Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

What would you rather have Zelda become?

I'd like to also bring some facts to for attention
1) Realistic doesn't mean no magic
-Telekinesis
-Portals (Like The Gun from portal)
-Use Chemicals on arrows to make them fire

2) Realistic Means less Essences
-Light vs Dark (Except in the Case of Fire)

3) Don't give me that "Don't mess with a good formula" excuse
-You don't know whether or not it would be a good thing until you imagine it/visualize it/etc

I just say leave it the way it is. I couldn't think of Link using guns or telekenesis. Thats more space-crack

I dont really get it.
Realistic doesnt mean no magic? Realistic means less essences?

Essences?

I'd rather just have Zelda build and evolve on what its done in the past, put simply

Re: Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

I think there should be more magic in Zelda. Lots more.

In threads that debate whether there should have been a magic metre in Twilight Princess, I say that it didn't need it. Not because I don't want magic, but a magic metre would have been useless in that game.

Now I don't want Link to turn into some spellcaster or anything, but he could have a couple spells (Like Din's fire, Nayru's Love or Farore's Wind) or there could be a major supporting character who is very talented in the art.

Re: Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

I would prefer Zelda the way it is.

It is already a fantastic game and I don't think that there should be any 'massive' changes within the game, apart from graphics, storylines, sounds etc.

Re: Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

Magic is never used flippantly in Zelda. Wherever I have seen it used, it has either been for unexplained gameplay purposes, or for something of direct interest to the player, wether it be in a cutscene or performed by the player themselves. A future Zelda with a slightly more magical theme wouldnt bother me, in fact it would make a lot of sense - Hylians have been described as creatures adept at magic. Its certainly a viable possibility, although it could eliminate some of the 'shock effect' when some sort of magical effect is used. We dont want over-exposure, do we?

I love cel-shading, but they really should pick whatever style is appropriate.

Re: Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

i liked the amount used in ocarina of time,
although most of it wasn't really used.
like, i'm still not entirely sure what the animations are
for the farore and nayru spells.
i know one teleports?.. and one is like a crystal protection thing
i don't think i ever used those, ever.
i only used dins fire, only useful one really.
so yeah, the amount of magic and whatever in OOT
but, make it more useful. all i have to say

Re: Magic: More Fantasy or More Realistic?

I voted for Oot, I don't like it too fake or too realistic but I think all the games mentioned in the poll are great.
