Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

good work. keep it up.
you should make a more in-depth version and post it as a fan fic.
(unless your like me and all your stories get boring to write after two-three chapters.)
EDIT: i agree with linkdude.

In the roughly 200 odd years, there are merely a few scraps and pieces of the story. Therefore, I don't want to introduce Link as a Hero - that throws the plot somewha. I am going to change that though. Perhaps a daring deed of derring do during the downfall of Castle Town? (try saying that ten times fast)

Deku Tree plot is because I want it to feel quintessential Zelda for the first half or so of the game, and then alien, shocking and dark for the second half. A blend of OoT gameplay followed by MM gameplay, if you wish. I may change that, but I quite like it a it is. Don't worry, the Zora dungeon does not involve entering Jabu-Jabu, however, it does explain the Rito/Zora/Zola schematics, as an interesting side note.

Sidequests: ah, another NPC fan like me. MM was my favourite Zelda for precisely this reason. Yes, there shall be sidequests galore.

Weapons: yes, a few of the weapons will be redesigned, but I'm not going overboard. Between 5-10 items will be tech'd up, and the rest left as is.

Yes, I'll tie it together eventually, but a thought for you to munch on: why would a race become so advanced technologically, in a world where magic makes everything easy? Possibly because their magic was banished. But why and how was their magic banished, huh?
I really like your story so far and I'm waiting for the next part.

I also agree with way you try to make your "game", as it is similiar to mine: you want to maintain the classic Zelda feel, but are also struggling to introduce new elements into it to make it feel unique compared to the rest of the series.

But try not too make every boss in the game a clockwork one, as that will get old eventually.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

Bosses so far are:

Sand Dancer
Sandworm

Clockwork Beetle
Clockwork Gohma

Clockwork Senitel
Volvagia.

Half of the bosses so far are clockwork, which is roughly the mark I'm aiming for. Do you think half clockwork is about right?

Sounds more like a Handheld Zelda. Which is good.

That would be about right, given the fact that it is a major theme in your story...

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

Nope, they just refer to themselves in the masculine. There is a point in OoT where one (male) Goron refers to another Goron as both "she" and "brother". So there are females, they are just very much masculinated.

Woah...Girly Gorons...Kinda Creepy...

But aside from that...I think your game is AWESOME. The originality is important. Why I didn't like the Oracles was because there was WAY to much repitition from OoT...The Characters...The Places...

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

I like it alot so far; it's sort of mysterious. Maybe add something like a library in some desolate place of the world (to fill in back story), buried for centuries waiting for someone to find it. A form of prophecy, if you will.

Just a thought.

I'm curious as to what this Clockwork Blade is though...

I really don't like the whole reusing Gohma & the Deku Tree though; Death Mountain i'm okay with, but the Deku Tree? It seems a little cliche, which is something you are obviously trying to avoid.

EDIT : Maybe you could link the library to a clockwork contraption somehow? Possibly make it so you have to do an extremely complex puzzle with weights and other doohickeys in order to gain entrance.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

Another feature is the theme. OoT's theme was, of course, time. Hero of Time, Ocarina of Time, Pedestal of Time. TP's theme was Twilight. Twilight Realm, Mirror of Twilight, the bosses are all "twilit". The theme "Clockwork" makes the game that much cooler.

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

I like this game, it has a new feel to it, while still retaining the classic zelda feel, I really want to know what this Clockwork blade is though (even though I have a rough idea that the large clockwork things you get at the end of the dungeons are going to be forged into said blade)

Re: Legend of Zelda: The Clockwork Blade

What is the 'gimmick' of the game? You know, like season-changing, the Wind Waker, and Time Travelling? What unique gameplay feature does this game bring? Personally I thought it would be nice if the the 'Clockwork Blade' could speed and slow down the activity of clockwork cycles at will.

guess we'll have to wait for said gimmick to make itself known
