When do you expect the new Zelda?

When do you expect Zelda for the Wii. It isn't confirmed that it will released, but it won't make any sense to not make on for the Wii. I think if we are very lucky in 2009, but otherwise in 2010.

They're due for a new one, according to their history... Here's the list of all the console Zeldas and their release years.

OoT - 1998
MM - 2000
WW - 2002
FSA - 2004
TP - 2006

Come on, E3! Show me what I want to be true!

The longer the wait, the better the game. That's what I would say.

Nintendo does like to take its sweet time when making games to perfect them. If you want a good Zelda game it is best to wait patiently for it if you want it to be good expect 4-5 years in the making for it.

Not so fast:
*looks at TP* Good game, but not nearly worth 2 years of waiting.

I say we can expect it in 2010 or 2011.

I thought TP was a great game, and remember that OoT took 2 or more years than TP

Dont get me wrong: TP was a good game. It just wasn't what 2 years of hype promised.

They should have kept Zant as the main baddie, keep it a GC exclusive, voice acted it, added more dungeons, added more games, and given the NPCs their own agenda so you could get into their lives a bit.

Then they should have amped up the difficulty, added more horse battles, explore more puzzle options for their items, and orchestrated the music.

Yeah, there was a lot of room for improvement for such a high quality series.

SSBB Code: 2664-1977-4287 Phantom Hourglass Code: Hourglasses are outdated. Get a clock. Mario Kart DS Code: But I wasn't speeding, officer! Metroid Prime: Hunters Code: Hunting is wrong. Animal Crossing DS Code: Stay out of my town, dammit!
I agree with Rhalen in the fact that TP wasn't worth the two years of hype. I was extremely disappointed in the final version of TP. The beta screenshots looked so much better.

As for the new Zelda, I'd say sometime around 2011, or at the earliest, 2010. I think 2009 is pushing it.

This is probably going to take a very long time, as it most likely in the early stages of development. We haven't really heard any news about the game since it was announced. I suppose there is a very slight chance that it might come out in 2009, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Most of the stuff I would agree with could be better except the voice overs, it wouldn't be Zelda if they just all of the sudden added voice overs. The GC did work better for the gameplay style of TP. I don't like most of the games that don't feature Ganon or Ganondorf in some way that is just my personal opinion. And as far as the Zelda series goes I vote it almost on par with OoT.

They usually start work on a new Zelda game immediately after finishing the last one. If you look up info about the games, the exact same design team made PH and TP... which were only a year apart. Yeah, one of those was on the DS and wasn't as intensive as TP, but they were making that engine entirely from scratch.

I think Link's Crossbow Training was supposed to tease information about a larger release. I mean, didn't that game seem to come out of nowhere? Sure, it came packaged with a peripheral, but the new Zapper was really just a shell to apply to a controller that already worked... LCT was short, but it was all new. And they could have waited to release something so small (comparitively) on this new WiiWare service.

Eiji Aonuma (project director for the last four Zelda games) hasn't been noticed doing anything else. I bet they're going to surprise us. Here's a quote from a recent interview (July 2007); this is right after PH was released.:

"With this DS Zelda, I and the staff, our eyes were opened to the possibilities of the hardware... So not only are we planning to do the same thing for the Wii, but to continue to do so for the DS as well."

This was a year after TP was out, and he directly mentions plans for another Wii Zelda. (The question, by the way, was "With Phantom Hourglass done, what's the future of the Zelda series?")

I think Nintendo is going to surprise everyone by releasing something sooner than we all think. Maybe a trailer at E3?

Agreed on all counts, except maybe the voice acting one. I think they should add voice acting to more games in their other series before adding it to Zelda, just so they get the hang of it. I would hate to have a Zelda game with bad voice acting/lip syncing/script writing. They definitely should have had more horse battles, though, and the music should NOT have been synthesized.

I'm expecting the new Zelda to come out in a couple years, '10 at the latest.

That's a good point, Goronlove. One of Eiji Aonuma's quotes is that he "would like to make a Zelda that somehow surpasses the Ocarina of Time", so ten years after its release Nintendo might make good on that!

The console market and the time it takes to finish the game are probably much more important factors to consider. Whether or not it's the tenth anniversary will get them a little more media attention, but won't have a huge effect on who buys it.

um, the NES and SNES might not have had 3D games but they were still console zeldas, are far more important to the serious than FSA for one.

also, you might want to add to your list that it was 6 years between ALTTP and OoT. When they create a new game that adds a whole new direction to the series, it takes longer. Aonuma indeed said that TP was the last of this type of zelda, so I wouldn't be surprised if 2009 comes and we don't have a new console zelda.

Here's a list of the major zeldas:

1986....LoZ.........----
1987....AoL........(1 year)
1992....ALTTP....(5 years)
1998....OoT.......(6 years)
2000....MM........(2 years)
2002....WW.......(2 years)
2006....TP.........(4 years)

Going by the most recent trend of {2, 2, 4} since OoT made Zelda into one of Nintendo's 2 most important franches, I'll predict a 3 year span until the next Zelda, so sometime in 2009

I left out the 2D console Zeldas because they weren't developed by the same team responsible for all of the 3D Zeldas, Nintendo R&D3. Plus, I don't think dropping FSA accurately represents the development time, because while they were making that, any other Zelda game was on hold. I'm not listing it for its importance, but rather for its existence; I think, because of this timeline, we'll see another Zelda soon, and the only question is whether it will be epic (TP) or not (FSA).

True, but lets not forget how they try to keep us busy with PH, Crossbow Training and Ruppee Land

Not so true. Technically speaking, the new Zelda was already in the works when they decided to slip TP over to the Wii. That took up so much time and they just took time away from the "new" Zelda.

Yeah, they say 2-3 years, then they tack on another 2 to work on the bits and pieces. Every.single.time.

No, definitely worth the two years (from after WW), not worth the EXTRA two years to be ported to the Wii.

Wind Waker was supposed to come out in November 2002 but it was delayed until March of 2003.

I hope we'll see Zelda around xmas 2009 but I doubt that, it'll prbably be at least 2010.

I'm not gonna hold out on anything being before early '10, they're definitely gonna take their sweet time with this, possibly even more so than before if they plan on moving the games in a whole new direction.

AoL wasn't a major Zelda. It was just a little spin-off game made by another team of developers, not Zelda 2 (despite what Nintendo of America wants to make us believe).

I'm gonna say 2011, right before the end of Wii.
Look how long it took to make TP. Again they will want to do something different and they're probably making a new engine to do it. As we all know TP was using tWW's engine but highly modified.

This will be the first Zelda game actually made for Wii, so there will be a ton of new code to produce. I just hope Nintendo see the goldmine behind each Zelda game and keep making them better, that's why they need more people working on them to get it out faster.

I'm not really sure if I want Ganon again, they pulled off a nice Man-to-Man sword combat in TP which was really satisfying.
