Zelda Wii should use a simpler control scheme and a different design

I feel this would fit in with what Nintendo has been doing and be a fresh change of pace.

I think there should be less items. There are too many!

Look at TP. Sure, the game had tons of items, ball and chain, dominion rod, spinner etc. but how many of them actually got used? Pretty much the bomb, the arrows and the clawshot. I propose that these be the ONLY items in Zelda Wii! It will be simplier and the gameplay will not suffer, it shall require you to think more cleverly with what you use.

Every dungeon will not boil down to "blah blah, get keys, defeat miniboss, get item, use item to get to new places in dungeon, defeat boss with item". You shall have to use the items you have to figure out, not following a set pattern, and not knowing what to do with each boss.

There will of course be upgrades, you'll eventually get Fire Arrows, and Ice Arrows, and a double clawshot, but for the most part you must rely on these few items.

There will also be a musical instrument, whether it be a Wind Waker esque thing or a Ocarina, there should be one. There will be many songs you can play, and a animation that's easily skippable so that the songs will be easily used and played, and frequently. It will be put to many clever uses, even more so then in OoT.

Trapped in a burning room? Perhaps you should try the Song of Storms. Facing a evil vampire like monster? Try the sun song, it might just weaken it! Many clever uses like this would really help the puzzles in the game.

The sword controls would also be better. The direction of your swings would dictate how Link swung. Swing the Wiimote vertically to cause Link to swing vertically, swing the Wiimote horizontally to cause Link to swing horizontally and etc. Certain swings will be needed for defeating certain enemies or bosses! And the shield will be back as well. You'll have to use C to keep it up, so it won't automatically come up as in TP. It could also become a mirror shield later on in the game.

And as for this so called simpler control scheme? Here's my idea for it:

So what do you think? I think this would be very nice and a great chance of pace for Zelda Wii! I also never understood the wasting of C button for looking around, when the Minus button could have been used for that.

You have some nice ideas.

I'd rather we had the same amount of items, but they were put to better use. I think having a relatively big number of items is a good thing as long as they are all actually useful.

Yeah, something like this would be great. Dungeons in Zelda are starting to get very repititive because most of them follow the exact same formula.

I don't think a musical instrument is vital to the game, but having one again would be nice, especially if they were put to the uses you have posted.

Wow, that's very interesting. You've obviously put a lot of thought into it, well done! You didn't say that swinging the Wii remote would make Link swing his sword though, which should definitely be the case.

Sounds like a revamped Ocarina of Time.

The amount of weapons were fine in TP, it's just that their usefulness didn't last very well once completing their respectful dungeons/temples. Just increase their usefulness so that it'll span throughout the whole game. Either way, this has been a reoccurring problem throughout the Zelda series that should be looked at by Nintendo.

Having less weapons and items won't work, especially for a console such as the Wii. If anything, we want more weapons and items -- thus creating more interaction between the Wiimote, player, and game.

I really hope you are joking, taking the things that you don't use all the time in zelda will be like eating cake without the icing. yes, you can still eat it, but it won't be as good.

Also the things were used for the puzzles, take the spinner thing(forgot what it was called) you used to get to things like heart containers. Did you use it all the time, No.

Also Problems with control setup

1. Why do you suggest you hold Z and C at the same time, sure it can be done, It will be annoying because half the time you let your shield down you will untarget your target. and its a uncomfortable thing to do.

2. The problem with the D-pad is that if you are not careful when you are pressing the side you could also press down, that will be a annoyance. Also why the claw shot at the top?

Now what I would like to see is Nintendo work on their level design. I would like to see you have to use things from previous levels in levels later in the game more. But the crap load of things are what make zelda, zelda, without getting new things as you go along the game will get boring and repetitive.

I doubt they'll be able to think of uses for all of those items. It's just better to not have them in the game, IMO.

I've tried it, it works fine for me. It wasn't an issue holding the two buttons in TWW, was it?

The D-Pad set up is good too. It was good in TP which used a similar system anyway.

And clawshot at the top because, well, it'll probably be used less then the other two items, so it's in the button that's slightly harder to reach.

Umm... Lame. Let me explain why... We like Zelda pretty much they way it is. We all would like it to be a little different. Will it? No, at least not in the way we would like it. I personally would like to see it go back to the difficulty of AoL.

Second, the control set up for TP was perfect in my opinion. Sure they could have done something with the - button

And I don't know about everyone else, but I for one look forward to the new items in a Zelda game. No matter how briefly you use it.

Hm, it's interesting, but I wouldn't like a game like that. A bow, some bombs, and a hookshot (or whatever) wouldn't be very interesting, and a Zelda game isn't good without a boomerang.

I'd prefer having a good selection of items to use - but, make them more useful and less predictable. If you get a Hookshot in dungeon 3, the boss of dungeon 3 doesn't necessarily have to be weak to the Hookshot.
