Wii Posibilities

Now, we all know that the Wii has nigh limitless gameplay options, but what do you think this means for Zelda?

Personally I'd like to see a system where blocking can be done either with a shield, or a 2 handed sword by postition of wiimote.
-Hold wiimote at the top right/left pointing down, block high attacks
-Hold it more centered and you block mid range attacks
-No blocking lower attacks, just kill those enemies

I'd also like to see the ability to aim your shield on horseback to stop arrows.

Another idea I'd like to see is the grappling hook. Actually throwing the thing would be fun.

Just the different actions in general would be a lot of fun.

So, what are your opinions on new gameplay innovations?

Re: Wii Posibilities

Well there is a wireless nunchuk now, or there will be, so having the shield control in one hand and the sword control in the other, may actually come into play.

Having one hand to do one thing and the other hand to do the other can create a whole new system of items, which probably is going to happen anyway.

Could you imagine using the bow and arrow system like that? It could have various distance and power ranges, depending on how far apart the nunchuk is from the wiimote, etc. That would be pretty cool.

Re: Wii Posibilities

Well, Miyamoto did say that TP would be the last Zelda of it's kind.

Re: Wii Posibilities

To use the grappling hook you swing the Wiimote around your wrist by releasing and using the wrist strap to spin it, don't do it to strongly or you might break the wrist strap, to throw it push your arm towards the screen and your wiimote will get sent flying at the TV, you must throw it with the pointer facing to the front, because thats how it will be said if you threw it succefully to the place you wanted to throw it.

Re: Wii Posibilities

I just like the controls how they are now. But that's just me. If they did have things like point to the top of the sensor bar to block high attacks there would be questions like: would the sensor bar be able to pick up the signal? What is a high attack?

And if they did add all that stuff to Zelda it would make it feel more like a fighting game instead of a Zelda game. With all those things like point the Wiimote to the top of the sensor bar, swing the nunchuk to make the ball n' chain swing, etc. it would feel like combos in a fighting game and I don't think a lot of us would want to remember stuff we are too lazy to remember.

Re: Wii Posibilities

The next Wii Zelda will have better controls, since the last ones were just tacked on last minute. But it all depends on what they mean by "better controls."

I, as well as several others on ZU, would like to see one-to-one sword control. It would make the game more of a Wii game, and not a game with motions just thrown in there. That leads to the problem of whether or not we need to learn how to actually sword fight. I personally don't see that happening, but it is possible nonetheless. It might be cool, but it could take awhile. Either way, I hope that we can get one-to-one sword control, and possibly shield control with the nunchuck.

Better conrols would be more precise. Swing left sword goes left. Swing right sword goes right. Vertical is registered, stuff like that.

1:1 could be good, but I fear that many would discover how terrible they really are with a sword.

1:1 Shield would be good, but I think the sword needs a bit less freedom.

Re: Wii Posibilities

I think a WW style game with graphics more towards the TP side would be awesome. You know, using the more free felling you get from animation, and jumpiness, but the game be more interactive. I also think it would be a major improvement to be able to move while you're shooting your bow.
