Nintendo has made references to, before Hyrule was one country, a war fought for the power of the Triforce.
One of the more notable mentions was in the
TP cutscene about the dark magic interlopers, where the light spirit tells link how greed drove the war, and in the end, the interlopers were sentenced to live in the twilight realm.
Well, I wouldn't be surprised to see a game about this war someday, because I'm pretty sure there have been references to it in other zelda games as well (
OoT too if think?) And, after all, the new zelda game that's allegedly been in development for almost 2 yrs now has been said to be something completely new that will surprise all zelda fans.
Here are just some ideas that I think would be cool to be in a zelda game about this war.made several references to a great war that waged long before Hyrule was unified a
Hyrule (or at least what would become Hyrule after the war) is made up of different provinces, like
TP, except each province is a sovereing nation with its own ruler/kingdom.
Maybe Link is a knight in training? Or maybe just a boy from the forest again. Either way, his services are needed by the future king of Hyrule, the king of whatever province Link lives in. The provinces are starting to choose sides, and battle seems imminent.
The main enemy of the game (Ganon? maybe not...) is sending the factions of his province looking for the Triforce, or maybe trying to find a way into the Sacred Realm where it lies.
There should be massive battles against hundreds of foes, but Link has allies: the royal soldiers help you fight, and they have lives of their own. For battles like these, Link is just another soldier, and perhaps has special quests during these battles that make him rise through the ranks and become a legendary hero.
Also, I've always thought that it would be cool to have more civilians and random people out in Hyrule field. I mean, what are the chances that Link can ride all around Hyrule and never run into fellow pedestrians, or even other people on horses (races!). That's what the other zelda games needed more of.
Also, way more sidequests, like MM.
My brain is on hold right now. Any comments? Please add your own thoughts and ideas as to what could be in a game like this.
Edit: more ideas-
the Master Sword hasn't been forged yet, and link needs to find someone to create it so that he can defeat the evil forces
new armor and weapons would be cool too
