Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair
Hello everybody! Because I was somewhat bored, I decided to create a Zelda story/game, I hope you like it:
The Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair Introduction: Not too long ago, in the land of Hyrule, an ancient demon representing the evil in man's heart released itself from the bindings the Golden Goddesses had put on him. It's release was the single most terrible event to ever befall on Hyrule: the lands became cursed with the howls of foul creatures, mountains destroyed with but a single swipe of this beast, and sorrow and despair filling the hearts of all but a few, thus bringing with it the Age of Despair. However, a Hero stood up against this being: being blessed by the eight Sages of Empathy, holy incarnations of the purest emotions, and holding the Staff of Empathy and a mighty sword, he was able to strike down the creature before it was able to attain it's full, probably godlike power. After it's defeat, the creature was bound into the Holy Ground of Hyrule by the the power of the Hero and the Sages. For a while, all appeared to go well in Hyrule... Some years later, the Royal family of Hyrule was blessed by the Goddesses: they were granted a daughter, whom they named Zelda. Her life was not without trouble: three years ago, after her mother and her father's advisor died, the King didn't treat her as kindly as he did before...he became bitter and neglected her and the country of Hyrule, and thus the Second Age of Despair began. The People had no one to turn to, not even the legendary Hero of Empathy tried to help the people. This, however, isn't the tale of that legendary hero, this is the tale of a young mercenary named Link, who is about to embark on a journey that will change Hyrule... *Creator's note: yeah, Link is a freaking mercenary in this game/story...why? Because the fairy boy, farmer, islander and normal kid were already taken. You'll probably see many more of these notes, as I would like to explain everything to your guys. These are the mercenaries that are currently with Link: -The Boss: quite obviously, he's the boss. Not much is know about his past, nor will you ever know. He is a wise and very competent leader, and is like a father to Link and the others. He fights using a two-handed-sword. -Link: our here in this tale, he was found as an orphan by the Boss, and has been raised by him ever since. He is fairly competent in using a sword, and appears to be quite the ladies, although he seems rather dense. -Eria: the female friend whose name end with "-ria/-lia" in this tale (like Saria and Ilia), she has mediumlong grey hair and blue eyes. She really likes Link, and can use somewhat advanced wind magic. She appears to be as old as Link is. -Siler: the best archer in all of Hyrule, and Link's selfproclaimed older brother. He likes to nag about Link's flaws, but deep down, he really cares for him. -Hawk: your average almost-silent strong guy. He and Siler are best friends, and he also considers himself to be Link's older brother. His greatest strenght is...his great strenght! (yeah, you're gonna hear a lot of lame jokes in these notes) The Mercenaries recide in a fort, which is a little bit east of the center of Hyrule. They help people with all kinds of stuff, and are even prepared to steal from the rich and give to the poor in this Age. I've imagined this game to use cell-shaded graphics, and either be on the DS or the Wii, perhaps even with the 3D camera system on the DS. That almost concludes this note, now I only need to tell you the story is divided into multiple chapters, one for each major dungeon and one for the beginning and the end. Prologue, part 1: Link's Awakening Strangely, this time we begin with Link already being awake. it is dusk, and Link's refining his skills with the sword on some wooden dummies, while Eria is sitting on the ground to his right while watching him. After the camera has traveled through the fort, it goes back to Link and Eria. Eria rehearses what Link knows of using a sword, to serve as this game's trainer. Before telling you how to do each attack, she show how she would do it using her wind magic. After finising, Link and Eria walk back to the main house in the small fortress while smiling to each other, before entering it the door already opens, and a mysterious old man stands in front of them: Old Man: "My, my...you weren't eavesdropping on us, now were you?" He turns around to the Boss and Siler, who are sitting at a wooden table in the middle of the room, you can see Hawk sleepin in a corner in the back. Old Man: "I expect that you execute this job with utmost caution, failure isn't tolerated...or rather can't be tolerated." The Boss: "I understand, but it takes more than a few simple soldiers to defeat my men and me...I give you my word." The Old Man turns his back to the boss and notices that Link and Eria have stepped aside. Old Man: "We will see...we will see..." He walks away, perhaps while mumbling to himself. Link sees an guy with a weapon walking toward the man, after which they away together. Siler: "What an arrogant prick!" Boss: "Now, now, be a little more respectful to our newest client!" Siler: "But Boss, how does that senile fool expect us to do something that big? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" Boss: "Sigh...what am I to with with you Siler? Anyway, I have to tell you guys about our latest job... Eria, would you wake Hawk for me?" Eria is seen waking Hawk, and they go to stand next to the table. Boss: "Well then, tomorrows mission will be the hardest challenge you have ever faced: We are to take the King's daughter and deliver her to our client, after which we are to bring her back...perhaps for some kind of ransom...I'm sure some of our friends would appreciate some money to buy some food." Link and Eria look kinda shocked, and Hawk, thinking he's still dreaming, doesn't look really sursprised. Siler: "See, I told you it was impossible!" Boss: " I trust you guys being able to complete this mission, our future depends on this job. Nothing is impossible as long as you give it your best shot." Siler's face turns somewhat like this: -_- Siler: "That may be, but their are limits to our skills...and our luck." Eria: "But the Boss says we do it! And I trust him!" Siler: "Naïve brat..." Siler walks away, Hawk appears to be completely awake now. Siler: "Boss, if you have faith in our abilities, I believe we are able to do it!" Boss: "Atleast someone agrees with me...now, I want all of you to be in perfect shape for tomorrow afternoon, so let's go to sleep." Link, Eria and Hawk walk towards the stairs. Boss: "Goodnight guys!" Eria and Hawk say also tell him goodnight, and Link waves goodbye at the Boss. The trio walks up the stairs, the screen blacks out and you are given the option to save. The next day, Link awakens early in the morning, hearing some strange sounds outside, he decides to dress himself and right before leaving their room, Eria wakes up and notices him... Eria: "Link...is that you? Are you already going outside? Wait for me!" Link decides not to wait, because he wants to investigate the strange sounds outside. Ouside, he see that all three wooden dummies are completely covered with arrows. Link has a "Huh?" moment, before noticing Siler sitting on the ground. Siler tells him that he hasn't slept, and still thinks the mission is madness. Eria walks outside, and becomes mad for moment at Link for not waiting for her, she expresses some concern about Siler's health. Now, Link has to complete a few assignments his fellow mercenaries give to him to learn all the controls. Well, that was the first part of the Prologue, I hope you liked it. The next part will be more Zelda-like, except the fact that you're attempting to kidnap Zelda yourself now. Next part: Prologue, part 2: Princess of Destiny

I'm going to sleep now, some random notes: The title is still tentative, I just didn't simply wanted to use the Special Item as the title, (the Staff of Empathy), there will be eight main dungeons, because some of the best in the series had that amount. The end of the nect part, which will come tomorrow, will also contain a little explanation of how Hyrule currently looks, what has happened and who lives where. Oh, Ganondorf won't be in it in any way, shape or form...well, prehaps he will...<_<

Re: Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair
Old joke is old.
I agree on it, though, perhaps I should use another title. Quote:
I will probably continue this evening...

Re: Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair
I really doubt it would be a good idea to stick this thread here. It should go to New names and Storylines, in Future Zelda.
Still, it's a real good storyline. Maybe we could make this where you add on to the storyline. Where anyone could add a weapon, or something.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair
Thanks for all the positive replies, I am not sure whether to continue this, though: I have another idea for a Zelda and a standalone fantasy story I want to work on.

Re: Legend of Zelda: Age of Despair
I'll try to summarize what I had in mind in multiple post:
-Merc's go to Hyrule Castle, Link fights Zelda (wielding the Staff of Empathy). Huge earthquake, suddenly dark tentacle-ish roots come from the ground in the courtyard, Boss sacrifices himself to protect Link and Zelda. They escape, Zelda gives Link the staff, which allows you to: -Change chaotic weather types into normal ones (like from story to clear) and vice versa -Allows you to activate emotions you've gained within all characters, some neccesary to complete sidequests. -Something else Geology: Death Mountain has exploded, leaving only a caldera on the left side of the mountain, with a Goron/Zora village that has a lake and Goron houses on the walls, andthe right side of the mountain barely manages not to crumble: this area is covered in snow and has some Yook and Anouki living there. Chapter 1: Race: Deku Theme: Forest-ish Temple: Puppet Palace (palace crumbled by plants) Miniboss: Puppet Mothula (ridden by the Puppet Kid, a Skull Kid) Boss: Puppet Gohma (more like its OoS version, also ridden by PK) Sage: Marian (Deku) Emotion: Happiness Item: Boomerang Chapter 2: Race: Goron Theme: Lava-ish (not that much) Temple: Infernal Dome Miniboss: No freaking idea Boss: Same Sage: Darkana Emotion: Pride Item: Spinner Chapter 3: Race: Gerudo Theme: Desert/Spirit Temple: Gerudo Fortress Miniboss: Terente (luitenant Gerudo) Boss 1: Reijawan (Spirit form of a Sage of Empathy) Boss 2: Reijadon (Gerudo King, uses a scythe) Sage: Reijadon Emotion: Compassion Helper: Nuhpon (Gerudo Prince) Item: Chainclaw
