What would you like to see in Zelda?

I'm curious of the ideas you all have for Zedla games.

I'd personaly like to have a difficulty setting.

lately the Zelda games are getting to easy. I'd like to see the games be tougher. Say if you choose easy an octo rock would do 1/4 heart damage, on medium it does 1/2 heart damage, and hard does 1 heart damage.

I'd also like to see the ability to choose light or dark sides. Play as Link or Dark Link. Aid Zelda or Ganondorf.

It'd be cool to have the ability to choose a different weapon as a sidequest to fight bosses with. It'll never happen, but still, seeing Ganon/Ganondorf going down using a machine gun is a cool thought

Here's what I would like to see, my post.
There's a lot that's great about Zelda, but a lot could be improved. Basically, my post sums up what I'd like to see.
Though while we're totally fantasizing, it would be awesome to play as Zelda. And the idea of playing as Dark Link appeals to me too, but I'm a Shadow fan. Could just be that.
Be nice if Ganon wasn't fat and ugly and green. He'd be so much cooler if her looked REMOTELY like I imagine a Gerudo male would look like. Saw a picture that sums up my imagination of a male Gerudo, but I can't link to it, since I can't remember where it was. But he weirds me out as-is. In WW he looks like a blimp, and in TP he's three times as big as any human person and his hair is all weird.

There should be unlockables.

-beat the game and unlock hard mode (enemies deal more damage and have more health)
-get every heart piece and collectible item and unlock insane mode (even harder than hard mode)

Other than that I think Zelda simply needs to add a more complex fighting system, with an RPG-like upgrading system for the attacks and defensive moves. To those who think that is too un-Zelda, I suggest giving Zelda II: AoL a try. Twilight Princess sort of gave us a tiny peak into what Zelda could be like if it had some extra moves, and I think it'd only be natural to elaborate on that idea and go full out with an arsenal of complex, fully upgradeable moves. We all know the puzzles and temples are sweet and pretty much perfect, so I think a revamp of the battle system is what should be focused on.

I have to say, I'm in agreement with Hylian Princess. There are a lot of things that can be done in the Zelda games but aren't. Anyway, I've written a large post about what I'd like to see in a Zelda game. You can read it here.

I think I'll just leave it in the capable hands of Nintendo. I really don't have any complaints with the Zelda series or the direction it's taking, though these days, it seems like a lot of fans do, which puzzles me.

For example, why the need for difficulty? I fail to understand why the difficulty level of a game seems to act as one of the primary critiquing factors these days.

Actually, I don't think Ganondorf has really been green since Ocarina. And he's not really fat, he just appears hefty but most of it appears to be muscle.

I don't think Zelda fans will ever be in agreement with one another concerning what they want because Zelda means different things for each one. Personally, I'd like everyone to have a deeper or more endearing characters. Ilia and the kids were nice, but I felt they lost relevance as the game went on. Zelda was an inspiring figure but not much else. They did do a good job with Midna, probably at the expense of everyone else's development.

I would also like there to be more allies I can fight as and alongside. I liked the feeling of sharing Link's adventure with someone. Who else thinks that Zelda has potential to fight alongside Link?

But on the other hand, I know people who would rather Zelda games have next to no story at all and thought switching between characters were annoying. Nintendo really can't please everyone and it looks like it's all up to them.

Switching characters has never worked for me because generally I don't like the move sets of everyone else it makes you play as (not including the MM transformations). Also, the 'partner' dungeons in WW made sure that I never played all the way through that game more than once. So, what I WOULDN'T like to see, is more dependence on characters other than Link.

I like Daeth's idea about unlockables, and it kind of made me think about Ura Zelda/OoT Master Quest. It wasn't an unlockable but it's still my favorite bonus feature ever released. I think there should be a system in place like Metroid's where the ending changes based on the percentage of completion you get. That would rock my face off!

But you don't think he should have guns too, do you?

Also, I agree with the OP about a difficulty setting; it works really well with Mega Man games and other game types. And I think there should be better rewards/more storyline revealed for harder difficulty levels.

I also think Zelda needs to try a turn-based RPG. I don't think the whole series should go in that direction by any means. But I think it'd be a nice experiment to try that for one game and see what happens. I think Nintendo would have a lot of potential with it. (Heck, even Mario and Mega Man have had full-blown RPG's. Why not Link?)

Hey, why not? Sure, all of us have seen link blow up a rock with a bomb, or kill an enemy with an arrow, but it would be alot cooler if link threw a more destructive grenade or kill an enemy from far away with a sniper!

And while we're at it, we can give him a motorcycle instead of a horse, and let him raid Hyrule Highrise instead of Hyrule Castle!

No, but in all seriousness, Nintendo puts just enough post-Industrial Revolution tidbits (i.e. Bombs) just for gameplay's sake while striving to keep the game inherently set in a distinctly premodern, high fantasy time. So no need to replace that Bow & Arrow (especially now that Link has Bomb Arrows) unless there's a definite need!

my first real post. (clears my throat)

a difficulty setting would be nice, although instead of making the baddies tougher, I'd rather have tougher castles. Since the Wii era has began, it seems all of Nintendo games have dumbed things down. i dont know, just my take.

what do u all think about a contemporary Legend of Zelda? As the generations pass, we meet more and more Links, but what about the 19th, or even 20th century? far fetched i know. anyone seeing where I'm coming from wanna revamp?

Something just hit me. What about a game where Link goes back/forth in time, but instead of only going back and forth 7 years or 3 days, but by 100 years, 500 years, and 1000 years and meets every Link imbetween.

It will most likely never happen, but it's something I'd like to see.

The first Link, or the last Link confront Ganondorf and is then sent to the time of the First/Last Link (depending on which Link was sent.) Then Link must team up with the past/future Links through their adventures to get sent to the next generation of hero.

Example: OoX Link gets sent back to OoT and teams up with OoT Link, then after they defeat Ganondorf they travel to TWW/TP (the split timeline would make this very complicated so if they ever did make it, so they could only put in games from one timeline.)

this would definatly prove the "more than one Link" fact.

Yes I forgot about the customazation. I always liked that in OoT, I was really bummed when they took that away.

just changing tunic, shield, boots, and sword was cool.

but that sounds even better. Make you're own version of Link, make him (or her for the ladies) the way you want him/her to look. Make them look like you, or just make them look even cooler.
