Zelda Western

Okay picture this, a bask, orange desert and the occational cactai sprouting, all different shapes and sizes.
The desert is empty when you suddenly hear the mighty galloping of hooves.
A large dark brown horse with a skull white mane runs through the desert, smoke trailing behind it.
On top of the horse is a figure wearing a dark green poncho, with a sword on his back, he takes out what appears to be a new adaption of the bow and arrow, a device that launches bombs at a greater speed than any thing seen before.
He alligns it, aims, and fires, immediately the demons behind him burst into flame.

Okay, my idea behind this is that Zelda should move on ever so slightly from the medieval theme and introduce new gadgets.
My inspiration for this idea was the great shootout in Twilight princess!
Of course if there was to be a western it wouldn't all be blank desserts, there would be towns! And of course that ever so famous portal that link goes through leading him back to old hyrule one he discovers that time is splitting apart.

So tell me, what are your thoughts?

Re: Zelda Western

I don't think the Zelda series will ever lose its medieval theme. Its a game meant to be medieval, not western.

Re: Zelda Western

Definetly no to westerns. I thought the hidden village in TP (which mimicked a western setting) was the lamest part of the game.

Ya, I agree, and i hope that this will be true, I like the medieval. How would there be a princess if it was Western? I don't think cowboys have a monarchy...

Re: Zelda Western

The way I see it...
Its just using the zelda storyline in another timeframe...

Expand on it to make it more interesting

Also, remember the fact the game will feel more FPS

Re: Zelda Western

It could most definately work, if it's worked out well enough...

Nintendo will never go to far from the original formula, though. Consider Majora's Mask, The Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass as different as it will ever get.

Re: Zelda Western

You guyz seem to always shutdown ideas... which isn't necessarilly a bad thing...
But your reasons don't always seem legitamate...
"Zelda isn't meant to be a western"
How do you know it wouldn't be better?
-And since you know, this explaination would be more desirable to hear then just
"No, because Romeo is a northern italian and Juliet is a southern"

I'd rather hear something like "No because Juliet loves another man"

Re: Zelda Western

Zelda isn't supposed to have technology, Links Awakining had a phone, Wind Waker had a GBA, Majora's Mask had a massive clock, Twilight Princess had Canons, the entire series has bombs. Does that mean that the game is worse? No, there was still the Zelda feel. Wind Waker was out on Sea, Majora's Mask and Links Awakening were in some messed up world, the Oracle games had Subrosia and guess what? They were all still great.

Honestly, anything can turn out great if it's done properly and I'm sure if Nintendo really wanted to they could get a western setting to work out. Look at Final Fantasy, that game has had a billion different face but it always manages to keep the feel of the game and that's what's important.

The only thing that that's stopping me from supporting the western idea 100% is the environments. I really like having a lot of variety in the environments I see, I want to see snow, wastelands, swamps, lakes, villages, cities, as much as they can possibly throw in there. Having a western setting would mean that most of it would be pretty much limited to barren wastelands and a bunch of villages. If Nintendo call keep the Zelda feel, get a western theme and have environments I'm sure it would turn out great.

It wouldn't be. It could however, pass of as different, which sounds acceptable.

However, in the talk of keeping the feel of Zelda, a western has it's own feel. As a fan of both Zelda and westerns, I'd have to say, it would have to be done in a very specific way to appease me both ways.

With that in mind, I'd like to point out one thing. The title of Zelda, and the Triforce, and a kid in a green outfit are not what make Zelda great. If they were to make a Zelda western, I'd much rather it be a western with a Zelda feel and gameplay than a western labeled Zelda. Hell, make it good and maybe it'll be it's own franchise for me to buy into.

For the record, I hated that LA had the phone, and the gba in tWW..... *cringes*. Still loved the games, but those seemed too corny. But mentioning that TP has canons doesn't make it not medieval, they had canons in the middle ages. And in MM, the clocks weren't running on electricity, it seemed like it was run from under the tower via a waterwheel. Again, not technologically advanced. Link has always had a sword and bow and arrows (amongst other stuff but those are the main). If they start making games into westerns, he'd have a pistol. Then whats to stop them from giving him a tank? Then how about Link manipulated gene therapy to clone himself to fight ganondorf 2 on 1? Its that one leads to the other. Some things aren't meant to be changed.

Re: Zelda Western

i like the western idea however i don't think it would be good for the entire game to be western. what WOULD be cool is just have a section of the game with a western theme. in every game you have your swamps, desert, forests and ice locations that kind of serve as chapters. you spend some time in this enviorment, complete a temple then leave. that's what you could do for the western theme. just have like the small western part in TP (my favorite part of the game) but have that extend to an entire "chapter with it's own decently sized location and dungeon.
