple dungeon, just two rooms! But a phantom halts you, & refuses admittance unless you bring him the Secret Seashell hidden in the prairie outside. When you bring it to him, however, he uses its power split himself into 4, then shrinks you down into the size of a Minish! That's when the level gets hard. You will have to sneak through cracks & fight miniature evils like Vitreous (a bit of mold). You then find the Cane of Omacra, which allows you to kill the phantoms throughout the level & blast open ghost barriers. Eventually, you revert yourself to a normal size & meet the phantom that shrunk you. When he tries to use his magic again, he gets blasted with the Cane of Omacra & retreats to the room above. Following him up, you must fight the 4 version of the phantom, after which he possesses a suit of armor. The suit is impervious to your attacks, but by hitting it with your sword you can knock it into one of the stone pillars in the room, which cracks it open. Here it fuses itself into a stronger phantom which you beat with the Cane. The above Boss is named MASQUERADE.

Well, that's all I have time for right now. It may not see that cool just yet, but just wait. The story is about to take a major turn, so stay tuned.

*Dargrasai is a kind on shadow-spider thing. He will rest on Link's shoulder & functions like Navi in OoT.

Edit: I changed Galadriel the Fairy to Dargrasai. Much darker.

Cool. How did you come up with those names? And also, does this game take place after FSA?

I just thought up the names over time. It has been a work in progress for some time. It takes place after FSA-ALttP.

The Ghosts just look like pokemon, though I will admit that they were inspired by my 2 favorite pokemon, Haunter, & Gengar.

Now, in case you haven't noticed, I based Worokanti's geography on Kolohint Island from LA DX. Many of the names are also similar.

A Few notes on Game-play:
In SC, I would have actual weather cycles. Not just storms when you play a specific song, but actual weather patterns. It could be clear sky, then it could be a tornado or typhoon.

On the game's picture quality, I would like it to be more of a WW-MC combination. Realistic yet cartoony graphics.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: The Shadow Cowl

Okay, let's see how much I can squeeze in...

Right...Link returns to Tarune Citadel to find out that Vaati has kidnapped Gaira with intentions to marry her-vampire style. As Gildore explains to Link, Attacking Vaati would be useless as the only thing known to kill Vaati is the Dragon Blade, & by the time it is forged, Gaira will be long dead. "We need another power," he says. " The power of Shadow. It is said that one of the great Incarnations of Darkness sleeps in The Shrine of Hakkanox. He's our only hope." So you must enter said shrine. It's full of shadow monsters, yet it is relatively short, so it isn't much of a problem. When you reach the end, Dargrasai calls out "Brother" & a werewolf made of shadow seeps from the floor.

"Dargrasai. It has been long..." replies the form. The wolf turns out to be Hakkanox, one of the 4 Incarnations of Darkness. (Dargrasai is also an incarnation, despite the form he assumes.) Link's quest is explained, & Hakkanox tells Link that the Silver Sword was crafted by the I.O.D. (Incarnationsof Darkness). "The only one who can draw the sword you hold is the Hero of Shadow." says Hakkanox. "It is little known, as so many fear the shadows. Do not fear the shadows. Shadows are the absence of light & in themselves contain no evil. It's what makes the shadow that counts!" Hakkanox then gives Link the SHADOW COWL, a hood that transforms Link into a Darker Form. Its power can only be activated at the Shadow Altars, & will wear off when you enter sunlight. You cannot use items (swords & shields included) that your light form could. "Travel by night & use the shadows. Fulfill your destiny, Link."

When Link exits the shrine, you & the Fairy Blunts storm Kanalet Castle (Vaati's residence). The entrance is cursed, though, only allowing Gildore & Link inside. It is a short level, yet you acquire the Anti-Mirror, a sheild for your dark form that reflects shadow. When you reach Vaati's chamber, Vaati is about to drain Gaira's blood. Gildore throw his sword, which slashes Vaati's back & breaks the wide window behind him, opening the room to the storm outside. Gildore drags Gaira to safety, & Link turns into his Darker Form using one of Vaati's gargoyles imbued with shadow (thus, the equivalent to a Shadow Altar). Then the battle begins. Vaati uses lightning attacks which can be reflected back at him, stunning him. This allows you to go in for the kill with your Shadow Reaper (the dark equivalent to a sword). After repeating the process 8 times, Vaati is overpowered. He then escapes through the storm cell above using his powers as a wind mage, leaving Worokanti at peace-for now.

That's all I can do today. I hope you enjoyed it as there will be more soon enough.

Awesome idea! When Link wears the shadow cowl, does he look like Dark Link?

He looks more like a 'Ring Wraith' or Nazgul from Lord of the Rings.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: The Shadow Cowl

This is really good, but i think it belongs in Fanfic. If you didn't write it yourself and have reason to believe that this is going to be an actual game, keep this here. If not, try getting a mod to move this.
