Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

Okay, so Twilight Princess was a bit open ended, Link leaves Ordon (and possibly Hyrule) for unknown reasons, presumably because he's outgrown his old life and is now a battle hungry swordsman.

Now personally I believe it would be a terrible waste for the Zelda team to have built that incredible world, engine and art style and not expand it further, similar to how Ocarina of Time's universe was expanded with Majora's mask. And I can totally see TP Link traveling to other kingdoms and helping them out. Perhaps in a format different to the whole, Ganondorf abducts princess, Link finds half a dozen items, then saves Zelda formula.

Personally I'm kinda hoping that's what Miyamoto's "last Zelda of it's kind" quote was about, although I'm sure he was probably talking about control systems.

However I would also be excited to see a Zelda game that totally breaks the current timeline's mold, which seems to have made the series a bit restricted in some ways. So keep the key plot characters/elements of the game, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Hyrule and the Triforce, and build from there. Though I'm sure timeline theorists would probably really hate that!

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

yes, though i belive that there should be at least one other game that will come, though i want it to suck! now not to be mean or anything but if you look at the games before oot the games were low ranked, then came out with a new storyboard and look! and ever since SMG {super mario galaxy} takin' out oot, tp should wait a little, but be very epic {though all zeldas are epic!}

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

I would love to see a sequel for TP. As TP is so much like OoT, why don't make a Zelda where Link goes to Termina directly after the events of TP? That would be awesome! And maybe another game in that universe, but not a direct sequel.

But in the end I don't care what the next Zelda looks like, or what the story will be. I just want it to be genius as always

@zeldahis101: it's under OoT again. just by a few 0.1%'s, but OoT has the highest average again.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

Just had an idea, as an example of one way to shake up the existing 'Zelda format.' How about a pre-adventure adventure, similar to those short 5 minute films before Pixar's motion pictures.

EG: On the way to Link's next destination where his next big quest begins, he shelters at a farmhouse run by a Malon type character. She then for whatever reason sends you to beat 3 mini-temples hidden out in the woods and beat a mini-final boss. All of this would be totally different in story and mechanic to the real quest.

You could even have a short credit sequence to this that leads into the second part of the adventure.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

Its impossible for Nintendo to release a TP sequel, why, well...

When the Nintendo Wii was launched, Nintendo began working on a Zelda title. Well, then they launched TP, but that wasn't the Zelda title they were developing at the begining, no. How can there be a sequel to TP if the game was released in the middle of the new Zelda title development? Impossible.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

^ Good point, but im sure if they wanted they could change the game they already had in devlopment and make it a sequel of TP.. if they wanted but its not impossible.

Anyway i wouldn't mind a TP sequel it would be ok i guess. Although i would prefer the next Zelda game to be celshaded and have a totally different plot, a TP sequel would be alright.

TP was released in 2006 and the Wii in 2006, why would they restart hard work and many endurance to change the story of a game?

I dont think it would be that difficult to change the plot of the game if they wanted. If i remember cleary Nintendo stated that they had started making a Zelda game for the Wii a short time before TP was released. So by that time I am pretty sure they would already finished with the plot of TP and if they wanted they could start making a sequel of TP for the next game.

Development hadn't started on Zelda Wii until TP had finished. Do you have any idea how aggrivating that would be for the Dev team if they were working on three Zelda games at once (TP, PH, ZWii)? I'm pretty certain they was just drafting ideas at that time.

As for a TP sequel, it could be good if they pull a Majora's Mask - a game that is deeper, cleverer and more detailed than it's predecessor, but has a brand-new spin on things. I'd prefer a brand-new Zelda though.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

Maybe ZWii IS a Twilight Princess sequal, and they had it all planed out beforehand.

And as far as changing the plot goes, remember when TP was announced? It was announced as a sequal to Windwaker. Well, that plan didn't get very far, did it- somthing changed along the way.

But I highly doubt that ZWii and TP were in development at the same time anyway.

As much as I like TP, I think Nintendo should focus on new things, not changing the formula but changing some minor things and tweeking everything.

That my friend is the dumbest reason why its impossible.

Just because one game is in development doesnt mean the story has not finished. I doubt Nintendo was doing something like a freewrite. Where they build the game as the story is written.

My guess is that the general story had been written before development. I am sure a few things changed from the original script to the final draft.

If the general story was completed before the development of the game, then it is perfectly possible for a seqeul.

I have had similar experience... sorta.

While writing a story I figured out how I was going to end it. I also came up with a sequel of sorts, that takes place a year or so after the events.

its not impossible at all.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

Im not really that bothered about a sequel or not. Think about how Majora's Mask built on Ocarina Of Time. It was totally unexpected and removed from the main setting. I am sure that Nintendo, if they are to create a sequel to Twilight Princess, wouldnt rehash any major storyline elements - and because of that, I feel I can rest easy either way.

I think if there's to be a next one it should take place in a far off land that might be invadeing it, I mean the orginal plot is good but I think that links awakening was kinda better just because you were in a new place saveing it or destroying it just was cool!

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

I hate TP's characters, including its incarnation of Link. Still, I would be fine with a sequel, since it would force Nintendo to come up with some idea other than the typical become-legendary-hero-and-save-Zelda-and-Hyrule-from-Ganon crap. New land, new story, new villain? Yes, please.

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

I, for one, don't believe in sequels. Unless the story isn't finished and it requires more time and space, it's just a growth on a previously done piece of art. Don't get me wrong, Majora's mask was fun and all but it was just more of the same with some twists. I love TP's art style and would enjoy it to continue, but I would love a new story, new Hyrule, and new characters....of course I said that right before they announced wind waker too

Wow, I'm so surprised to see so many voted "Yes".

Re: Who's hoping for a Twilight Princess sequel?

I completely expect a sequel, since every Link goes on two adventures. There's the first adventure, then the same Link goes on another one. With the exception of the FS games, though. There's a large timespan between TMC and FS, and I don't think FS Link and FSA Link are the same.

The sequel to TP may be the last game in the OoT arc, though. Then they may move on to a different arc of games.
