Paladin of Hyrule

Ok, so I was thinking... (it kinda hurt)...

j/k... anyway, I was thinking- What if there was a game where Link is NOT some simple country bumpkin/orphan--- what if there is a game or series of games where Link is Knighted and becomes a magical holy paladin of Hyrule (like a medeival superman)

Then in another later game, the spirit of paladin Link guides the new link?

This basically does away with the whole "unlikely hero" or "diamond in the rough" scenario of pasts Zeldas. Is that truly important part of the story?

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

Actually, this senario has happened before. He hasn't always started out living a normal lfe. In MM, link starts out with his entire OOT adventure under his belt. The same with LA link with Alttp and AOL and LOZ.

Still, it would be cool if he started out as a royal bodyguard or a a hylian knight instead of a goat herder or islander.

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

I think Link as a Paladin would be awesome! Especially If he had cool armor and weapons. That would be the coolest zelda game I would have ever played. Link deserves some magic too not just hitting people with sticks...I LIKE IT=D

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

we all know Link is a bad @ss, but it would be cool to have a game where he started off as a young squire, someone already in service of the royal family, and already a pretty good bad-@ss, and then you save hyrule...

basically a game where link doesn't start off as the typical poor simple orphan.
The closest they came to this was in MC, where Link started off as a blacksmith nephew and already a friend of Zelda.

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

yeh, would be nice if Link was something other than the usual, orphan poor kid destined fro greatness, but Paladin, holy warrior of Light, destroyer of Evil, protector of the helpless and doer of good deeds, Paladin?, maybe a squire or royal guard, Paladin seems a tad out of place.

but it would be a nice change

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

Maybe not a paladin, but perhaps a knight (really a squire at his age) or perhaps on guard duty or something, just not a country bumpkin again. It could add a whole new experience. Not to mention a more extensive items system. (nobility has its perks)

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

yeh, bring it on!!

would be kinda cool to see how the NPCs refer to Link if he is in training to become a paladin, they wont be so "hey kid..." all the time. but i think it would have to be the more mature adult OOT/TP esque type Link, i dont really see it happening for the younger young OOT/MM/TMC/PH/TWW esque link. hes seems too young to be a squire, this sort of link seems like a Paige (or stable boy), but thats just me.

Page 6 or 7 to 13
Squire 14 to time of being knighted
Knight after squire to death

So yeah, seing Link start off as a squire and have some sort of progression, that would make for an interesting game. Perhaps at the end he could obtain the rank of a Hylian Knight...

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

Im just more of a fan of the older link. closer to my age, closer identification with the character, also i RP Paladins alot in DND, your usually fairly old in DND.

Sir Link. or rather Sir {insert character name here}. yeh, that would be epic! i think you'd deserve it after everything you went through in said game, slaying huge demons, rescuing damsel/s and pretty much saving the world from certain doom, or whatever the story entails.

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

I like this idea. If you DO start out as older Link, (16-17) Then you would be a squire. I would like a whole mini quest dedicated to making your rank go higher. The mini quest would be a lot longer than all the "lesser" Mini quests If he was 10-13, He would be a Piage and would have to get respect from people by doing good deeds and stuff like that

Hey people... Paige is a girl's name. Page is a medieval military ranking of a knight in training from ages 6 to 13.

Anyways, I would like to see something like that where you earn a rank...

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

at the rate that nintendo is spewing out weak zelda spin offs i would not be surprised if they incorporated a role playing element into the series , zelda has so far released two weak spin offs , but that's all it takes , i.e. mario party 1-8 ,mario golf , mario tennis , what next "mario sets the VCR" or maybe "mario does the weekly shopping" and then fopr the adults :mario has a wank". it only takes one spin off to crash a series *cough*crash bandicoot*cough*.

2 released Zelda spin offs?

I'm not sure, but I thought that the first Zelda spin off was LCT and that's not even out yet.

Re: Paladin of Hyrule

do the CD-I count as spin offs or not?

anyway back on topic, yeh earning titles or ranks, but not like in fable were all you had to do was fork over a couple of thousand gp for them.

I want to slay a dragon!! or save a village from rampaging moblins.

Hahaha tesla that's true, but I still don't believe Zelda's sold out... Tingle RPG is a spinoff, yeah, but it's not weak - as far as I know you haven't played it so you can't really say what it's like until you do... in fact it's pretty challenging to a degree. And funny, too. As for the *upcoming* crossbow training game, that looks fun! You might not like the Wii and all, but you can't say a game is weak just because it's on a console you don't like! This is really just a minigame which takes place after TP and uses the zapper. It's like a tutorial in Zelda clothing I guess. 2 games which feature Zelda characters and aren't the 'proper' style games aren't any indication that the series is selling out.

I know it only takes 1 spin off to do it and all that, but this is Zelda, not Mario or Crash Bandicoot. The spinoffs for that game happened while the games were still young and experimenting and sort of ballooned. Zelda has had ages to figure out what players liek and don't like, and I'm confident that they wouldn't start releaseing these sorts of games unless they were absolutely sure that they would be well received. That's what I think anyway!

Anyway, onto the topic. That sounds awesome! I'd love to have more of a role-playing Zelda which offered a bit more choice and a deeper story than previous Zeldas. Having a more privelaged, well known (although not necessarily) Link rise through the ranks of the Knights of Hyrule until he became a respected Knight would be great fun!

He wasn't an orphan in TWW. He had a family.

Anyway, I like the idea, especially the squire idea that Margar came up with. Who knows, if pulled off right, "Paladin of Hyrule" could become the subtitle.

i think it would be good if link, a squire, was given guard duty for the day, and moblins attacked the area that day. i think it would be a good start to a zelda game

Agreed, a new start to the series, and perhaps a new starter outfit... Later to be switched out with a green tunic...

That would be cool, with lots of deeds to do like in MM. Except, if Link is a paladin, there won't be anytime to much around doing little deeds for peasants.. will there?

If he is to be a paladin, there needs to be war and serious things going on. But I guess they could still fit in lots of side-quests...
