Bring back magic?

I was just thinking, in another thread, but how cool would it be if they brought back magic into the 3D series, and used the spells from AoL?

I just pictured Link doing something like using Nayru's Love or Farore's Wind in OoT only having the spells from AoL work. Like sheild or fire. And quite possibly Fairy, to reach some places, but it would only last x amount of time. What do you guys think?

Re: Bring back magic?

this is a good idea, i have yet to play AoL in great detail, even though I have the game, but it would be interesting to see some of the spells used in AoL in a new 3D Zelda game

Re: Bring back magic?

From a programming standpoint I think it would be really hard for them to use Fairy, because it could lead to a lot of glitches. But I'm right there with you, it would be awesome! Plus it would give players something to look for besides pieces of heart, since the magic meter was expandable.

I wonder how they could implement Fairy, and not have it 'break' the gameplay...

Re: Bring back magic?

It would be like just one of the magic spells from OoT, and just last briefly, I don't know, they could work something out. I would LOVE to see the magic come back.

Re: Bring back magic?

I'm all for magic returning to Zelda. No doubt about it!
I don't see why they ever took it out in the first place...it's a great gameplay element and it can be used to create more/better puzzles.

Re: Bring back magic?

I think it would be great to see spells similar to AoL in 3D. They would look wonderful. The only thing I would worry about is the fact that Nayru's Love and Farore's Wind OOT were practically useless in OOT. The magic must be put to good use, even Din's Fire wasn't very useful. If they give us loads of spells I want every one of them to be put to good use.

Bring back magic! Hyrule is a fantasy land, it doesn't have to be totally realistic.

Re: Bring back magic?

I totally agree that bringing back a little magic would make for better gameplay elements and such.

I suppose the magic might have been dropped perhaps to introduce younger players without adding extra difficulty by implementing a magic meter. Hell, there have been times that I've needed magic at a certain point in a game but my meter was empty. Taking it away just eases the game a little.

I like it hardcore though. BRING BACK MAGIC!!!

Re: Bring back magic?

Here Here! Magic was always a good implement, i loved burning things with Dins Fire As for the AoL magic, i never played AoL, but i have seen the spells, and they were proberbly the highlight of the game for me.

It would be cool for them to merge the ideas of Magic in AoL (spells etc.) and the Magic Metre. Just as long as they dont have the RPG element..... I really disliked that about AoL, which is why i never played it after 10 minutes into the game.

Re: Bring back magic?

Ive barely played AoL, so I dont know about the spells, but Nintendo definitely needs to bring back magic. It adds to the gameplay, both in difficulty and overall experience. TP would have been much better had there been magic involved.

You really have to get a few dungeons in before you can really apprecieate it. It wasn't untill the second dungeon that I actually started enjoying it. Just give it a little more of a chance and you may find you quite like it. ^_^

Re: Bring back magic?

I haven't played AoL but I definitely missed having magic in TP even if I hardly ever used it I really liked the fact that I had the option there. I also agree with M Sicopath about bringing back the expandable magic meter because it added something else for you to achieve other than just a full heath meter, I'm all for little extras you can aim to achieve in a game

But that has nothing to do with what he said. He said he disliked the RPG element, the exp / leveling up.

Re: Bring back magic?

I wouldn't want the spells from AoL, to be honest. Just because they worked in 2D doesn't mean they'll work in 3D. I'd prefer it if they used some new spells. Say, for the fire spell (or one of the fire spells, anyway), they could have it set up to mimic the Fireball from Fable or Red Eco from Jak and Daxter.

Re: Bring back magic?

Magic would be cool until it gets to be too much like FF. So in the sense of having Fire, Ice, Light arrows; well then that rocks. I wish they'd have made those for sword upgrades also!!

Din's Fire I seldom use. Nayru and Farore's magic, I only used once or so to see what they did. Having the most of the AoL spells would be useless. If they were to bring back magic, I hope it'd be new spells.

I'm all for the argument of getting more to upgrade in the series. Not the way RPGs upgrade tho. All of the technical stuff makes RPGs less immersive.

Wonder what the Ether or Quake Medallions from ALttP would look like in 3D?

It's only called the magic meter... hmmm ofcourse we aren't talking about that.

Anyways, I like the idea of bringing back magic, but I'd like an arsenal on par with ALttP's. With items like the magic cape, the three medallions, the cane and staff, and the like. Thats they type of magic I'd like to see back in the series.

Re: Bring back magic?

Since playing AoL when I was young, I've always thought Link should have more magic prowess than he did. The medallions from ALttP and the three spells from OoT just didn't do it for me, since Link was drawing the power from an item rather than his own power. I'm all for magic returning. Fairy would be doable if it constantly drained the magic meter, I think. Lightning and Fire would be great, too, but I think the most fun would be Jump. Oh, the Jump spell.
