In the Gamernode interview...

In the Gamernode interview Aunema stated that the game would be aimed towards appealing to the casuals. But also said that he would have things that appeal to both casual and hardcore fans.

I was about to get my hopes up, but then I remembered the world "casual." The next Zelda could be a complete disapointment?

But he did say that he wants to offer something in the next Zelda that all gamers will like -- both casual and hardcore.

The Zelda games are nothing more than simple, forgettable diversions now. Since The Minish Cap, the Zelda games have thrown away charm, story, well-written characters, and exploration. Zelda is just a shell of what it used to be. Just try and compare A Link to the Past or Link's Awakening to something like The Minish Cap or Phantom Hourglass. Both tMC and PH are shallow in comparison.

Why is this? Because Aonuma, Miyamoto, and Nintendo just want to appeal to the casual gamers that play games for nothing more than simple distractions. Aonuma can say all he wants that he is making Zelda for both typed of gamers, but he isn't. Real gamers don't enjoy watered down, forgettable games with no replay value or charm. If Aonuma really cared about appealing to both parties, he'd make a difficulty setting, which he already went on record saying he wouldn't do.

Don't expect a big Zelda for Wii. Expect a simple, nongamer friendly adventure with no depth.

I wouldn't go THAT far, but I don't think Zelda will ever try to be as edgy as it was on the N64. The games now are either fanservice or casual gamer diversions, though I am expecting good things from Zelda Wii, I'm not sure if the series will ever be as good as it used to. I could be wrong though, just look at Super Mario Galaxy. It had enough stuff to please any time of gamer, without scaring away casuals.

That's a bit pessimistic. I hope not.
