Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos

Here is a game I made up, may have seen some of it posted around the forums but oh well.

Please comment on whether you liked or disliked the general idea. Now before you read this please keep an open mind. Also neither the Master Sword, Triforce, or Ganondorf make an appearence. Master Sword is talked about, Ganondorf is also mentioned. Triforce symbol is seen but thats just it.

Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos.

Link is sparring with his Master. Several children gather to witness the spectacle. At the end Link is defeated. The master compliments him and leaves him to spend the day however you please. The Children come up and tell you how Link is awesome and what not.

As you take control you get to explore the village and learn the general controls and what Link’s life is like.

Link lives in a village in the southern part of Hyrule in a small forest.(so its like OoT/TP!) everything seems peaceful. You hear some rumors that Moblin ‘s and other such creatures are starting to roam the land in frequent numbers.

The Mayor asks you to escort his daughter and wife to Market town. Having nothing better to do you accept and you leave for Hyrule. On the path their you meet with a group of Hog Riders. The battle seems endless, but all you have to do is ward them off until you reach the Market Towns walls. Where a scouting part of Hylian Knights is about to go on patrol.

Now you enter the town and Mayor’s wife and daughter go about their shopping. You can talk to the various NPCs. You learn more about the recent moblin activity and rumors of countries suffering from a strange illness. Eventually a fight will break out.

The cutscene starts off with seeing a young swordsman expertly fighting several guards at once. Link runs up, sword in hand ready to jump in. the young swordsman beats the guards and you then can take control. You fight the young swordsman, after having a close fight you lose.

Nothing more you can do you go find the Mayors daughter and Wife and leave for your home.

After a few days a courier from Princess Zelda delivers a letter requesting you to come and give your account of what happened.

You arrive at Hyrule Castle and you meet with Zelda. She tells you of how this mysterious young swordsman has been spotted stealing and causing all sorts of trouble. He has also been seen near or around temples that hold some mysterious item. Every few days after the sighting evil has started plaguing the area.

Link offers to investigate. In the first Temple you go you see signs of the swordsman. You go through the temple and defeat the boss. A portal appears after the boss and you are taken to a room, an alter is at the center of the room… only it has nothing their.

After going through another temple you finally meet up with the young swordsman. He is examining an inscription that contains some riddle. Some moblins or something arrives and interrupts your little meeting. You fight side by side as the horde swarms in.

When the battle ends… he is gone. You can read the inscription but it makes no sense to you.

This would happen often. You see the young swordsman reading inscriptions in odd places, you even fight along side him. As the game progresses the rumors of him begin to spread like wildfire. You hear how he is behind everything… even Zelda agrees with these rumors. Yet everything you have seen does not add up.

You have to fix the temples, often the item that was held there is long gone. You do manage to collect some of the items that the temples hold. In one in counter with the swordsman you fight and he manages to steal the items you had taken from the temples. Of course you still have no idea why they are important. But reading the inscriptions you see the swordsman at and talking to certain NPCs reveal the reason. That is if you can figure it out.

At the end you finally meet the young swordsman for the last time. You enter the area just as he finishes some kind of ritual. This causes him to almost laugh, not in a evil manner, but almost in relief.

He finally notices you blocking the only exit. He commands Link to move aside or die. He is determined to leave, but previous to this you learn of what the items can create. A sword so evil that it rivals the Master Sword. If anyone, such as Ganondorf, got his hands on this sword it would be the fall of Hyrule.

The battle begins. The fight starts off with a swordfight. If done right it would appear that you are equal. Unable to hit each other. Soon you begin to get hits on each other.

Link is finally knocked off balance and the swordsman escapes. Prompting a horseback fight. You race across Hyrule exchanging attacks.

A cutscene happens and a large group of hog riders ambush you. Link is seen fighting with them while the swordsman leaves. He gets on top of a hill and looks back, Link is obviously overwhelmed. He then rushes back to aid you.

Once that is done, Link and the swordsman continue battle. Link is determined to stop this person at all costs. Despite what the player has seen, Link has come to the conclusion that this man is evil.

Then he talks to you. He tells you half of his story. He is about to reveal why he went through it, when a wounded hog rider manages to get a vital hit on the swordsman. In Links hands he reveals the story…(not quite yet!)

Link is then seen entering Zelda’s Throne room. She asks what happened as she had heard from scouts that he had fought the young swordsman. Link, tear stricken, nods. Zelda is delighted to see the young swordsman’s insignia in his right hand.

At this Link becomes furious and does what no Link has done before, approach Zelda in a hostile manner. Guards quickly surround Link and spear tips are placed at his neck. Zelda is shown jerking backwards in surprise.

Link tells everything to Zelda. Flashbacks reveal the things that didnt quite make sense. The riddles, you talking to people who told you about the illness.

Side Note: Through out the game if you paid enough attention you could find the truth before you even start the final fight. It would in no way be obvious. Things contradict each other at times and is a real mess.

The scene changes, Link is holding the dying swordsman in his arms. The swordsman tells you everything.

The screen turns black…

It then opens up with an aerial view of a towns cemetery. At the cemetery you only see a few graves and a family mourning the loss of their young son. The screen goes black and the cemetery is reappears, this time their are several families mourning lost ones and you see plenty of new graves. The screen darkens once more and opens up to a young swordsman sparring with his master.

A conversation begins revealing that the master has come down with the illness that has been plaguing the remote village in a neighboring country of Hyrule. The young swordsman refuses to accept it. Then the screen once again goes black and opens up to a room full of people, the Master is in bed, the young swordsman is kneeling by the bed. A conversation begins and at the end the master is pronounced dead.

The setting changes and you see the swordsman in a library, stacks of books spread out all across a table. He then comes across something and gets up and gathers his things.

During the commentary by the swordsman(explaining everything) it had been rumored that Hyrule’s temples contain ingredients to a potion that could cure any illness. The way to mix the ingredients is inscribed in various places around Hyrule in forms of riddles and puzzles. This was to prevent the ingredients to fall in the wrong hands. If such a thing were to happen they could create the Chaos Blade. This way only those who are worthy can obtain all ingredients(about 12 in total)

Sidenote: This is only thrown in for two reasons. 1 is that I just love when this happens in stories/movies. Fight Club was amazing at this along with the Saw Movies. Its the stuff that seems to point in one direction… but reveals something different. The second reason is that I think this would be fun for you who love to theorize. I think Zelda should have more stuff like this just catering to this aspect of the fan base. Not always useful towards the actual story, but something to dwell on instead of the infamous timeline!

Once hearing this Zelda tells her guards to back down. She falls back and lands in her chair.

Through out the game you have reported back to Zelda. Telling her everything, but she only becomes more convinced that the swordsman is nothing but trouble.

The game’s last cutscene would show Link entering a small village. By now the village is reduced down to almost nothing.

You talk to the villages leader and offer ‘The Tears of Nayru’(the item the swordsman was trying to create, while you and Zelda are to believe he was trying to make the Blade of Chaos)

Then it simply ends. Now I know most of you would dislike what I am about to reveal, but you will not be able to play and see how things have changed in the village. Whether it worked or not. You do not learn much about the after math.

Basicly the villain is not a villain. He is simply a good man trying to save his dying village when all else seems hopeless.

Although I will let you guys know the aftermath. The cure works and the village is once again thriving. A statue is crafted in honor of the swordsman and in Hyrule he becomes a legend. But if this were to be an actual game you would not get to know this.

This is just the general games story. I doubt I would ever come up with the sidequests or even the general items.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos

This is a really good storyline! I especially like the idea that Link isn't the only person who recognizes that there are cool items to be had by going into the dungeons. I've always thought it would be awesome to have an encounter inside a dungeon (with someone who wasn't a villain).

One thing I wonder about, is if the 'wrong' combination of these items yields such a dangerous sword, wouldn't it be cool if some of the classic villains were constantly watching his progress to see if he gets it wrong? That would be an effective way to convince Link that the traveler was a bad guy, if when he tried to follow him Ganondorf or Vaati or someone tried to run him off so that he couldn't interrupt what might make the Chaos Blade, unbeknownst to the swordsman (who may not even know who these villains are). This is just my contribution; I think it would make for a more satisfying ending if instead of the quest just ending there's a more dark-themed fight as the real evil tries to fight for the ruin of Hyrule instead of it being saved.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos

Hey, I liked it. It was very interesting, and a game I would definitely buy. I want to see more real-world concepts thrown into the game (not realistic physics, but something more based on the human nature). Things like domestic violence, discrimination, crime, redemption, honor, dignity, betrayal... All those good (and bad) things.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos

I liked the idea of having an actual villain trying to prevent Link from stopping the swordsman(who i have yet to name lol) Who is obilvious to the villain.

I would prefer if the villain was someone new or someone less popular. I would also prefer if it did not actually alter the ending.

As for the real world concepts in the game. I agree. This I suppose goes along with it, the desperation of some people and what they are willing to go through. When done wrong they are often viewed as some kind of criminal when in reality they are not.

I think the Zelda series would benifit if they added different realworld themes within the games. Would make the world of Hyrule all the more real.

Of course they should not put such things in all the games. These games would be like WW and PH and the more... well kiddish games(not saying they were bad, they were really fun! but easily targeted towards younger gamers)

Would like to see descrimination in the game. Maybe because Link is from a certain part of Hyrule he is viewed much different. While Link is trying to save Hyrule the citizens and maybe even Zelda look down on and not respected.

Might beable to teach the idea that everyone is equal no matter where they come from.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Blade of Chaos

Very nice! Sure it could use a few things but overall it was great, I love the fact that its a dramatic story for Link in that he ends up killing a good man who was trying to do good, to see that kind of emotion would be awsome. very good work, I would definitly buy it! Now why the hell can't Nintendo come up with ideas like this instead of the same cliche stuff they keep dishing out. aside from MM.

It has a lot of gaps but it's generaly a pretty good story line. Although I can't help but think I've played the beginning before...

Tride and True to the Zelda formula but dramatic. I thought it was pretty good.

Well I just wanted the general story idea. I could have gone into more detail about the actuall ingrediants and such.

As for the begining, I had TP graphics in mind as I was writing this. Originally Link was only sparring with his master because originally the cutscene with the youngswordsman was at the very begining. I was going to try and get the player to notice similarities between Link and the swordsman.

but I suppose I had Link and Rusl in mind also. The kids of course are just like in TP. Although the village idea came from OoT.

So the begining is anything but original. I am glad to learn that you enjoyed the story idea.
