I was thinking of this more when I saw how the doctor behaved towards the Zora prince in TP. Some of the townspeople said he neglected treatment due to his race. A lot of the time in the Timeline forum, there is mention of Hylian bloodlines degrading over time.
Would anyone else like a more in-depth examination of sociological issues in the game? Or, to be blunt, a truly mature title of Zelda? It does not have to be just plain racism: it could go into the gray shades encountered in politics, or discuss the ill effects of drugs, or deal with inflation in the economy. Heck, the mere threat of a rebellion against Zelda might be of some interest. Thoughts?

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
I would love it. There's even an ideal event already in Zelda canon- the Interlopers. It would address the race issue, address how magic works in Zelda, and address a threat to the Hylian crown.

Yeah! Conceivably, we could witness the background from which the Kingdom of Hyrule spawned, with some explication of the Oocca to boot! Some edgy Minish action would not be unwanted as well!

If Nintendo ever wants to do a darker game (a little darker than Twilight Princess), that could be it.

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
YES. Heck yes. There should be a 16+ Zelda title, just for once. Ot perhaps twice. I love the games, but can't quite shake off the slight 7+ feel, know what I mean? They could lose that, just for once. That would be cool. I would get it. If I was allowed (I'm 12 lol).

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
Whoa, slow down there, Wyvern. I was not suggesting a more violent game with more boobies: I meant a game that may tell a more complex story, but with the same simple vocabulary. Odd, child-like things are okay in my book: I just want a more compelling experience.
Something akin to the Alice books, with death jokes intact.

that would be great, it would also be cool if the hylians treated the zoras or some other race the way Americans treated Africans in the 60's. But a more compelling game would be nice.

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
Sounds good to me. More mature subject matter would probably help bring a slightly new feel to the game.
Also, bonus points for suggesting a rebellion against Zelda. That would win on so many levels.

The only idea I like as much is the idea of the grown-up ( again ) Hero of Time ( post MM, child timeline ) dealing with Ganondorf ( the events that led to Ganondorf getting sentenced to death ) if they want to make it dark, have Ganondorf kill Link, before falling captive. Maybe even throw in some tragic romance and it would be killer. ( It would explain why the Hero's Shade has one eye, with "unfinished business" ) |

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
Yeah I like it and I think it would of course add that extra layer of interest. For me it's not about making it darker as such but addressing some issues of normal life like growing up, even though he goes through time in OoT, we could see more. However Zelda has always had that kind of young quality to it and I think you need to have to retain a certain amount of that light-hearted spirit that it always had. Going into more complicated storylines and history is a plus though.

Re: Does anyone want a "very special" game of Zelda?
That is a nifty idea... I mean... after this whole TP ghost Hero and the WW flood... people have been going crazy trying to find where each game fits in the timeline... A little explanation and maybe some more information with regard to that (or even some more hints, cause theorizing is sometimes more fun anyway) would be a good change.
As far as the young audience goes, they can still add history and social issues and make it suitable for kids... well... really, TP was pretty mature in some ways for my 7 year old cousin, heh, so maybe they're heading that way already. |
